I just really enjoyed getting into the genetics of fancy mice. I bought from reputable breeders in a few states with really good stock, bred them up and culled what I didn't need. At one point I had over 120 mice when I did my first hard cull (adult and grow outs. I reduced litter sizes within 2 days of birth so litters were 4-6 per mom)
That first massive cull killed me. Dispatching 40 mice at once is... it's hard on the heart. That's when I decided to lower my numbers until eventually I was at 14 adults, 3 males with their own females, culling all but the best babies, and then stopped completely. Was not easy at all. |
