"Somethin tells me you're not being serious" Matt smiled, only taking a couple of sips before then settling his drink down, smiling as her hand reached his hair. He let her play with it as they stood there, sliding his hands gently around her lower. waist, giving her. playful smile. "Seriously though?" he asked, letting his hand slowly stroke her hair as he moved it upwards from her waist. Edited at November 13, 2023 09:27 AM by Wayside Wilds

"Me? Not serious? I have no idea what would give you that impression." Trixie teased, settling closer to him as his hands made their way around her waist. "I don't know what you mean. I was being completely serious." She said sarcastically, pulling him into a gentle kiss.

Matt nodded, looking Trixie in the eye with a small smile. It had only taken a matter of seconds to forget they were actually at a party, and not just planted in a random room somewhere. He liked it better that way. As she pulled him in for a kiss he complied, pressing his lips gently onto hers, and keeping his hands softly on her waist as usual. He pulled back to sit himself down, pulling her down next to him, blinking off the slightly blurry vision. "I know this may seem random, and I know you asked me this earlier, but do you see this actually..going anywhere?" he asked, his tone not as cheery as it had been, though it wasn't negative. Just neutral. "With your ex reappearing I just think you could be thinking differently that's all" he added absentmindedly, staring at the wall in thought.

Trixie settled her palm on the back of his head as he reciprocated her kiss, smiling at him when he pulled away. She sat next to him easily, wrapping her arms around him instead. She blinked at the question, settling close to him with a small sigh. "Why does it matter? If you're not in the market to date, then we won't date. It doesn't matter what I think." She shrugged, but her tone of voice wasn't accusatory or snappy. Just blunt. She shook her head at his second comment. "No, that doesn't change anything with you." She said simply, settling her head on his shoulder.

Matt looked at Trixie, the slightest bit hurt at her comment. He hadn't been thinking entirely straight answering the question earlier, plus he'd panicked because it had been dumped on him. There was no room to exactly say if he meant what he had said earlier now. "Right, yeah. Sorry" he said bluntly, rubbing his leg with the palm of his hand for a couple of seconds. "If you say so." he replied, looking up at Trixie for just a couple seconds, debating whether to continue the conversation or not. In the end, he decided not to purely for fear of blurting out something completely unnecessary. "I might head home soon, have work to do" he said, his words coming out through a fresh exhale in an attempt to hide the blunt tone that seemed to have settled on his tongue.

Trixie looked up at him, panicking slightly. "No, no. Don't be sorry. I just mean- I mean, I do, think this might- its just that if you're not interested in a relationship I don't want to pressure you into one." She eventually spat out, swallowing afterwards and then clearing her throat. She lifted her head at his last comment, frowning. "If you have to, then yeah. I was kind of hoping we could spend a little more time together- it's barely been an hour." She suggested quietly, shuffling slightly.

Matt shook his head, running his tongue along the inside of his bottom lip in a weak attempt to stop himself from biting back with something harsh, purely out of defense. "You haven't entirely given me much of a choice to say if i even mean what I said earlier. But it's fine, you've got the right end of the stick at least" he sighed, leaning back against the wall. "Yeah I didn't mean i'd leave now. Just maybe soon, before it gets too late." he added, making close to no effort to actually keep the conversation flowing, as his mind was running with thoughts. Did he tell her he was in fact considering a relationship? Did he carry on with the panicked information he had told her and tell Trixie he was never dating again? Or did he keep quiet? In the end, Matt decided it best to leave it until she said something that prompted him to go with either decision.

Trixie struggled to form words in response to his first comment, but she got them out eventually. "If you wanted to, that would be... but I mean, you said- why wouldn't-? nevermind." She shrugged, shaking her head and looking at her feet. Hadn't he said he didn't date? Barely an hour ago, too. Why wouldn't he have meant it, why would he change his mind now? It was all so confusing. "Right. Uhm, anyway, how about those cards?" She asked halfheartedly, offering him a small smile. Edited at November 13, 2023 05:23 PM by Widow Valley Farms

"Trixie, just drop it. I doubt we'll get anywhere with this, it'll take too long to explain" Matt said, offering a small smile in hopes she would see he wasn't too annoyed. After all, he wasn't, just a little tired and well..confused. He took a deep breath and lengthened the smile, leaning forward again, taking a swig of his drink as if that would wash down the conversation they had just had. "Oh so you were serious?" he asked with a smile, swirling the alcohol around inside the bottle, watching as the liquid turned into a small whirlpool before it settled. For some reason, that was an invitation for him to drink again, content with the fact it was, in fact, washing the conversation down.

Trixie nodded faintly at his answer, swallowing. "Right. A conversation for two sober people, huh?" She said sarcastically, but his tone was definitely taken into account. She blew out a breath and reached for her drink as he did, taking a few swings. She smiled at his answer and nodded sarcastically. "Oh, very. Of course, cards could always be symbolic for something else, but, whatever." She mocked, pressing a light kiss to his lips.
