Graphic design. I'm taking it accelerated and online so I'm about half done. Only a year and a half or 9.5 terms to go.

Zrek I love typography and layout design but it wont ruin my love of creating art so that's what my jobs and portfolio are focused towards

Yeah. That's why I kinda determined I need to figure out the career fields that drive me in a different form. More like I enjoy doing it because it's more like learning a skill I appreciate every day directly and has a purpose, rather than just solely for $$$. Otherwise it feels like I'm just another cog doing cog things.

The job I have right now only needed a four year degree with no specifications

It drained me. I don't work full time in graphic design and never have. I've done a bunch of freelance and I've done design work in other roles, but I knew when I graduated that I didn't want to pursue it full time. And I was 110% set on it being my career.

That's the thing - I could see myself having the enjoyment drained out of it if I did it as a career in the wrong way. That's why I'm questioning what my education should be for/in. Because I still wanna at least pursue my passions on the side, but I equally don't want my base income to be something that doesn't give me some sort of drive and improvement of my personal existence.

It's not as bad with the applied arts like graphic design but it's still cutthroat and your portfolio and connections rule all.

Zrek And that is why I waited several years and worked instead before starting college

This is just my personal opinion as someone who did BFA graphic design/visual arts in college and has a lot of art friends. If you're going for studio art like painting or sculpture and you want that to be your career, you have to be incredibly driven, incredibly talented, and incredibly well connected

And I keep getting told to just choose my next step and try something and use it as information, because stressing out isn't doing me any good, but I still feel afraid I'm wasting time doing something I might hate. I don't wanna fail for something I hate, I'd rather fail for something I like.
