She gave him a small smile, taking in the scenery. She found that Sage always found the most perfect places... the lake, the pond and now this. The glanced back to Sage, taking in his features as the light bounced off them... this place was beautiful, like she had said... and so was Sage. Despite all the scars, nicks and bruises, he was still so... perfect. She had to draw her eyes away for a moment, bringing herself back to reality. She needed to sort herself out, or who knows what would happen. "How did you find this place?" She asked quietly, her voice soft and airy.

Sage shrugged. "I ran away from the house after dad went psycho and killed mom." He sat down on the sandy floor and chuckled. "Seems like forever ago." He tapped the scar over his eye. "That's how I got this one though. It's been with me since I was five. Hard to believe, right?" He glanced over at Anya, who seemed even more beautiful with the light from the stars dancing across her. He had to tear his eyes away and look back over the water so he wouldn't blush again.

Anya gave a small nod before wandering over and sitting down next to him, her shoulder lightly pressing against his. It was almost a comfort thing. She had almost forgotten about that little snippet of his life. Not that his mother had died, or that his father had done it, but she had forgotten he was there... and that he was most likely injured during that. She furrowed her brows as she glanced up at him. "No child should have to see something like that." She murmured quietly, looking over his scar with a frown. "I cant believe someone would be coward enough hurt a child..." she almost whispered, leaning forwards and running her hand through the water, sending ripples in the sky's reflection.

Sage shook his head. "No child should have to see a lot of things that happen here," he murmured. "No one out age either, or any adult for that matter. Seeing some of the things out here will drive anyone insane." He let out a short laugh and shrugged. "You've seen my dad. Seen how he acts, what's he's capable of. The ranks down here are based off of the mother's line. Dad's higher than we are and thinks he can get away with it. And he can." He tapped his chest, under his collar bone where his rank was carved into his skin. "Dad eventually got upset his family was lower than him. He carved the symbol or my rank into my chest with a kitchen knife when I was real young." He looked up at the sky again and shrugged. "My family's always been messed up. It was always just me and Lizzie."

Anya frowned slightly, not exactly sure of what to say. She was just kind of... angry. She was angry for Sage, and everything he had gone through. She didn't want to talk, though. This was getting depressing fast, and she didn't know what to say for a moment. Maybe something reassuring, or spiteful towards his father, but instead, "Shit." Was all she came out with. She didn't want to make this last... this was meant to be fun... a refreshing evening. She sat back a little, flicking a little water his way. She gave a small smile. "Why don't we try and go for a swim? I've gotten better!" She promised with a sligtly more up beat tone.

Sage chuckled and nodded. "Swimming it is." It was much warmer in the cave than it was outside, so they wouldn't freeze. He'd probably have to take his shirt off though, since it couldn't be wet when they left. Anya had seen him shirtless before, he assumed, when he was hurt so it shouldn't be an issue. Although, he doubted she had seen the whip marks on his back. Oh, well. They could have fun despite his scars. She'd already seen how skinny he was so that shouldn't be an issue either. Anya felt a little bad about skipping off the subject of his past... it was probably something she should have talked through with him, but she wanted him to have a good time... and reminiscing on all the bad stuff wouldn't make him want to stay. Maybe that was the main goal for that night, to make him want to live again. She was nothing compared to his sister, but she would try the best She could for him. In truth, Anyas swimming hadn't gotten much better at all... but she could tread water and keep herself afloat without panicking and flailing about now. She had started to squash that fear, and that was all thanks to Sage. She didn't want to get her dress wet though... she'd have to figure that one out quick.

Sage glanced over at Anya. "The waters warm but that dress is going to take forever to dry if you get it wet," he pointed out. He thought for a moment and then grunted. "There's a market with thinner dresses you could wear, or just shorts and a tunic you could throw on. I'll be right back." She shouldn't have to pay for them so he slipped out, stole a dress that should fit her, and slipped back into the cave in less than a minute. He threw the dress at her and pointed to a large rock. "You can change behind that." He took his shirt off and threw it to the side and sat down on the ledge, kicking at the water as he waited.

Anya took the dress cautiously and gave a slight nod in thanks before slipping off behind the rock and swiftly changing her dresses over. It was actually pretty nice, having something light for her to wear. In her own things, it always felt like they were trying to drag her to the ground... it was almost painful. After about a minute, Anya re appeared with a bright grin, wandering up behind Sage, ready to sneak up on him. She had seen him shirtless before... she had seen all his scars and what nots, but she always wandered about the ones on his back. They were so... clean. It made her wander about how they came to be. Something to do with his dad, no doubt. Anya walked slowly up the sand before quietly running the back of her nails up his back and over his shoulders, nearly in a tickly fashion. "Ready?" She asked brightly. Edited at September 2, 2022 07:03 PM by Belle

Sage jumped and squeaked when he felt her hands on his back and then laughed with a nod. He had heard her coming, he just hadn't expected her to do that. "Yeah, yeah, just get in and stop messing with me," he teased her, both of them knowing full well he really didn't mind her teasing. He quite enjoyed it in fact. He slipped into the water feet first and turned around, swimming backwards a bit to let Anya have room to get in.
