Not quite nepotism but I can reinforce the strong connections. I got one of my jobs because a facility where I moved from recommended me to a facility in the place I moved to. It immediately moved my name up.
Ambrosia
Having strong connections is a blessing. But I also interned for 10 years prior at the same department and I'm VERY good at my job. Nepotism doesn't mean someone will be good enough to keep on staff

@Amb, booooo. Someone took a job I wanted because of nepotism. They were promised a position even though they hadn't even graduated yet and I had.
Hummingbird Meadows
Yeah, all my interviews had a quick phone call first where they asked about my qualifications and gave a more detailed job description.
Stormsong Manor
It might just be a short process to weed out people they don't want to invest any more time into
Ryn Equestrian
My phone interview went by super fast but they said they want to move forward with me and do an in person interview and give me a tour 👀 I’ve never done a phone interview before so is that normal lol

I, too, am a licensed rehabber. I am also licensed to ornithology. You'd be shocked the number of people who ask if they can have the baby back after it's stable. Like, um... No lol
Whitewolf
Ok. Anyway I’m off. Just wanted to share it but now my spirits are a little dampened Lol! Take care
Stormsong Manor
In my small amount of taxidermy work I've never worked on a bird, but I know there are a lot of laws regarding even that.
Whitewolf
Yeah I work for animal control and I’m the one who gets to save things. Our main vet is a licensed rehabber. Birds and exotics, etc. Anyway.
Versailles
Honestly? In all the time I've spent in ornithology and falconry, eggs hatch more frequently than we give them credit for. Somehow they're more fragile once hatched than inside of the egg itself lol
Versailles
Going to note (not at you, Fang, just so anybody reading doesn't get any ideas), that it is NOT legal for anybody outside of the field to try and raise and/or keep wild baby birds OR their eggs.
