Happy August everyone! I hope everyone had a good reading month. As discussed, we changed our club a bit. This will be the forum for discussing your July reads. Feel free to share anything you wish about the books you read. I did provide a small list of recomendations, these were not required, but if you read any of them I would love to hear your thoughts! If you would just like to list the books and what you rated them, that is fine! We also encourage you to share your thoughts about the books so other readers here can find new books they may want to read or even find some they may want to avoid.
.
.
I do ask if you are going to include spoilers (which is 100% allowed) just include a warning before your discussion about that particular books, so anyone who is planning on reading it can avoid spoilers!

I will get this thing started!
I have sadly been in a huge book slump all year so far. I have the urge to read, but when I have time I don't have the brain power. My job and school have been taking up all my time and energy. I need to find that mind blowing read to get me out of this slump, so please help me! lol
.
I was only able to read one book this month. I promise I will do better next month.
(Summery and review does not contain any spoilers, all of the following is talked about in the synopsis)
The book was Such Quiet Girls by Noelle W. Ihli. This book was about a woman who has a job as a school bus driver for an afterschool program. This particular bus suttles the rich kids from out of town schools to the program. The kids are around 7-12 years old. On their route to the after school center one day, the bus is stopped by two men and they end up kidnapping the driver and all the kids. The kidnappers burry them underground in a shipping container, and are asking one of the parents to pay a ransom for their release.
I rated this book about a 3.5. It was pretty gripping once you got into it and concluded very well. I don't really like when thriller books have a bunch of nonsense after the conclusion of the plot, and this one had a little bit, so I had to skin over that, but it wasn't bad. I would recomend this book to fellow thriller readers!

Well an obsession with greek mythology has happened so that's what I've reading and would love more suggestions. I absolute loved Madeline Miller's The Song of Achilles and Circe, and now I'm reading Jennifer Saint's Ariadne. What I like the most about these books is that while being historically accurate, none of them feel like a boring textbook like some others have. While The Song of Achilles was in some ways similar to the Iliad, and Circe had some plots points like the The Odysessy, neither felt like a retelling. I thought Miller did a wonderful job of diving into POV's that aren't so commonly told like Patroclus and Circe. I couldn't put these books down and even though I knew what would happen in some parts because I've read the Iliad and the Odyssey. I think Miller gave new life to stories that many people find boring because it's something you're forced to read in school. I'm still working on Ariadne but I think Saint and Miller have similar writing styles and I love how you feel as if you're reading autobiography instead of a random mythology story that sorta feels blown up and made up.

This July I got to be an advanced reader for Fracture the Night by Sophia Watchel. It was incredibly exciting considering I love her other two books in the Project Phoenix Series. I'm happy to say that Fracture the Night was so much better than I expected and I had super high hopes!
The first book in the Project Phoenix Series is called the Kingdom of Feather and Sky
( The following summary and review does not include any spoilers )
This book is about a young Princess who after her brothers murder was scared to ever have feelings for someone else but she ends doing so. She sets out to avenge her brothers murder and what she finds is not at all what she expected.
I absolutely loved this book 5 out of 5 for sure! Its a fantasy kind of romancy book and I high recomend it to every reader.

Have you heard of the book The Games Gods Play by Abigail Owen? I haven't read it yet, but I have it on my want to read list. It is about the greek gods. It sounds really cool, and I am not a fantasy reader!

Have you read the Cruel Prince series? If not I bet you would love it! I have only read the first one and hopefully I will continue it one day. But it was so good!
