stella - yeah lots of them do that to be honest, but it is still a very sweet gesture.

What's your guys consultation fee? The vets I use is £43-£45 but another vet who specialise in small animals costs about £50-55

100% when one of my pets had to be put down, they sent a card out. After the bill had been paid lol but I still found it very sweet
Gaelic Gladiacres
06:19:33 Gladius
I agree, yeah! I appreciate when they do that, really just makes sense in my opinion
Cloud Peak Stables
06:18:59 Cloud
Yes, for sure. My closest vet charges $200 up front if you bring the animal TO THEM and then that amount is taken from the total at the end. I think that's completely fair given that they pretty much have to triage emergencies all day every day.
Gaelic Gladiacres
06:16:21 Gladius
all that to say... lol if you've got a good vet, tell them how much you appreciate them. it makes all the crap worth it!
Gaelic Gladiacres
06:15:24 Gladius
yeah definitely
BlackRose
06:15:05 Stella
Oh definitely, the call outs aren't mega expensive but that on top of all the treatment etc does add up lol! I do believe places like America etc overall would be a bit more expensive than UK
Cloud Peak Stables
06:14:11 Cloud
That's a great deal for a call out fee.
Gaelic Gladiacres
06:13:59 Gladius
stella - that feels so inexpensive compared to over here lmao oof

cloud - uuuugh yeah. my mom has all kinds of horror stories...
Cloud Peak Stables

And that's all on top of dealing with pet owners...
BlackRose
06:13:02 Stella
That's definitely understandable, I don't own horses but I did look after and care for some and their vet bills weren't cheap, the call out fee was about £50 maybe a little more.
Gaelic Gladiacres
06:12:23 Gladius
and then there's insurance and supplies, equipment upgrades, payment and record systems... like it's no wonder the small practices of yesterday have been snapped up by corporations, they're the only ones with the power to actually keep the damn thing afloat
Gaelic Gladiacres
06:11:42 Gladius
yeah - they've basically got "house call" baked in, their equipment for the most part has to be mobile, there're more years of education to get through, the clientele is generally smaller (although *some are wealthy, which can help but), and the hours are crazy. and that's not counting if you work at a hospital, which would necessitate huge amounts of space and lots of capital to start in the first place (even if you just join staff not own the place)
Cloud Peak Stables
06:11:34 Cloud
Yeah, it's too bad. I don't like getting the bill but I understand why they charge what they do.
BlackRose
06:10:29 Stella
Normal vets are expensive but horse vets are way more expensive if I'm correct?
Gaelic Gladiacres
06:10:14 Gladius
cloud - yeah, you're absolutely right. the industry is basically in crisis at the moment, especially for rural and large animal vets
Cloud Peak Stables
06:07:42 Cloud
I never like when I have to take an animal to the vet, but in my area of the US, I'm just thankful we have a vet at all. It's not an easy career and they don't typically make that much money. I think there's a good deal of burnout in the industry because of that.

Scarred Thorn

Scar smiled wryly, having guessed it would work. Sometimes he actually did use the brain he was gifted. Sometimes he ignored the warnings it screamed. Aaaand sometimes it just got turned off altogether. "I am very full of wisdom today, thanks for noticing." He chuckled slightly, trying not to wince as the motion again jarred his body. Even his bones hurt. He felt like he was 16 years old. This HAD to end someday. "Mr. What? Grasshopper?" He paused. "They taste bad but are great for protein..." He finished with a muse, shaking his head slightly. "calling me names won't make me stay still, doc." Scar snorted, but he didn't move as Vindaria went to patch him up even more.

Vinda chuckled slightly again, then snorted at his rather random knowledge. "Well now, I wouldn't know, i've avoided eating insects unless absolutely necessary" she said, then gave another snort. "Well you tell me what will make you stay still, and i'll apply that instead" she said as she got to work with a slight soft laugh, although she swiftly sobered as she began gently pulling the cobweb from his shoulder, moving off the old dried herbs and swiftly beginning to apply new ones before pressing the cobweb down, trying to work fast and light so as to cause him the least amount of pain as possible.

"Of course I wouldn't eat them unless absolutely necessary EITHER, but I'm not invincible and it's hard to hunt when you're hurt." Scar snorted in response. Honestly grasshoppers weren't even the worst protein filled thing. Worms had much more protein. Blech. He shook his head a little at the thought, wincing as the cobweb got pulled off. "I'll stay on my own thank you very much. You held up your end of the deal, so I'll hold up mine." He answered, turning his head as Frostbite entered. "I'm glad the hunt worked out. Surprising you brought a deer down by yourself, and dragged it back. You should probably ask for a little backup next time. Thank you." Scar said, sounding a little more formal when he was talking now, instead of the joking tone he usually held.

Vindaria
Female/Protector

Vinda had to chuckle slightly at his indignant words, but she nodded. That made sense. She herself had never gone that low, there had always been mice and squirrels and birds if she couldn't get rabbits or deer. But to each their own, Scar had surely been wounded a lot more often than she! She snorted at his words, then continued her work. A voice at the entrance startled her slightly and she paused, turning and giving a slight nod to the female, staying silent as Scar spoke to her, waiting for the female to leave. Although it was good she had brought a deer in... perhaps she could coax Scar to eat some, although that would probably be another battle. She gave a slight sigh to herself, swishing her tail as she waited. First, she had to change the much more delicate dressing on his leg and face, and she wasn't about to do it with another wolf there. She could feel the formality that Scar immediately put on with her, and guessed he wouldn't like to have her gawking at his wounds.

Scarred Thorm

Alpha Male

As frostbite left Scar relaxed a little, turning back to Vinda and lowering his head slightly. "What, no comments about how I should eat deer that someone else caught? Or that I moved my head and that was considered moving?" He asked with a wry smile, snorting a little. He was definitely trying.. to be more open, if that's what you could call that, but still thoughts pricked at his mind. No one but Frostbite, who didn't know him and was rather emotionless, and Vindaria had seen his stupid eye, which meant there still could be some horrifying and horrifed reactions.

Vinda sat as she waited for the female to leave, and when she did, she got to her paws again, about to move to Scar and begin work on his leg, when he spoke. She snorted at his words, a slight smile slipping onto her muzzle. "Mr. Mind reader" was all she said in a teasing tone, a twinkle in her eyes as she turned to grab yet another cobweb, of which thankfully Iris had brought a plentiful supply of last night. "Now do stay still once more, and no more snarky remarks from you, I have to focus on this leg!" she said with a slightly firm look at him before turning her attention to his leg.

"ha. You wish." Scar snorted at her words, turning his head more than normal to keep his one.. working eye on her. "I'm going to look like a mummy if you use many more cobwebs. On that note, after this, I am standing and you can't stop me. I need to at least lay outside instead of being cooped up in cobwebby den." Scar stated firmly, just as firmly as Vindaria. He tensed a little as she went to repatch his leg, wincing at the pain that coursed through it. His flank was a dull hurt that was always there, but his leg sent sharp stabs of pain through him.

Vinda looked over with a snort at him, then frowned, about to debate the firm statement, then pausing. Hmm that could be a useful motivator... and deals seemed to be working today. Swiftly finishing with his leg, and wincing herself as she saw him react the same way, she finally spoke as the last cobweb was placed. "Here's another deal for you... I'll let you get up and move outside, if you eat some of that deer that that wolf brought in. Just one leg." she said, her gaze firm and unmoving on the subject.
