My sister uses an IUD and has had no issues with it. I myself have been on the pill since the age of 15 (specifically the pill Junel Fe) and it has worked so far. I havent had any side affects and no pregnancies (I use it as my only form of BC while in relationships). Personally, If you are choosing between an IUD and the pill- I would take the pill if you know you're able to take it everyday (i.e. have other medications anyway so its easy to not forget it). If you're prone to being forgetful, I'd do the IUD.

i know the insertion is EVILLL and my friends that have had them some have liked them some havent, but i think they all ended up getting them removed for varying reasons (removal is also EVIL)
