The Free Range
Scene Two: The Free Range
Roleplay Type: Horses Only

Wild Horse herds roam the wilderness of the Free Range, trying not to be captured or eaten by predators. To the North are the Great Mountains, to the East are the vast Plains and beyond that Desert. To the South is the Jungle, and to the West is the Coastline.

Sora sighed softly, shaking her head. "He ran off, what a coward." She hissed, pinning her ears when she felt somebody nip but going back to a usual expression when she saw it was Ghost.

Duny snorted a fit of laughter at the colt before nodding to sora "how did tracking down brick brain go?" He asked flipping his head his long mane and forlock flying in all directions as he watched widow eye the mare he had never met before

******

Widow extended his neck towards Adonis "seriously those rouge stallions are brutal they'll be at the shit outta you and leave you to be torn apart alive by coyotes" the young stallions blue eyes scanned over sora and Adonis making sure they didn't seem aggressive

******

Ghost noticed the shift as the herd welcomed sora back. His keen blue eye watched over the herd before he trotted down the hill leaning on his hocks to slide down it he took a cantering step as he landed before going back into a trot silently trotting up to the group of horses and nipping Adonis on the rump "if you can't take that " he justed his nose at funny "down in a fight then you better keep your fluffy ass in the heart of the herd" he said before circling to stand by sora lightly nibbling her neck

Kersti lay down. So far the herd had not been mean, so she figured she was accepted.

Adonis budded in after Duny. "If you see one send me after him!" He chirped, Sora snorting. "Adonis he'd tear you to shreds, and lone stallions are'nt something to joke about. And considering the amount of times you've fallen i was hoping some sense would've been knocked into your head but i suppose not." The mare mused, walking past him and to a empty spot where she could rest.

The horses were not mean; they just ignored her. "I wonder why." She asked herself. Maybe because everyone was watching Adonis and his mother reunite. Anyhow, Kersti decided, she would stay with the herd. It was safer together, and since nobody was mean, she realized they most likely didn't hear her.

Adonis watched the exchange, seeing a figure out in the woods and instantly reckognizing it. "Mother.." He breathed, pushing past the others and sprinting towards it. He was right, it was Sora--she was back after confronting the colt's sire. Adonis lead her back to the rest of the herd, Sora noticing numerous new faces.

Kersti cautiously walked up to the horses, not knowing if they would be friendly to her. "Hello!" She said.

Ghost stretched extending his front legs and leaning back, "that's a question I don't personally know," he flicked his tail standing back up and shaking

Duny shook his head his long cream colored mane flipping out of his face "nobody in my herd will harm your daughter, watch for lone stallions around here though if you see a bachelor herd send her back this way my mares will keep her safe," he lowered his head slightly to seem less intimidating "keep an eye out for rogue mares as well thell attack you and take your filly" he swished his tail at widow who just stood there like an idiot the whole time

Later that night as dawn neared, justice got up from hes bed in the grass, wondering over to where the little herd was and standing nearby, watching them, he walked back up to midnight, swatting his tail a bit, "So, what you said about your dam liking another, who was that? because I think mine had the same idea."

Amira returned the gentle and friendly smile to Justice "Of course we will help in any way we can" but at the mention of Storm, her smile faded and her ears turned back ever so slightly, she looked back in the herds direction then back at the young stallion before speaking "Yeah, your mother and mine were good friends by what I've been told by Ghost, my mother loved another stallion, but Storm got in the way, ruining what she could of had... He did a horrible thing to her, I also heard your dam met the same fate with the outlanders... Some stallion named Ash? That's how you and I exist..." Amira explained in one big go before taking a breath and looking at him again "Storm had been lingering around for a year or two, but my mother never let me near him, also I'm pretty sure he turned Skitzo and left...? I haven't seen him in ages so no, I don't think he's still around" She answered before he walked off to sleep, Amira, choosing to be a good herd mare, returned to the herd to sleep, only to graze in the morning

Justice walks a bit of a ways away from the two horses, tilting his head slightly to sniff the air, the scent of two other horses comes to his nose, but he chooses to ignore it and bed on the young grass instead.

Raela flicked her ears, catching the sound of hoofbeats. Her father must have heard it too, for he moved between her and the approaching strangers. She could see his whole frame stiffen as he said, "Raela, get behind me. If things go bad, run."

Raela nodded. She knew the drill. As the new horses came closer, she heard one say that they were on herd territory. 'Oh no, Father's in trouble!' Raela thought, panicking. She watched her father with fearful eyes as he walked a few steps toward the strangers with his ears pinned back.

"I am Darius. I am traveling with my daughter to the Western herd that lives by the coast. We did not know we were trespassing on your territory but rest assured that we will not stay long." Raela's father spoke, gazing at them fiercely. "We have not come looking for trouble, but if anyone touches my daughter, there will be."

The champagne stallion trotted through the woods when he made it to the open grasslands duny notic we two horses standing out on the far end. He shook his cream colored mane and trotted towards the horses, a dapple grey station and a silver filly. Slowing his pace duny looked at the dapple grey "your on herd teritory" he said flipping his long mane out of his eyes

___________

Widow cantwred after duny his paint coat shining in the sun, as the champagne came to a stop widow slid across the ground trying to not run into him, flicking his ears the young stallion spoke up "why are you out here? You don't look like the other herds around this area?"

Justice studies the two horses before speaking in a rougher tone, as if he had just escaped the pits of hell themself, "Thank you both, it would be amazing to get her out." He gave ghost one more unreadable look before smiling gently at amira, "I'v heard about storm, from what I can put together my dam was not a fan of the guy, no offence. Is he still around?"

Raela pranced across the rustling grass, her little hooves dancing effortlessly across the ground. The wild air seemed to pour energy into the foal's body, and her silvery mane swept along the wind's path.

"Father, come and dance with me!" she whinnied to a stallion standing not far behind her. The stallion, a light dappled grey, shook his head. Disappointed by his refusal, Raela twirled around and raced back to him. Nosing his scar-ridden shoulder, she murmured, "Why won't you join me? Mother always used to. It's not the same dancing alone."

The grey stallion closed his eyes, letting a wave of grief rush over him. Raela's dam had only died a few months ago, yet the sorrow at her passing was still as fresh as ever. "I'm sorry, little one. I have to watch for danger. I can't let anything happen to you, understand?"

Raela nodded. Seeing her father sink back into his solemn thoughts, she huddled closer, nudging him encouragingly. "Yes, Father, I understand. I just don't want you to be sad." Her father turned his head, his milky white mane intertwining with Raela's silvery one. "I'll be alright," he replied. "Once we get to the Western herd, you'll have all the companions you need. They'll be just your age too."

Ghost snorted "your mother is not a talented jumper either Amira, the only way she could get out would be to jump or open a locked gate" he swished his tail flicking his ears ,"wr can send duny out there to scope out the ranch queen is being kept at." Ghost tilted his head as he spoke analizing the posabilitys of getting queen out. Shifting his weight he scanned the herd with a cunning blue eye.

Amira lowered her head, connecting the dots. He really was Queen's son, and Queen was her dams great friend... "Your father was a outlander? Sorry told me about my sure, he was in the outlanders, his name was Storm. But I don't hear much, Ghost says My dam doesn't want to leave captivity because she was a ranch born horse, so when she was captured... She chose the ranch over me I guess" She explained, still not believing the horse that stood in front of her was somehow linked to the herd, she took a breath and nudged his shoulder encouragingly "Well, if there's a chance we can at least get Queen back, we can help" Amira tried to sound more enthusiastic

Justice tilts his head, studying the stallion a bit before speaking, "Yes, I am her son." He hears Amira stutter and turns to look at her, "My dam talked a LOT about a blue roan, and their friendship." He lowers his head slightly, "My dam was captured as well, before she had me, and is still in captivity now, but i'm trying to find a way to get her out." He lifts his head back up and ponders a bit before speaking, "She's not to interested in leaving couse of the outlanders, and my sire."

Amira's eyes widened "Is Queen... Your dam?" She asked, almost in disbelief but also raising questions, was Justice the same age as her? We're their dams mate the same stallion? Or different? How come they weren't raised together like her and Adonis? Amira's gaze didn't leave the stallion's frame

Amira glanced at Justice more intrieged then before "A... Blue roan...?" She asked, a small stutter in her tone as she stopped "Yes... My mother, her name was Midnight, she has a blue roan coat, But she was captured by humans when i was a few weeks old, Sorra is a roan, and yes, Ghost here is whit... How do you know all this?" She asked confused, when Ghost asked if Justice was QUEEN'S son, Amira's eyes widened "I

After ghost got his feet under himself he trotted up he hill after Amira spotting a horse . Queen? No this was a colt and he was alot younger then queen. Ghost shook his white mane and made it to the top of the hill "um am the same age as sora I'm not ancient" he stated before sropping his head to get a better look at the colt, " are you perhaps queens son?" He asked flicking his tail the light showing a few dapples of a even lighter white on his coat

Justice nods and gives her a small smile in return, then tilts his head, and trots after her, staying by her shoulder, "So, do sorra or your dam happen to be a blue roan? And is ghost, quoting my dam, ghostly white?" He shakes a bit more rain off, glancing at the sky to check if it was letting up any time soon, "My dam sometimes mentions those coats."

Amira glanced at Justice as he spoke, a short smile appearing on her face "Nice to meet you Justice" She said kindly, when he went on to explain why he was here she slowly nodded, something about his story got her intreged, when Justice asked if she knew any older horses she nodded "There are two horses, a mare named Sorra, and a ancient stallion named Ghost, my dam was one of them, but she was taken almost three years ago" Amira explained, she turned after a moment and looked back "Come, I'll bring you to them" She instructed before picking up a fast trot

Justice relaxes back slightly, shifting his weight from one front leg to the other as he studies the mare, "Im Justice, came from a ranch, my dam's still their. If you mind me asking, where's your herd?

He shakes his mane gently as it starts to lightly rain, "I was told to find somebody who would 'know' who i was, and there part of a herd in this regain, assuming my dam knows them they must be older, any older horses in your herd?"

Amira sighed, still a little disappointed that it wasn't who she thought it was, but when he answered her question her head raised a bit, glad he was at least ok, yet tired. When he asked who she was she looked back in the direction of the herd, then at the young stallion once again "My name's Amira, I come from a herd nearby, my mother found this land, and let the herd take it. Who are you?" She asked, looking him over again, He looked like he was around her age

Amira nipped Ghost's shoulder "I may be three, but let me say, if I catch you near a mountain side? I'll peel you back to the herd like a colt" She warned, before trotting away from the two stallions.
After moving for who knows how long, Amira stopped and scented the air, catching a scent, it reminded her of her mother, Midnight, she was greatful to Sorra for raising her with her own foal, Adonis, but oh how she longed for her mother's blue roan coat to return to the herd. Though as she sniffed, another scent on the wind grabbed her attention, leading Amira's gaze up a hill, seeing a champagne roan looking lump laying on the top of the hill, she recalled being a few weeks old and hearing the faint conversation between her dam and a champagne coated mare, was this her mother's friend? Did she know where Midnight was? Without a second thought Amira loped into a gallop up the hill "Miss?!" She called, though slowing to a stop at the top, seeing a stallion, not a mare "Oh... Um hello, are you ok?" She asked, his coat looked so familiar to the stories Ghost would tell

Justice walks through the dense overgrowth, his senses dull after the hours of galloping away from the closest thing to home he ever had. He still remembers his dam's face, the way she shook her head and stomped her hoof in defiance at the ranch hands, who were trying their best to rangle the runaway colt. He crested another hill just as the sun disappeared behind the next rise, and he felt his heart pounding in his chest as he replayed the words she said, as if it were the one thing keeping him clung to reality, "Run far and fast, find them, they will keep you safe, you share my coat so they will recognize you, be safe and go." He didn't quite understand who 'They' were, but he noted everytime his dam would take about her past, and that faraway look she would get, as if she was running with her herd once more. Whenever he would get a description, such as her mentioning a ghostly white stallion, or a blue roan mare, he would note it and tuck the thought into a box in his mind, a box that would save him, and hopefully is dam someday. as he reached the trough of the hill, he collapsed and closed his eyes, too exhausted to continue.
