Kin looked like he'd one this a million times, though he probably had. The elven warriors were trained at least somewhat for survival- more so in battle. Among other things, he was very good at making camp, reading maps and conversational understanding in at least four languages, fluent in elven and common. One wasn't doing him any good.

He dug out a small pit a few inches deep and started stacking wood. He reached into his bag and pulled out a striker. The same concept as bashing two rocks, just more efficient, and a pouch of very flammable looking plant fibers. The fire came up quickly. It was a very yellow flame.

He marked his side of the fire with a the saddle and a blanket on the ground, rolled up still, and then his bow and quiver. It was getting dark enough he didn't have high hopes to catch something, but he did have some other foodstuffs.

He wandered off, eyeing her quietly as he disappeared into the woods.

Eris simply sat, silent and watching him warily as he went about setting up camp. She wasn't relaxed in the slightest, always keeping her body angled so she was guarding her wounded thigh and internal organs in general. She half glared at him as he moved, her ear flicking occasionally at random woodland sounds, but her eyes never left him. She narrowed her eyes at him as he slid into the woods, lifting her chin slightly.

If she tried to run now, he would expect it- probably catch her before she mounted. No, she would wait until night- he would be expecting it, sure, but perhaps lulled. More of an element of surprise, especially when she could meld the curtain of darkness to his eyes and shield her for at least a minute's head start.

Her ears flicked again, and she glared into the woods, hands clenched into fists as she took in her surroundings for the millionth time.

Kin finally had peace out alone in the woods, stealthily slithering around out there. He half expected her to be gone by the time he returned, but there she sat. The rodent in his hand appeared to be headless. He was simply going to skin and gut it. Easy.

He eyed the fae, silence biting at him but he didn't say anything as he pinned the rabbit to a tree with an arrow as if this wasn't weirdly vulgar looking. Curiosity got the better of him. "What is your name?" Kin asked bluntly, taking out the knife he deemed cleanest.

Eris blew out a breath as she waited for her companion to return- she didn't have all that much to do, and she didn't want to risk toying around with shadows when he could see so easily. She was hoping that her shadow wielding wouldn't be known to him- or at least, he wouldn't remember until it was too late.

She ended up staring around at the forest like an uptight little raisin until he came back, relaxing slightly when she knew where he was. Her eyes followed him wherever he went, and she found herself longing for city life. There, she'd probably be sitting in some random soldier's lap and having the time of her life. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for her now. If only.

She raised her eyebrows as the elf spoke, narrowing her eyes slightly. "So you can speak. How unfortunate." She purred mockingly, rolling her shoulders back. "But my name is Eris. What's yours, elf?" She answered flatly. It was nice to talk- even with an enemy. She was a social creature, and she didn't exactly like the prospect of going crazy because her companion wouldn't speak to her.

The elf glanced backwards at the voice past the fire. It was dark and he was shadowing his work. But luckily his good eyesight kept him from cutting himself. "I knew it was something like that." He muttered competitively. "Mine is Kindred."

After a beat he asked a second question. "What part of Greenbriar are you from?" As if he would know but maybe he should know?

Eris nodded slowly, licking her lips quietly as she took in the information. Nothing notable that popped out. She blew out a breath, narrowing her eyes at the elf for his question. "The city." She said simply, tilting her head side to side to crack her neck, then moving to do the same with her knuckles.

"From where in Imedal do you hail?" She reciprocated, tilting her head slightly at the elf. Her eyes flicked to his knife quietly. Her eyes were perfectly adjusted to the dark, what with it being her specialty.

Kin's feet shifted slightly, realizing he told a fae his name. He wasn't one for lemming beliefs, in this case about tales of fae's taking your name and you forgetting who you are. Especially considering he still had a name and knew who he was. Of course he couldn't speak for all faes, he must've been slipping.

The city made some sense, he supposed, but their people were a bit different. "I was born a lot closer to Epirus's border." He gestured vaguely east. "I moved around a lot and for the past few decades I've been a soldier." He explained stiffly, feeling old now that he could say decades. Granted.. he was. Young enough to the elves but it sure felt like a long time.

Eris blinked slowly at the elf for his somewhat momentary... confusion? Faint panic? She couldn't tell, but she let it roll off her back as he moved on. She raised her eyebrows at the year count, tilting her head. He was young, then. Much younger than She had expected- she had been figuring a century, maybe a century and a half. Still extremely young for the expected lifespan of an elf, but it made her feel more level with him. He may well have been a little younger than her.

"How old are you?" She asked, letting the faintest of curious tones shine through her words.

Kin glared down at her. His age? He paused. "I'm not sure. I stopped counting around a hundred fifty I think?" He looked back again, she seemed to be confused about all that blank space. He did know exactly how old he was, he liked the confusion she had though.

"I wasn't always a soldier." He said as he pulled the rabbit down. He snapped a live stick off a tree nearby, stripping the twigs and leaves, to skewer the carcass on. He crouched by the fire and slightly charred the end of it. Putting the animal on it.

"How about you? Or should I not ask this lady her age," He teased inhumorously, while spinning the stick into a hole in the earth so he could go clean his knife and hands off. Using a little water from his canteen to rinse the blade by the edge of their camp.

Eris raised her eyebrows coldly in response to his glare, tilting her head slightly at his age. Well then. She had been right originally, but then the math didn't add up- then again, if he hadn't always been a soldier, she supposed it did. She watched him in silence as he carried on with the rabbit, unsurprised by his camp skills. He was an elf, after all. Most of them seemed to excel at things like this.

She narrowed her eyes at the elf and let out a soft, almost disdainful breath. "I'm 104." She said flatly, stretching out her arms and then her good leg, looking down at her cut thigh with a glare.

"What were you if not a soldier?" She asked, keeping her eyes on his back as he washed his blade off.
