My new gelding HATES flys with a burning passion. He will throw a temper tantrum over them, a horsefly landed on his hip while I was riding him and he almost flipped over backwards freaking out about it 🤦🏼♀️ |

Then things are terrifying to be honest - and wasps. Those seem to love horses. |

Vinegar, tea and citronella mixed together does vaguely work. A lady who's horse I looked after used to make it and I have to say we didn't seem to get bothered as much. That being said, we didn't get bothered by people much either because it stank to high heaven |

A combo of fly spray + sulfur powder +/- menthol crystals works quite well |

To be fair I think flies get use to certain things so the repellents become useless after a while |

I saw somewhere that a spray bottle and some condiment or something worked for them as a homemade fly repellent |

I've yet to find a fly spray that get rid of them and the only thing that seems to work is a hand. Unfortunately, it's a 50/50 chance that they'll explode :| |
