he stared off into the distance, an approaching open field in front of them. "I'd love to do roping with you again, if your up for it." He sighed. "but i need to get a new roping horse before then." He noticed her expression shift and looked up slightly. "you ok?"

"Yeah. I love doing shows like that, but I don't think I can do roping again." She sighed, thinking about poor Sable, and then thinking of her own late mare, panic starting to claw its way at her once more.

He kept looking at her as she blushed, and smiling, he looked down slightly and fidgeted with his reins. Gambler tossed his head up and he stopped messing with the reins, patting the horse. "Would you ever do a show with me again?" He asked, uneasy. "I know last time was... well really bad, but those things happen one time out of a million." He sighed and looked at her, waiting. Gambler broke into a jog but Rand pulled him back into a walk.

Charlotte noticed Randy glance at her, Charlotte looking back at him softly. She caught his eye, locking gazes slightly before snapping out of it embarrassingly.

He glanced at her as she sighed. Reining Gambler around, he pulled up alongside her and they slowly walked to the head of the trails, riding in silence.

Charlotte hopped up on Kylie, using her opposite leg. Kylie looked confused, but was behaving well enough. Charlotte started walking out of the barn, right alongside Randy. She sighed softly.

He swiftly tacked Gambler up and led him out into the afternoon sun.

"Yeah." She sighed, standing up again to try to finish saddling Kylie. Kylie seemed calmer now, and more concerned as Charlotte slid the bit into her mouth, Kylie taking it just fine.

Randy turned his head and almost went to go help her but she managed. "Can I come?" He asked. He noticed her liming slightly and turned to her again, a worried expression on his face.

"I didn't realize." Charlotte turned to Kylie's stall. "I'm gonna go for a ride." She went and got all her tack and started tacking Kylie up. As Charlotte went to go throw the saddle on Kylie's back, the mare spooked at heck-knows-what and rammed her into a wall. Charlotte managed to put the saddle on her, but once she was done her leg was really sore. She plopped down on a hay bale, sighing. "Damn horse."

Jaden just sighed quietly and shook his head lightly, seeing the check in his hand and staring at it for a moment, sticking it in his pocket before walking to his truck, getting in, and starting the engine. The man took one last look in the rearview mirror to look at the barn, seeing Randy standing there and driving off, the feeling unbearable.

Randy nodded slightly, before going into the tack room and taking out a couple treats. He fed them to Gambler. "He's the only one who I didn't move back to the ranch, simply because he's another client's horse. He looked out the barn doors, and almost flinched when he saw Jaden loading up Loki. Quickly turning to Charlotte ''did you know that he was selling Loki? I don't get it. I thought... I thought he was making good money on him." He asked her, slightly perplexed.

Jaden had haltered Loki, scratching his neck as his new owners rolled onto the gravel drive, a trailer behind them. The man let out a soft sigh, looking up at the bay manchado colt, the thoroughbred snorting, nuzzling his owner's shoulder. "Can't be doin' that anymore bud, you ain't mine no longer." He murmured, a man hopping out of the truck and towards Jaden. "So, this the one?" He asked, Jaden nodding. "Yeah. . . this is the one, RF Frozen Guard, goes by Loki though." He explained, the new man nodding and taking the lead. Jaden let him, patting Loki's flank as he walked by, the horse stopping and craning his neck around to look at his former jockey, nickering once before being tugged forward into the trailer. Jaden watched as the gate was closed and Loki was shut out of his sight, the trailer driving off and away as the man stared into nothing, realizing all he was doing and hoping that future him would thank him for his actions.

Charlotte's stern expression softened slightly at the warmth on her shoulders now. "I haven't. He's probably still working with his horses or something." She rubbed her face tiredly. "I did terrible today. Also I'm sorry about Sable, she was really good. Y'all were perfect." Charlotte sighed softly.

Jaden had been sitting in the barn for over an hour, sipping on a coffee he didn't really want. Eventually he got up and shook the cold from his bones, hauling his saddles out to his truck and managing to fit all three in his backseat. He'd connected his Gooseneck to the feed truck, loading in both Cash and Vegas, their stalls empty as he went and put in their feed and bridles and such in the backseat, not minding to be quitting.

Randy held his face in his hands. He was tired. He checked his watch. It was early morning. He got out and drove to the barn to get his tack and move it to the ranch. He would only be boarding Gambler at the barn until he felt comfortable enough with bringing Sterling back. Opening aside the big barn door, he noticed a small figure sitting quietly. Squinting, he could barely make out that it was Charlotte. The sun had not yet risen fully and it was still pretty dark. He noticed an empty stall but shook it off. Charlotte looked up, shivering slightly. He sighed and took off his jacket, putting it over her shoulders. Glancing at the last place ribbon that slid out of her pocket, he felt guilty. He shouldn't have been at the show, he should've checked Sable over, what if he missed something? He was always a firm believer in that horses will and can show signs, and that they are smart animals. "You seen Jaden around?" he asked quietly.

Fenrir was angry, the human who caught him started all of this...he needed to get out, but how? Suddenly, the girl came back and looked scared. "Shhh...come on! We need to get you out of here!" the girl whimpered, unlocking the stable door and hopping onto Fenrirs back, cantering away out into the open field, feeling wild and free now...he was almost home, back to his herd he thought, neighing loudly as he broke into a gallop.

Jaden had won overall, yet every photo of him it was a obvious fake smile, the man despising how his name was plastered everywhere. It felt terrible winning, and when he put his tack up, he didn't get it back out for a year.

Fenrir was in his stable, wild but angry since the girl he bonded had disappeared for a few days. "Come on...let me out..." Fenrir neighed loudly and tried to break the stable door, but it was no use. It seemed to be reinforced wood (I don't know why) and he barely made a dent.

Charlotte backed Kylie up, the mare spinning in a quick, nervous circle as the gunshot sounded. Charlotte covered her mouth and dismounted Kylie, being ushered out of the arena. She untacked Kylie and sat in her stall, waiting for Randy to come back. She felt really bad and sorry for him. She didn't see him leave, and eventually saddled Kylie back up for her reining class. She went out there and did terribly, being in a serious and sad mood. Kylie missed a turn and bucked. Charlotte through anger drove home with her trailer, arriving a little before midnight in the barn, stuffing the last place ribbon deep in her pockets in hope to forget about it. She got Kylie all comfy, but by the time she was done, it was about the time she usually arrived to the barn. Charlotte sat on a hay bale silently.

Randy let out a dry laugh. "thanks Jaden." he looked at the man, and petted Cash. "and thanks for getting everyone outta there. That was needed." He turned back to Sterling. "I guess things happen. She was a good horse." He sighed and looked off into the distance. It looked like the show had started up again, and it was tie-downing. He shook away his momentary guilt and muttered "ha, the show must go on." to Jaden. Randy sighed and loaded Sterling up. He wouldn't be competing today. "You got a good chance. Iv'e seen you rein." He smiled and shook Jaden's hand, before shutting the door and getting into his truck. Starting the truck, he drove off toward home. Sterling would stay at his ranch for a couple of days.

Jaden debated on following or not, to which he did. He walked Cash after him from a distance, leading him with a rein. The man approached Randy's trailer, a feeling of sorrow in the air. "Impressive you're trooping through all that happened, most would've crashed and burned yet, here you are. I'm sorry that happened to you, Randy." He managed, not really knowing what to say.

Randy sighed and looked at the tie-downers. He just lost his best roper. Inwardly he cursed. He still had reining to do on Sterling, but he felt like a pile of horse shit. Sable had been with him for a while, and he'd worked on her for just as long. He had been planning to keep her until she passed naturally, or otherwise sell her for a good price. He gave Jaden a look of thanks, and went to his trailer. he ran a hand through his hair and put his hat back on as he watched the tractor drag the roans body out of the arena.

All of the tie-down ropers waiting by the chutes winced when the shot went off. One of the horses spooked and backed into a panel, but its rider, Joey, got it under control quickly. Austin shifted in his saddle, watching the scene unfold in the arena. One of the younger guys murmured, 'You think they're still gonna go through with tie-down after this?', and Austin shot him a glare that shut him up. "Who cares if they do? It's never good when something goes south for someone."

Jaden and Dmitri were still celebrating until they heard the gunshot, the two snapping back to reality as their gazes cast into the arena to see Randy on the ground and Sable still, laying down. Jaden hopped off Cash and handed off his reins, rushing over to start getting the spectators out of the arena. His booming yell silenced all of them, the entire group moving away. "Hey! Move it, out of the arena!" He yelled, the group backing just slightly back into the stands as many started leaving, though most stayed. Once he was satisfied, he returned back to Cash, taking his reins and remounting as he saw Randy and Charlotte both being ushered out. The round eventually was over, and him and Dmitri had taken first, getting 30 grand each, though it was hard to enjoy the victory.

Randy swallowed as he backed the little roan into her chute. Charlotte gave him a smile from the other side. He couldn't shake a certain feeling of dread. He shook it off. -Its just that I'm roping, roping always makes you a little nervous.- he thought. He steadied his horse and they took off. Sable ran swiftly, and they had just lassoed the calf perfectly when he felt Sable stumble. Horse and rider quickly went down, the saddle horn smashing into Randy's leg. -Oh shit- he thought. He bit back his pain and painfully stood up, limping over. The calf was running loose around the arena, and Charlotte was already making her way toward him. The spectators watched. He limped over to where Sable had fell, but he swore his heart stopped when he saw her mangled leg. It had snapped cleanly right below the joint, and Sable lay there, breathing heavily. He swallowed. A hand was already getting the calf, and the Staff were untacking sable as she lay there. The crowd was an uproar. Charlotte watched, as if in a trance. -How could this go so wrong?- he thought. One of the staff brought a small Luger. "Hey, mister, we don't usually do this but if your planning on putting her down, you better do it now." He looked at Randy sympathetically. "We just can't drag this animal out when she's alive. Randy nodded. Most of the Staff were now trying to get the spectators out, but everyone knew what was coming. Charlotte walked up with Kylie. "Move Kylie, Charlotte" Chalotte did. He patted Sable, took careful aim, and fired. The gunshot almost deafened him, but the Roan stopped struggling.

The girl put Fenrir away in his stable, smiling as she walked away to tack up her horse, Smokey as she rode to the arena and practiced barrel racing. Dang, she is good at that. Fenrir thought as he huffed, sick and tired of everyone rushing around. He watched the girl more and saw that she was doing pole-bending next, trotting then cantering.

Dmitri and Jaden were up in team roping, Jaden saying a quick prayer before pushing his hat down and hopping up on Cash. The gelding was tense beneath him, ready to take off and go. The two discussed for a moment, backing into their shoots and waiting. They both watched, spurs ready before taking off and tossing their lassos, stopping their horses and pulling them tight before looking at their time and grinning, Jaden noting it a new PR.
Their time? 3.4
