Im currently learning about this from a documentary im watching but a hippo's incredible reflex that lets them surface for air and sink back down without fully waking, often bobbing up every few minutes to breathe before submerging again. While they can't truly swim or float due to their dense bodies, they walk along the riverbed and use this subconscious process to sleep soundly underwater.

i think they do sleep floating.... this convo has gotten very interesting xD

Em Yeah mostly, they kill roughly 500 people anually, and are VERY aggressive.
Angels angels
Yeah they can sleep under water for short times, and floating for longer periods
BlackRose
Don’t they sleep in the water too? Like they can just sleep floating? Or have I got that wrong…
Angels angels
Starstruck The silver gene is just hiding under all the color lol
BlackRose
Hippos are extremely fast… I also learned they don’t swim they run underwater
Asteria
or if you want too be fancy their sweat's red blood color is called hipposudoric and norhipposudoric acids.
Angels angels
Hippos are not nice at all.. they are very agressive and deadly
BlackRose
The baby hippo: “I’d like to order a pink drink, two shots of salmon and two shots of seahorse!”
Asteria
Hippos milk isnt pink in general, its just when it comes in contact with their "blood sweat " their original Milk color is white/cream, so if you ever drink "pink hippo's milk" (which you shouldnt) Your just drinking blood-sweat milk
