We have lost soo many pets over the years to Snake bite. Usually at least one a year. Loast a beautiful mare a couple of years ago, it was horrible. I wish we had more non venomous ones. |

We had ONE that was hand raised because his mother passed. First day I was around there I was standing next to these HEAVY metal bars... He wedges his face through. And nudged me. I went ghostly white. The keeper training me couldn't quit laughing... He was harmless. |

Better than being charged and almost kicked by one. I'm a hard pass on zebras 😂 |

I had a really mean trinket rat snake that used to bite me a lot. Ended up having to handle him with gloves until he ran away. He was smaller but it wasn't too terrible |

@Puck, he is! He finally started to settle in and be more outgoing yesterday. |
Greenheart Stables |
Being bit by a snake honestly scares me more then it actually hurts. I've been bit by both a copperhead once and my Ball Pythons sometimes during feeding. |

Garter snake musk is rank so it's probably good they scooted off lol |

Another part of the job... Every chance you get bit one day. Not just by snakes lol Extra precautions are taken with venomous ones and we RARELY ever handle them. Like, never. Most of them have two, if not three enclosures that we guide them between to clean the other ones. |

I tried to pick up a garter snake once, but it was too fast so it got away. Bull snakes are kind of big here and I could totally imagine being bit if you picked one up. Even if they aren't venomous it would hurt. |

Well, working at a zoo, it's something I had to learn eventually. It's inevitable. We just don't practice on actual venomous ones... Just super spicy non-venomous noodles. Lol |

Training helps, for sure. I don't think anyone picks up snakes here unless they are "Snake Catchers". |
