Vinegar, tea and citronella mixed together does vaguely work. A lady who's horse I looked after used to make it and I have to say we didn't seem to get bothered as much. That being said, we didn't get bothered by people much either because it stank to high heaven

A combo of fly spray + sulfur powder +/- menthol crystals works quite well

To be fair I think flies get use to certain things so the repellents become useless after a while

I feel like fly sprays in general are relatively useless these days
BlackRose

I saw somewhere that a spray bottle and some condiment or something worked for them as a homemade fly repellent

I've yet to find a fly spray that get rid of them and the only thing that seems to work is a hand. Unfortunately, it's a 50/50 chance that they'll explode :|

Hogged and clipped cobs are beautiful

Haha Min 😂 it sounds like your have your ponies’ best considerations at heart, which is all that matters

Denali will straight up start bucking if one lands on her rump

Oh jeez, I don't think I've ever seen one that big
Minerva

I'm much more into the idea of a fully hogged and clipped out cob than I used to be. I think that came with realising the difference between grooming them sometimes and having sole responsibility for their upkeep lol

We have ones that hit 25mm or so long
BlackRose

They have a pretty painful bite. I’ve been bitten by one and had some swelling

Personally find hogged manes look just…. bad, but that’s purely my personal aesthetic view! Completely agree with Min re. the heat blanket though. Thank god for plaits

We definitely get horse flies unfortunately. A friend of mine blows up like a balloon when she gets bitten- evil little fuckers.

Hmm.. I'm not really sure how much of my old code's styles to transfer over to the changed layout

I love short manes on big horses

I'm genuinely not a huge fan of the heavy hairy horses. But i do prefer to see them hogged
