Max offered a smile "I've gotten most of it done." She assured him kissing his cheek back "Just got a little bit left to clean up if you could watch Charlie after you shower while I finish up that would be perfect though..." She admitted with a smile "Then I'll shower and make breakfast if you like?" |

Sage nodded and muttered some form of half asleep agreement. He only really got some of what she had said...the main thing was he needed to shower and then take Charlie off her hands. That was all he needed to know. He showered quickly, although it was long enough to wake him up a bit, and when he came out he grabbed Charlie. "I'll bring her out to play in the yard," he told Max and slipped out the door with the girl. |

Max nodded and thanked him reminding him to keep Charlie warm as it was getting nearer and nearer to winter. When Max finally finished cleaning she hopped into the shower and cleaned herself up straightening her hair after so it would be dry quicker before she went to peek at Charlie and Sage the little girl happily trying to eat the leaves that were strewn across their small backyard. |

Charlie definitely kept Sage busy, as the little girl seemed to think every single thing she touched belonged in her mouth. And that was quite obviously not the case. He let her have a bit of freedom, though of course he didn't give her too much, and most definitely didn't give her enough to hurt herself. He scooped her up when a car pulled into the driveway, and he sighed when he noticed Max's parents. "Babe, your parents are here," he called back to her. |

Max couldn't help but laugh "I don't know why she's doing that she's had plenty to eat..." She giggled watching the two of them for a moment before she went to go to make breakfast only to pause and peek out the sliding door that led to the backyard giving a groan "Okay... come on inside then..." She said gently giving him a kiss as he came inside. When she heard the knock at the door she frowned before she headed off to the door to let them in putting her act that she had on yesterday she didn't wanna start something intentionally. |

Sage grunted and slipped inside and sat down on a chair by the island bouncing Charlie in his lap slightly to keep the little one occupied. He'd have to remember to try and stay civil...he wanted jar parents to like him, yes, but more importantly to like her she needed her parents, whether she'd admit it or not. So for them to be rude to her and block her out of their lives....that was big. He really hoped they could all get along, but part of him didn't wasn't to hope for anything. He didn't have the greatest luck with these things. And he couldn't help but think about everything his own parents had done to him...he was definitely on edge, and looked like he was about to murder someone. He wasn't, but he was a scary guy, and he just hoped her parents wouldn't do anything bad. |

Maxine was nervous... she jumped when there was a knock at the door and headed to it taking a breath before she opened the door "Hi mom... hey dad." She cooed offering a smile the two of them nodding in greeting as they stepped inside their judging eyes looking around their home "Please uh make yourselves comfortable... I was just about to make breakfast... uh do you want anything?" She offered "Just coffee... if you have some..." her mother said in a fairly condescending 'if you can afford it' manner. "Uh sure..." Max said before she went to Sage "What would you like for breakfast hun?" She asked. |

Sage eyed the girl, glad that she was trying, and then slid his gaze to her parents and wrinkled his nose slightly at her mother's condescending voice. They weren't poor ....not by a long shot. The house was small, but definitely wasn't missing anything. There was only three of them, and he could add to the house when it if the needed it. But right now it was perfect, and she didn't need to be rude about it. Especially considering his legal work in this world was the military. That alone should say something. If they knew anyway. "Just a water," he told the girl. "I grabbed an apple earlier," he assured her. He had, but he just wasn't hungry for more right then, not when he was worrying about her parents. |

Max nodded and headed into the kitchen to make the coffee and get her husband a glass of water as her parents settled themselves on the couch waiting for their coffee... when it was brought to them they gave a nod and set it on the coffee table to let it cool "So... how did the two of you meet?" Her mother asked "I was on my way to work and he pushed me from out in front of a truck..." Max told them "Ah... being careless as usual..." her mother replied though in that instance she was right... Max was pretty careless back then. "Glad you came along when you did..." Lance said with a nod though he still looked at Sage skeptically "After that the rest just fell into place..." Max said hoping they would accept that and not ask anymore questions "We fell in love and then Charlie came along..." She said looking from her parents to Charlie and Sage offering a loving smile before she turned back to her parents. "I see..." her mother replied "Is that why you married her Sage? Because of Charlie? Don't feel guilty... whilst I agree Charlie is your responsibility because she's your daughter mine should have had more sense in her head... I thought we raised you better then that Maxine..." her mother said shaking her head. "You're kidding me right?" Max hissed "He stayed because he loves me and he loves his daughter!" She snapped she'd heard enough "He married me because he loves me not just because we have a daughter together!" She snapped. "Who are you to tell me how to run my life anyway?" She snapped "You kicked me out when I was 16 because I didn't wanna follow in your footsteps and become a damn doctor!" |

Sage nodded and went along with the conversation, though he did have to grit his teeth when her mother called her careless. She really hadn't been...death had sent that truck her way, and no matter what she did she couldn't have avoided it herself. But he couldn't explain how he knew that so he kept quiet. He did attempt to give her a sort of smile back, though he probably didn't do a very good job...he was tensed up like he was expecting them to jump Max or something. When her mother and Max started arguing about him, though...that was a bit different. And Max was getting frustrated, which really wasn't good. He propped Charlie on his hip and walked over to Max, almost heasitantly, be ause yes she could scare him a little bit when she got mad even if if wasn't directed at him. He put his free hand on her shoulder and squeezed it gently, in a reassuring manner. "Try to take a deep breath Max," he murmured, giving her mother a look that she could take however she wanted, but it meant 'will you stop antagonizing your daughter already?' Though Max was taking things a bit out of proportion, but he didn't want them to fight all over again. |
