Raina looked around, her tail tucked. "what was happening?" she thought looking around at the team.. Edited at February 27, 2024 06:51 PM by NorthStar Estates

Denali felt her body finally relax and she shook herself from head to tail, her jet-black fur shaking violently. She looked around for June, waiting for her long conversation she would inevitably have, the musher might even kick her from the team if he found out she started the fight which resulted in wounds on all three dogs.

Cypress glanced at Denali, then Tiger, before retreating back towards a more solituded area to start cleaning his wounds with a wince. He knew that this would not earn a good rap, but he was sick of Tiger being a baby. The male just needed to grow up. He might get kicked off the team, but it wasn't like anyone liked him anyway... he barely knew anyone, and he had just joined. A new dog was just what they didn't want. They'd probaby be happy if he was gone. Cypress let out a small whine of pain at a particularily painful spot, shaking his head.

Denali shrugged when Cypress ignored her question, figuring he probably wanted to chill out on his own. Denali went to stand but collapsed with a yelp, feeling the two snapped ends in her leg crunching against each other. I'm as good as meat now, she thought, a sled dog with a broken leg is useless... She sat for a minute or two thinking hard, eventually putting her head down and letting a tear fall down her soft muzzle, quickly licking it up. She turned to inspect her leg and discovered, under the dense blanket of fur that some of the bone had splintered out and her leg was bloody. She felt sick just looking at how gruesome it was, and decided to look for other wounds. She found some minor slashes that would heal in a week or two, If I don't get discarded by then, she thought sharply. She tried shifting her weight as she was laying, but the weight on her leg made her dizzy and light-headed. She eventually gave up and just lay patiently.

(Whoops, didn't see the question) +++ Cypress glanced over as Denali asked if her wanted help, shaking his head no. He'd be better on his own. A little while later he glanced over at the female, surprised and horrified to see she had broken her leg. That usually didn't happen in fighting- especially small scats! Cypress stood and quickly limped over, his face framed with concern, his light blue eye shining. "Do you need help with that?" He asked, not really as a question but as a statement. He had broken his leg while running in Russia, and that had completely ended his career. They sent him to Europe, then across the ocean to Canada, then across Canada to Alaska where he was finally able to run again. He shook his pelt with concern and worry, looking for any moss or water around.

"Oh hey, thanks I dunno... I'm screwed aren't I?" She said with her head down, eventually glancing up, her soft amber eyes laced with pain. She shuffled so her leg would be more visible, wincing at the movement. Denali looked around at the team, her heart swelling painfully at the memories woven with each of them, the thought that she could never see them again was almost more painful than her broken leg. She wetted her nose and sighed a big doggy sigh, feeling ashamed for starting the fight, Cypress and Tiger might not have even fought or been hurt if it weren't for me, she thought sadly, and what hurt was it was probably true.

Cypress shook his head firmly. "You can recover from a broken leg. I did, and I'm right here and still running." He stated, not mentioning the fact it took months of being shipped around and not wanted. He glanced at the other dogs before walking into the brush, sniffing around for a second before finding a stream. He then looked on the rocks, where there was moss, and grabbed it with his teeth. After that he dipped it in the stream and walked back to Denali. "Sorry if it hurts." He mumbled through the moss, dabbing it on her wound and wiping away most of the blood. "The musher will have to handle most of this, but I can get something to help." He stated, limping back off quickly again. Sniffing around once more, his nose twitching, he smelled the familiar scent of poppyseed. Grabbing the plant in his jaws, he went back as quickly as possible. "Eat this.. it'll make you sleepy but it'll also numb the pain a great deal." Cypress instructed, his tail twitching in concern.

Denali winced a little as he rubbed the moss, then gratefully took the poppyseed from him and started attempting to eat it; she had never eaten a plant before, only meat and kibble, and it took her a few seconds to chew thoroughly. She looked up at Cypress with genuinely thankful eyes, "Thanks, I'm glad you did recover, you're a good addition to our team" she said kindly, "Can I do anything to repay you? You are so helpful haha, and you helped with the thorn as well. You can have half of my meals if you like since I won't be as active"

Cypress was glad Denali did not look disgusted at the plant- yes, he guessed most normal dogs didn't eat plants, but he had learned to do whatever it took to heal up after a wound. In Russia you ran or you.. well.. were thrown out. There was no need for you anymore. He got very, very lucky. At her words he flicked an ear in surprise, the tip of his tail twitching. "And thank you, and the team, for accepting me." He answered with a respectful dip of his head. "No, of course not. You should eat your full rations. Also, I'm quite small for a male wolfdog sooo.. I don't eat much in the first place." Cypress smiled wryly. "You can repay me by resting and letting the leg heal a little." He added, standing and walking a couple feet away before laying down with a slight wince at his own wounds.

Denali smiled and gave him a few tail wags, watching as he walked away, then turned her attention to her other wounds, licking them clean and picking dirt out of them. She eventually felt exhausted and quickly fell into a deep, peaceful sleep. One ear up and one ear flopped to the side, her tail tucked around her; she slept for the rest of the afternoon.
