Dogs (pets in general) become family so easy. I had my girl for just shy of 17 years before she passed in 2023. got her in elementary school school as a gift. Watching them get hurt or sick or pass is never easy to see

Lyra, Yeah, we just sent in samples of waste and urine and they took blood while she was there. We are hoping we get results by tomorrow!
Pagani
Firefly, Awe I'm sorry you gotta go through that. And yeah, I'm hoping not either. I really hope this was just a one time thing. It was definitely traumatizing to see as I see her as my daughter. My parents allowed me to pick her out as she's my dog, so I've always had a special bond with her and to see her go through that was like something out of a horror movie. :(

Yeah ticks are insane right now, I can't believe how bad it is and summer hasn't even started. I hope your vet has answers for you soon
Firefly Forrest
Ani, I hope your lab doesn't get any more seizures our seven year old lab hasn't had its a rough thing to go through
Pagani
Lyra, I am very vigilant about ticks as they're getting worse and worse here each year. And of course she got one before we gave her flea and tick meds. But so far I haven't felt any others on her. But I will definitely keep that in mind. As of now, she's just relaxing. -Click-

If she had a tick and you guys are in the woods, I would be going with that first. Ticks suck and symptoms can take a long time to show. I would thoroughly run through every inch of her if you can, including her muzzle. My dog had a tick inside of her lip from sniffing the ground
Pagani
I never knew labs were at high risk of seizures. Was definitely extremely terrifying.
Dayseeker
Unfortunately both labs and retrievers are also high risk for cancer, too, which also can cause seizures :( I hope that is not the case though. Your vet should have results soon I imagine
Pagani
Lyra, She had a tick a few weeks ago but since then, she has been all healed up. We do have woods and so we thought ticks but I am really at a loss right now.

Eve, As far as I know of, no. She was laying in my bed and got down so I thought she was just going to walk around. Then I started hearing weird things so I got up and she was only shaking a little and wobbling. She was aware as I was near her and she was looking at me but not with an estranged look. Then she got on my bed and I thought she calmed down as my immediate thought wasn't seizure due to her having no previous history of such. But, she flipped out on my bed, fell off and yeah just went crazy from there. Lost control of her bladder and such. Normally my room is her safe place and where she goes if there is a stressful situation.

My gsp x great Pyrenees has epilepsy. He never had them until he turned 4, if I remember correctly, but his were quite mild. We were able to get him on medication and he hasn't had one since.

epilepsy can be managed fairly well with meds in dogs. I mean, it wouldn't be a cure and seizures can still happen but it helps reduce it. Has she been in the woods and been checked for ticks? ticks can very easily cause seizures too

Was your dog stressed out? I had a labsky that would have seizures, but only at the vet, because she was stressed out. Her brain just snapped and eventually she got used to going to the vet and outgrew it.
Pagani
I took her this morning and they're doing blood tests on her but I'm just hoping it's not hereditary and that it won't be constant as she's never had one before and she's 3. But I was just wondering if labs are prone to it. I know about the breed quite a bit but I've never stopped to think if they're prone to seizures.
Dash and Duchess
Ani, oh gosh that's awful! To my knowledge labs can be at greater risk of epilepsy, so it may be that she's just showing symptoms now, i'd recommend talking with her vet and giving them whatever you find from her dam's info <3
