Spring, I'm so sorry for your loss

Large animal vets around me are useless. My 2 year old was colicking last weekend and only one guy out of probably 10 we called picked up. And he was an hour and a half away. So we did have to put her down, unfortunately. We did have a REALLY good equine vet there for a while, but he retired. Thankfully my aunt's the leading tech at one of the small animal clinics, and one of their vets had experience with equine euthanasia, so she was able to come out and put her down.

There's only a few vets in my area and one purposely charges a premium just because of that reason. I went there for a quote on spaying my other dog and they quoted me almost 2,000$ plus some unnecessary tests I didn't ask for. So I been vet shopping. I needed to get my cat's teef cleaned. I found a good vet but they're so overwhelmed with clients that they told me if I wanted an appointment, I'd have to go on the waiting list which would put me somewhere at the end of August or beginning of September. Then I found a new vet open in the area that had room for appointments. Got my cat toof checked, then the vet tells me he doesn't have the equipment for doing the cleaning yet. So I'm still looking out for a vet that will do toof cleaning..

It's funny and pitiful how you have friends that say they'll always help you every time you break your back to help them and when you finally need their help they say they can't or they won't

Our vets here are great for both horses and goats. My heart horse had to get seen on a weekend after ripping off the back of his eyelid (it grew back). Had to trailer in my pony for an eye injury, which sadly seems permanent. Had my goat vet out twice after hours on the weekend trying to treat my wether, and unfortunately he needed up having to be put down. So there are definitely some great vets out there. Just have to find them and hang on to them.

It really depends on the vet. I think most of them are in it for the right reasons. It's a lot to go through, especially mentally

Having to end an animal's life to end their suffering always sucks :( im so sorry for what you're going through Rose

I got lucky and worked on site with an exotics vet who would see my snake

I hesitate to say vets suck because yes there are terrible ones out there but also most genuinely get into it for the love of the animals and its already bad hours (especially for rural large animal) and often low pay relative to the services, plus they all have to carry their own insurance or be insured under the clinic, and most private clinics are dying because they can't financially keep up so they end up having to go corporate and the people who run the corporate clinics aren't even vets half the time

We thankfully have one vet that does after hours. We had to use them when our miniature got her face torn off by a dog 😫

The closest vet for my snakes is an hour and a half away and they only take appointments which makes getting a spot difficult. Not every exotic vet treats most exotic animals ive found 😅

I have a whole credit card sitting with the balance open out of terror that something will happen to Thor. He's 12 now

Where I live there are mobile vets for after hour and weekend emergencies. Comes in handy for livestock
