I think it completely disappears, I do the same and I come back and find the tack is just gone

But since I didn't use much tack in the past here's a question for the experienced tack hoarders: if I forget to clean it until it gets to 0,does it disappear completely or just gets unequipped until I clean it so I can use it again?
