| So mares and stallions in the same pasture will breed, but only those. Mares + geldings is fine, stallions and geldings is fine, and obviously foals or CS mares can't breed. Stallions and mares put together in a pasture will breed "the natural way" and any foals they produce will automatically be placed in your first available barn or pasture slot. |

| I've just started growing hay myself this game year so I found all that out very recently myself. Pastures are really good and I think the only downsides are you can't capture directly into them and you have to make sure not to put stallions and mares together if you don't want passive breeding. |

| Well you plant hay during the spring if you don't have any horses in it, then you harvest it for bales after 12 days. When the pasture doesn't have hay, it will just have grass, that the horses will eat instead of hay. The grass quality goes down if you have too many horses, but comes up if there are no/few horses. The better the grass quality, the less hay the horses in that pasture require. |
