We had the issue with my in laws' dog and it turned out he was allergic to chicken. Switching food stopped it

My older kitten (10mo to 1yr about) is over grooming spots on her
It's to the point of being a little bald
Every time the hair rigors she chews it off
I was convinced it was bordem
She has had to stay in a crate overnight because she would wreck everything & possibly harm herself
However today I was her eat a hair fluff that was laying on my bed
I know chickens will eat feathers when they need more protein or somthing
Is this a deficiency? Any ideas?
She is finally mature enough to roam the house at night now but not much has changed
