It had been a rather good day, with the sun shining and a warm breeze blowing about the royal gardens, bringing the fragrant scent of flowers and fruit into the air. Birds sang and the children of the court could be heard playing somewhere in the courtyard, their boisterous laughter echoing in the wind. However, the goodness of the day would soon be ended when the King and Queen called for their daughter to be brought into the sitting room. Eliza came into the lavishly decorated room, her lilac gown flowing around her as she sat, greeting her parents who had a much too serious look upon their faces.
"Mother, Father. I know this isn't a simple company call. What's the matter?" She asked, her hands folded gently in her lap. They appeared nervous, and rightfully so, as the news they next dumped onto their daughter had her standing straight up out of her seat. "You want me to marry who?" She hissed, earning herself a stern look from her father, who then groaned and rubbed his hands over his stubbled face. "You are going to marry Ian Tran whether you like it or not. You are long past the age to be wed, Eliza, and he is the best match for the kingdom. It is not up for debate. He and his family will be here this evening for a ball being thrown in honor of the betrothal. Further details will be discussed later." He told her, and Eliza opened her mouth to object, but the King held up a single hand to silence his daughter. Eliza made a rather displeased sound before pushing past the servant at the door and leaving the room before she was ever dismissed. Of all people she could marry, they wanted it to be him. Ian Tran. Ian thrust his spear forward the animal, the tip piercing the unlucky animal. His father grunted and picked up the carcass throwing it over his shoulder, “Walk with me son”. Ian sped up and fell in sync with his father, the sun beating down on the dry field causing an uneasy feeling to wash over him, “You are getting married, I don’t want to hear you whining, you will go along with this”. Ian froze, not a muscle in his body wanted to move, “But..” “Eh what did I say, not a word, now go and get ready we leave this afternoon to attend a ball by the family” Ian mounted his horse and guided it towards the castle each stride closer to home made his chest feel heavier and heavier, how could his father suddenly spring this on him? He led the horse to a servant and entered the castle. He climbed the stairs, each step making his feet more and more tired, after reaching his room he closed the door and drew a deep breath in, “How is it that my world can come crashing down all of a sudden?” he held his head in his hands, “What am I to do?” Ian reached for his baggy white shirt and put on some braies (had to do some medieval investigation xD) he pulled over his waistcoat and made his way to his door, “C’mon ian, hold it together” he said aloud to himself. Composing himself he walked down the stairs steadily and towards the awaiting carriage in which his father and mother were seated. He bowed and took a seat. The trip was painstaking. The constant swaying of the carriage reminded him of the journey he was making. Ian didn't even know who the young woman was for all he knew it could be Eliza DeLuca the one person he tried to avoid being around. - Before long they arrived at the castle, carriages aligned the property ready for the banquet. Ian entered the castle his head held high, well that was before he realised who the young woman in front of him was. "Eliza" he said in a deep voice, "How pleasent to see you again" he said with a small frown on his face but not visible enough for his parents. His parents on the other hand were smitten over her, "What a lovely young woman, you are" His mother gasped, "And beautiful if I may add, isn't she Ian" His mother added holding onto his arm, "Yes mother" Ian said slowly, "Don't be silly dear, tell her that". Ian gulped and managed to find the words to come out, "You look very lovely tonight" His mother continued to smile but by the grip that she now had on his arm he understood well enough that she was not pleased. |

Eliza was sure to express her disdain to her parents, wreaking havoc whenever she could or making off handed remarks that earned her scolding looks. She ignored them, of course, too irritated to play nice. Of all people they had to choose, it was him. They knew she didn't care not even a single inch to be around Ian, but now she was to marry him too soon for comfort. It had all been a ploy for power. Whatever kept the kingdom strong and happy was what needed to happen. Forget love or even happiness. It was power or destruction, and her parents had chosen power.
- Time passed and Eliza was soon escorted by her parents to meet her newly betrothed. Her head was high, her smile painted on confidently despite the way it struggled to reach her eyes. It was just a mask, but deep down her parents knew how she felt. "Ian. I could say the same to you," she greeted dipping her head politely. Her smile had faultered, but as her attention shifted to his parents, it was reinforced again, her smile and words as warm and friendly as her mother demanded that they be. Their compliments were flattering, though she was sure only his mother had meant it, considering how forced Ian seemed to compliment her. "Thank you. You're both too kind," she replied her eyes flicking from his mother to Ian. Her smile fell a little again, but a sharp pinch from her mother had her jumping before she smiled once more.
"We are thrilled to have you in our home. Eliza, wouldn't you like to take Ian on a stroll through the gardens?" Her own mother spoke, and when Eliza opened her mouth to object, she felt another sharp pinch to her arm. Biting back a squeal, Eliza nodded slowly, her nose twitching lightly in annoyance.
"Of course, mother. Ian, would you join me please?" She requested, her tone struggling to remain sweet. At least then they could escape their mothers and the pleasantries that came from being in their watchful eyes. |

Ian watched as his parents walked away. He walked slowly behind Eliza keeping watch of any servants that followed. Finally when they were outside he turned and stopped Eliza in her tracks, "Did you know about this" his voice revealing a soft growl. He didn't bother waiting for the answer, "First, I'm being forced to marry which I would be able to barley cope with, except for the fact its you" Of all princesses it had to be Eliza, Ian whinced and stared at the ground wishing it would swallow him up, only then did he look around and notice how upset Eliza looked. 'She can't be disappointed in this any less than I am' Ian said to himself. He managed a quick glance up at her, the sun hitting her hair and making it almost seem a nice shade of blue. He adjusted his heavy crown and sighed. Whether he liked it or not he was stuck. "Look the best we can do is 'pretend' to enjoy the night, many high officals are here and if I want to secure my place in line for the throne, I have to show i'm stable" |
