Juno Wow that is interesting. You would think being able to see the pole best would have the best performance |

Also geldings performed better than mares, suspect that females ( of multiple species) have better colour perception. I think its been brought i in terms of women seeing better spectrums of colour but i suppose it could apply to multiple species |

Angel that they perform best over colours with LESS value contrast to the background, which was the opposite of what i expected. We used black poles for a control. Then blue ,green, and red for the actual colours. I wanted to use yellow but the yard didn't have any. Pretty interesting that they didn't like the poles they could see more clearly. It was luminance and value that played the biggest role which i suppose is to be expected as they cant see the full colour spectrum. |

Ven Very true you would think the most "intelligent" species on earth would be less self destructive |

Ven i have the strong belief that it's long term psychological stress. Like the stereotypical behaviours you might see in horses. |

Angel so it is! i did a paper on the effect colour perception has on a horse's jumping performance a few months ago |

I think we're the weirdest of all. Actively self-destructing ourselves, we know it's happening, and we keep doing it anyway. Nowhere else in nature will you find that |

Juno Yep that is what we will investigate lol Also you could argue that there are other semi aquatic animals that also give live birth and rodents spend most of their time under ground which again most of them give live birth ;) |
Starfawn Sporthorses |
angel perhaps because their offspring and underdevoloped by the end of gestation? platyous are semi aquatic so cant have underdeveloped young on their body ( like marsupials) as they would drown, and echidnas spend a fair amount of time undergorund so imagine the same reasoning applies. That and it just works so adapting didnt lower or raise mortality in the early stages of life |
