Vance Winehouse
༶ ༶ ༶ ༶ ༶ ༶ ༶
Full Name: Vance Layne Winehous
Nickname/Barn Name: Vance
Age: 29 Years Old
Gender: Male/Masculine
Sexuality: Unlabeled - He's had many lovers throughout the years, and decided that he doesn't have a preference. Who he ends up with will depend on whether he finds them appealing; he doesn't have a label for that.
Pronouns: He/Him
Team Affiliation: SL - Silver Lances
Team Role: Competitive Rider
Riding Experience Level: Advanced
Primary Discipline: Eventing & Flatwork
Secondary Discipline: Cross Country, probably. But he does an all-rounder, so there isn't a definite second he works on most.
Reputation at Silverwood:
With the little time he's spent riding for the estate, he hasn't gained too much of a reputation. He hasn't really tried to either. Vance is a quieter man, but unmistakably determined in his work ethic. Also working part-time as a stable hand for extra cash throughout the year, he's often seen tidying up stalls and sheds. His "reputation" is up for interpretation, I suppose. He obviously must have caught the SL Team Head's eye for some reason; that reason is something most will need to figure out by themselves.
Thoughts on the Opposing Team:
He hasn't spoken outwardly about his views for them, as Vance isn't particularly one for gossip or trash-talking equals. Really, he thinks as they think of most - indifference. Hes not concerned about them, doesn't see them as an obstacle or anything higher than human. He doesn't praise them either. To him, they're just an "Eh," and a shoulder shrug.

Appearance:
Vance is tall, standing around 6’2” (188 cm), with a strong, athletic build shaped by years of riding and barn work. His shoulders are broad and muscular, his torso lean but powerful, and his arms and legs long and well-defined. His hands are calloused and strong from hours of grooming, riding, and handling horses. His face is ruggedly handsome, with high cheekbones, a straight nose, and a defined jawline. He has a few faint acne scars from his teen years, subtle marks that hint at his younger self. His skin is lightly tanned from time outdoors, warm and even in tone. His eyes are dark and steady, often serious, framed by thick brows. Vance’s hair is thick, slightly wavy, and chestnut brown with natural highlights from the sun. It has a soft texture but enough volume to fall loosely over his forehead or be brushed back when he’s working. Even in simple barn clothes, he looks put together: his boots are worn but clean, his hands skilled, and his movements precise from years of training.
Personality:
Vance has a quiet, serious presence that immediately draws attention, even if he doesn’t try. His natural resting face tends to look stern or unimpressed, which gives him a reputation for being intimidating before anyone really knows him. He can be blunt and a little rude at times, not because he’s mean, but because he values honesty and practicality over small talk or social niceties. He doesn’t waste words on things he considers unnecessary, and he notices everything—the way a horse shifts its weight, the tension in a rider’s hands, or small details others might overlook. He is highly disciplined and studious. Vance likes to learn and observe, whether it’s about horses, riding techniques, or even just how people move and react. He approaches problems methodically, taking notes in his head or practicing repeatedly until he understands something fully. This careful, analytical approach makes him a strong rider and a reliable worker in the barn, but it can also make him appear distant or unapproachable. Despite his serious exterior, he has a quiet loyalty to those who earn his trust. He doesn’t open up easily, but when he does, he shows a dry sense of humor and a protective streak toward the horses and people he respects. He prefers structure and routine, likes to work alone, and dislikes distractions—but he adapts when he has to, especially if it helps him or his horse succeed. Vance doesn’t care for gossip or competition chatter; he judges skill and effort rather than words. He’s patient with horses, firm but fair, and expects the same kind of respect in return. Small things matter to him: a polished boot, a horse’s relaxed breathing, a perfectly balanced jump. These little details reveal a man who is meticulous, observant, and quietly relentless, always working toward mastery without needing anyone to notice.
Strengths & Weaknesses:
Vance’s greatest strengths lie in his focus, discipline, and consistency. Physically, he has excellent balance, a steady seat, and precise timing, which make him a reliable and controlled rider, especially in flatwork and eventing. He notices small cues from his horse that others might miss, allowing him to anticipate movements and adjust quickly. Mentally, he is studious, analytical, and patient, able to break down complex problems and approach them methodically. He is independent and self-motivated, willing to put in the hard work without recognition, and he forms strong bonds with horses once trust is established.
His weaknesses stem from some of the same traits that make him strong. His seriousness and RBF can make him come across as distant or rude, which can create social friction or misunderstandings with teammates. He tends to overthink or overanalyze situations, which can slow decision-making under pressure. Physically, he can sometimes be rigid in his posture or hesitant to try flashy moves, preferring caution over risk. Mentally, he can struggle with adaptability in chaotic situations, and he doesn’t naturally thrive in group training or noisy environments, which can make him appear withdrawn or uncooperative.
Events + Championships They're Working Towards:
Duca delle Leggende: Spring Combined Test & End-Of-Season Finals
Preferred Training Style: He does have a preference to train independently, for both his own comfort and his stallions. Legend can rarely focus in a grouped training session, given his status and youth, so Vance will often take up half of the arena to ensure the safety of others and their horses.
Backstory/Riding History:
Vance grew up in a very strict home. His parents had high expectations and ran the household with rigid rules—mistakes were punished, and free time was almost nonexistent. From a young age, he learned discipline and responsibility, but he also learned to find quiet ways to escape. Riding became that escape. The stable was a place where he could focus, make his own choices, and earn trust from the horses he cared for. He started working in local barns as a kid, doing chores, feeding, and cleaning stalls. It wasn’t easy, but he loved being around horses and learned a lot about patience and care. As a teen, he started competing in local eventing competitions. He wasn’t flashy, but he was consistent, careful, and determined. Riders and trainers noticed that he had a natural connection with horses and a steady, calm presence. By the time he moved to Silverwood, Vance had built solid experience as an all-around rider. He trains mostly on his own, preferring quiet sessions with his stallion, Legend. He doesn’t seek attention, but people notice his focus, skill, and the quiet determination that drives him. At Silverwood, he continues to ride and work in the stables, slowly building his reputation while staying true to his disciplined, independent style.

Barn Name: Legend | Duke
Age: 7 Years Old
Gender: Stallion
Breed/Type: ISH
Assigned Barn & Stall Number: Barn B - Stall #6
Experience Level: Advanced - This said, he is still learning and is decently green.
Primary Discipline: Eventing
Secondary Discipline: Flatwork - In the process of expanding his knowledge.
Appearance: Standing around 16.2 hands, Legend carries himself with quiet strength, his muscular build balanced and athletic rather than heavy. A broad chest flows into strong shoulders and a deep barrel, with smooth muscle visible along his sides and especially through his rounded hindquarters. His neck is thick and well-shaped, arching naturally into a defined wither, and topped with a darker mane that falls easily to one side. His pinto coat is bold but clean, bright white broken by rich dark bay patches that curve across his barrel and hip, giving his body a striking, well-marked look. He has a masculine head with a straight profile, attentive ears, and dark, steady eyes that give him a calm, confident expression. His legs are clean and sturdy with good bone, neat joints, and well-formed hooves that suit his size.
Personality/Temperament: Legend is a competitive stallion who knows his size and isn’t shy about using it. He can be overbearing on the ground, pushing boundaries if handling gets soft, and needs clear, confident management. He isn’t aggressive, just stubborn and heavy-minded, with a tendency to test people. Under saddle, he is focused and driven, thriving in competitive settings. He works best with a quiet but firm rider and is deeply devoted to his own person, showing loyalty once trust is established. He responds to calm authority rather than force, and when locked in, he gives everything to the job. Around mares, he can become more alert and distracted, prone to posturing and forgetting his manners, and requires extra control in these situations. Even then, he remains rideable, very much acting like a stallion who knows what he wants and who he belongs to.
Strengths & Challenges: Legend’s greatest strength is his competitive nature paired with his loyalty to his rider. Once he’s focused, he works with intensity and purpose, giving full effort and staying mentally locked in, especially in high-pressure environments. He’s bold and confident, rarely shaken by new settings, and his physical power backs up his mindset, making him a formidable presence in competition. His challenges come from that same dominance and strength. On the ground, he can be pushy and inclined to test boundaries if handling becomes inconsistent. He’s stubborn once he’s made up his mind and isn’t naturally soft, requiring clear, calm direction to stay respectful and balanced. Around mares, he becomes more distracted and reactive, needing extra management to keep his attention.
Health/Maintenance Notes: Hes young and in his prime, theres nothing too stern to go into his daily routine - though turnout should be kept singular or limited timed when other equines are around.
Turnout Type: Individual
Relationship With Rider: Vance and Legend were placed together a few months ago, as the stallion's previous owner had gotten too old to care for him any longer. They've been through heaps and barrels together in this short time, mostly emotionally, as the stallion likes to give the man a scare once in a while. They are decently content and willing to grow together.
