Raina was the last to wake and the last to eat her long fur puffed up when she shook looking around the yard with a content yawn as she wagged her long tail looking around at the other dogs. Though she was brand new this was home. Still bits of her dream stuck to her mind running her second race with these dogs , her family? Yes, her family. The snow flying from her paws, the barks and howls from her teammates as they crossed the finish line, the pets and praises from their master. *** She ran alone through the yard wondering how the others were doing on this beautiful morning, still too shy and “too new” to want to engage in conversation with anyone. But nonetheless she wished to gain new friends. She looked around finding June letting out a squeal like whimper "Good morning ma'am! very sorry I over slept..." Then looking at spirit wagging her tail rapidly. "Good morning!!" Raina shook away her last kiss of sleep. "June which female do you think master will breed this year? I hope it will be Gabby, she loves pups." Raina's voice was tiny and quiet. Edited at November 12, 2023 12:55 AM by CountryRange Roses

June greeted Raina with a lick on her face. Raina was one of Junes favorites as she greatly enjoyed mentoring her. Losing her pups at a young age left a great void in June's life so she took great joy in caring for the youngest of their team. Sitting on the ground near Raina, her tail thumping quietly on the ground she shook that time in her life from her mind. Hearing the opening of the front door she turned her head to look behind her. Their musher was now coming out of the house with their harnesses in hand. “That’s totally fine Raina” she said looking back at the red and white dog. “All young dogs need their rest if they are to perform well.” Standing up she stretched her large body. “And I agree I think it should be Gabby, she would be a great mother and if one of her pups show promise they could grow up and be part of the team.” Turning back to where the musher stood on the porch she barked at the team to line up from lead dog to last wheel dog in front of the musher. (June, Bellamy, Sky, Raina, Oscar, Denali, Mz, Gabby and Spirit). Once the whole team was lined up the musher put on their color coordinated harnesses. (Junes was a baby blue color).

Noticing that it was time for the dogs to be harnessed for their first off season training session, Bellamy wilfully trotted over to his spot behind June and next to Sky. "Morning Sky, ready for some exercise?" his tail wagged, and he nudged the husky beside him in an affectionate manner. He wasn't the most friendly or upbeat dog of the pack, but he had a special affinity towards Sky – she was his partner swing dog, after all. The musher made his way through the team, slipping the dogs into their harnesses with ease. They had done this a million times, and by now they had known how to sit politely while they were being hooked in. Bellamy's harness was a tactical tan colour that complimented his brutish look.

Mz growled and walked towards the other dogs, he blinked slowly, "hey, why are we doing this? Isn't it off season? I wanna sleep." He said, as the musher put a dark purple harness on him.

Raina's harness was the same light pink as her collar. Her tail wagged as the musher gave her an extra scratch behind her ear. She was one of the pups from the breeding program of a diffrent team but being the runt of the litter was sold off. "Do you think we have to swim this year?" Raina whimpered looking at June. Her mismatch eyes always had a twinkle of admration when she looked up to june. *** Raina looked at Mz and gave a small cheery chirp bark. "Good morning sir!" Mz looked up, "morning Raina" he said, shaking his body, Mz looked over at Raina, "what makes you so cheery this fine morning? It's about to rain"

Mz looked at Raina with a weird expression, "I guess that makes sense" he said, thinking of her name and how it held the word 'rain' in it, Mz looked around the other dogs and didn't think to talk to them, he looked down at the ground below him and snuffed around

She looked down and tucked her tail. Looking around as the Musher harnessed the dogs. Her eyes scaned the landscape and locked on a doe and her fawn off in the distance and her tail thumped the ground as the deer hopped away with a buck in tow.

Sky was beyond happy when the musher finally called them to line up. She leapt into place beside Bellamy and Raina. "Yes, I'm ready." Sky replied to Bellamy. "What about you? Are you ready for some easy-going pulling? I know I am." She wasn't sure what to think of Bellamy, but if he could talk to her, she could talk to him. ~ Sky was ready when the musher got to her and slipped on her harness. Hers was a pale green, the color of light grass. She liked it because it was the color of her eyes. Once the musher had secured her harness she turned back to Bellamy. "How did you sleep?" She yipped, ready for the run that was soon to come.
