There's a special place in hell for people who start babies too hard, too young, and break them down mentally and physically, in the name of making an extra buck
MellowMares
12:34:29
exactly, plus sometimes less is more with training
The Old Gods
12:33:03 Void Malign
definitely need consistency. Most of the time, they're still babies and need time to mentally/physically recover.

spring,
urgh i hate it , makes it so much harder to re train them after because all they know is stress after an experience like that . dont get me wrong, you absolutely can get alot of training done in 30-60 days, but flooding doesnt stick long term. my mare had a year off and i was able to hop on her bb in a halter in the field on a super cold windy winter day and she did great xD

Mellow,
That's kinda similar to how my filly was 'started', minus the tranq. We got her from horse traders and they just roped her, saddled her, and rode her. I've had her coming 2 months and I'm just starting to sack her out with a saddle pad, and shes still terrified until I get it on her. She's also got some weird thing about touching her ears that obviously happened with them.

another one (reg stables, not an advertised training or selling farm) sold a dead lame horse as a trail horse but buted the crap out of the poor mare before the guy showed up for the viewing :')
MellowMares
12:26:04
ouff yea some of the colt starting places are horrible.. worked for one that would tranq some of the colts to make it easier to saddle instead of just doing the proper ground work :(( didnt work their long lol
The Old Gods
12:22:25 Void Malign
Not sure it was even hobble training, since the place advertised themselves as a colt starting service

spring , he follows me on insta, and ii just about threw my phone when i seen the notification xD

hobble training can be super beneficial WHEN done right, but i also dont think every horse needs to have that training,

Sunset River Arabian

oof my old instructor used to do that. I never understood the point of why she did it. The horse was perfectly fine beforehand and than it was 'we're going to try something new today'
The Old Gods
12:18:12 Void Malign
Yeah, horse wasn't used to it, per mom, and was pretty much just spinning around and trying to kick. Tip of the horse's hoof is probably a good foot off the gound
MellowMares
12:17:45
oh i love monty roberts!! he had a really tough time when he was first coming out with his traning publicly, lots of back lash from other cowboys and even threats .. if only they knew hed be training the queens horses years later xD

Void,
that's how a lot of people (at least where I am) teach horse to pick up their hooves, since they don't want to get hurt. I don't agree with it very much though, because that's what some horse traders did with my current filly and now she just bangs her hooves up for me to clean them :/

I understand hobbies, but that could train if done right. But the horse has to be used to things before just doing that

tangler i didn't know if it would be more alex-y to go on the town trip and the rena walk or if it would be better for him to decline her offer, kick himself, then wait up to talk to her when she got back, so i left that totally open for you.

Female and male,

I know we've chatted via PM, but welcome :) I've got a post up on page 246 involving Nathan - no rush to reply in the slightest, but I wasn't sure whether you saw it or not.

New characters are always exciting Rishy. There's like a smell of promise whenever I see the Sign-up post count increase by one. And the mini plot thingy-majig with Vik, I need to figure something out with you. And then, maybe Tangle as well for the wider impact on the centre.

No worries Rishy. We'll come up with the town travel plan. A brief visit to the supermarket, a tavern, a visit to the park. Tangle, would you like to do a head start with Alex or should I with Reggie?

Either sounds good - if you want to post now, go right ahead.
