I’ve seen people feeding them to the horses directly or feeding them to chickens too
Crestwood Eq.

The turtle enjoys eating them though. Mom would carry containers with her while we fed the horses, and she'd usually end up going back to the house with 10 or more of the things

To be fair when they buzz around me and get caught in my hair and do that buzzing thing right in my ear I flip out too
Crestwood Eq.

Seriously, the things are huge. They're big enough that they make a solid thump when they fly into the side of the barn

Person: “wtf is she running for?”

Me: “Big jumbo jet fucker!!!”

My new gelding HATES flys with a burning passion. He will throw a temper tantrum over them, a horsefly landed on his hip while I was riding him and he almost flipped over backwards freaking out about it 🤦🏼‍♀️

Then things are terrifying to be honest - and wasps. Those seem to love horses.

Adding "big jumbo jet fuckers" to my vocabulary now, that's fantastic xD
BlackRose

Jumbo jet 😂😂😂

Vinegar, tea and citronella mixed together does vaguely work. A lady who's horse I looked after used to make it and I have to say we didn't seem to get bothered as much. That being said, we didn't get bothered by people much either because it stank to high heaven

...Except on the big jumbo jet fuckers..

A combo of fly spray + sulfur powder +/- menthol crystals works quite well
BlackRose
12:39:05 Stella
To be fair I think flies get use to certain things so the repellents become useless after a while
Minerva
12:38:30 Min
I feel like fly sprays in general are relatively useless these days
BlackRose
12:38:20 Stella
I saw somewhere that a spray bottle and some condiment or something worked for them as a homemade fly repellent
The Old Gods
12:37:19 Void Malign
I've yet to find a fly spray that get rid of them and the only thing that seems to work is a hand. Unfortunately, it's a 50/50 chance that they'll explode :|

Hogged and clipped cobs are beautiful
