Uh. I work at a vet clinic and we had a mare foal on Monday. Retained her placenta for over 24hrs and the owners never called a vet. She came in yesterday with metritis and sepsis with laminitis. She was in tough shape. I hope she makes it. We loaded her up on fluids, antibiotics, and anti-inflammatories and did a uterine flush. People man. We would have saved so much trouble and pain if they would have called right off the bat. It was their first foal they have bred before of course.

Im just praying that Denny doesnt have any issues, Im pretty confident that Dani and Barbie will be ok theyve both had previous foals and never had an issue

We're guessing so, but we were sure she had passed it all, it was totally intact we stretched that thing out and checked it over with a fine tooth comb when she passed it

I'm convinced that the year has been shit for breeding all across the board

and then we *thought* she cleaned ok the placenta was totally in tact, and then were checking over everything and giving the filly Selenium yesterday and Rebas got a uterine infection now and we had to flush her out and put her on antibiotic, I dont think we are breeding her back, Im pretty sure were culling her out which is a shame because the filly is so freaking cute

mare weve owned for 7 years, we *finally* got a foal outta her this year and the cow wouldnt let her nurse, I had to literally tie her up and then tie a foot up while I directed the colt where to go because she kept kicking her off -_- I literally got 2 hours of sleep monday night because Shirley called me in a panic because Reba was foaling
Morning Glory Farms
were you around on tuesday when I was bitching about Reba? lol
Cappuccino
LOL the babies is what had me. The process, FAR too stressful for my little heart. I have that much more respect for full time breeders for sure
The Old Gods
Obviously, they're crossing their legs because they like all the attention
Morning Glory Farms
I love it, I love working with the babies but man I hate the actual foaling out, Especially maidens, Reba on monday reminded me why I hate maidens lmao
Morning Glory Farms
We have people calling us wanting to bring their mares for us to start covering and were telling people no because these fuckers wont foal so we dont have pens lmao
Cappuccino
Yeah props to y'all who breed regularly. I don't think I can bring myself to do it again
Angels angels
Give her a bath The massage can help stimulate them to go into labor lol
