Ajax shook his head slightly- he was still not used to the fact he had died. And Mercy had died. Everything still felt so real... it was weird. Following her slowly without a word he looked around, pulling in his wings quickly. His piercing navy blue eyes scanned the place for any sign of anyone and Ajax seemed on high alert.

Mercy lead him down the somewhat dead side street they had emerged onto, turning onto the main road. She gently released his hand, glancing back at him and offering a weak smile. It wasn't very busy on the sidewalk- at all, really- but there was a group of three people walking ahead of them- a woman, a man, and a teenage boy.

Ajax hunched his shoulders slightly, his whole build tense. As his eyes arted around they soaked in every detail, every person, every street sign. Knowing why they were here, for some reason, made him want to go see his old ranch. See how his friend that now owned the ranch was doing... was Wesley even alive anymore? Had he gotten married? Had kids? He MUST be at least 70 now... what would happen to Ajax's ranch after Wesley dies? Had Wesley already died? Ajax shut out the swarming questions as a small family came into view. Tensing his jaw slightly, Ajax for once felt a pang... he wished he had a family that he wanted to see again. It didn't matter now, though. "You have a beautiful family... I'm sure they were all amazing people, like you." He commented in a low tone, his head bowed slightly.

Mercy was too focused on her little family, listening to them chatter and joke with a soft smile. She kept a light hold of Ajax's hand, pausing and pulling him to a stop. "They are. They're better." She nodded quietly, watching them turn right to cross the street. The blonde boy glanced back, doing a double take out of shock when he saw her. She offered a small, bright smile, then turned on her heel to start quickly walking back down the street. Her head was dipped in pain, tears forming in her eyes.

Ajax stopped as Mercy pulled him back, watching the family silently for a moment before turning away with her. As he said, he was terrible with these kinds of things, so he said nothing... but he hoped she knew he was there for what she needed. Not that he could help much. Not making any sound, Ajax closed his eyes a moment, his heart aching for Mercy's hurt. He had no idea what to say or do to make it better, so he pretty much just existed as a useless lump of flesh and bone.

Ajax? Not know how to comfort someone? Whhhhaaaaaaattttt? xD)) Mercy continued walking quickly, rounding the corner despite hearing the frantic, sprinting footsteps and the excited voice. She tugged Ajax into the same alley as before, ducking to the back of it and letting her wings pop out again. She flitted quickly to the top of the building, sitting on her knees and staring at her hands for a few moments. She listened as the voice from below switched from excited to confused, then to underwhelmed.

I know, NO ONE would've guessed THAT LOL)) +++ Ajax followed Mercy, kind of stumbling after her as he tugged, then he looked up, and she was gone. +Too fast too fast+ he thought, pulled out his wings and beating them with a quiet whoosh of air to get up fast enough that he was out of sight. Landing a little ways away from Mercy, he walked over and crouched down next to her. He didn't bother shrinking his wings, one stretching out slightly to cover Mercy. Hey, what could he do. He felt like anything he said would hurt, and it probably would. He never had to bother with comforting someone because no one wanted to be comforted. Ajax never got comforted because his family sucked and by the time he made a tenative *friend* he was an adult and everyone thought that meant they had to be impenetrable.

Mercy simply settled there, staring at her hands and letting a few tears drip from her eyes onto the roof. She listened quietly to the sound of two pairs of footsteps running after the first, shouting, the stench of disappointment thick in the air. She didn't look up when his wing covered her, but she enjoyed the contact. She shifted gently to move closer to him, tucking her wings and curling her arms around him tightly. After, she set her head against his shoulder, crying silently. She didn't want to be seen as weak- but she was hurting.

Ajax as mentally cursing himself for not being better about comforting people. Or angels. He felt mighty unworthy of Mercy's trust right now, and quite unworthy to even be there- all he was doing was sitting like a dead duck and probably hurting more than helping. When Mercy shifted to him, Ajax instinctively wrapped his arms around her protectively, glancing up at the grey sky. He was hurting- hurting for Mercy. He felt her pain. He just didn't know how to heal it.

Mercy cried into his shoulder for about ten minutes, just holding onto him. Eventually, she lifted her head slightly, taking small, gaspy breaths to calm herself down. She brushed at her eyes anxiously, looking at the wet spot on his shirt from her tears. "I'm sorry." She muttered softly, gently tucking her head underneath his chin. She didn't often receive affection like this, and she enjoyed it enough that she would sit there for hours- She also wasn't ready to stop being comforted quite yet.
