2 am?! Holy mackeral- how do you live on that little sleep?! XD
Yesss, I love the slow burn romances much more. I've had rp's where they are friends within two seconds, but the actual romance part is slow, and I've had rp's where they arenn't really even friends, then they are for a day, then it's like they break through a wall and poof they are in a romantic relationship XD. This way is much more interesting. It leaves room for more longer posts))

The grey stud glanced back at Noda, who had fallen quiet again. He wondered if that was just because there was nothing to say, or if it was because he had said something wrong. Was it his last comment? It probably was. Why, though? She had seemed to not like Minnah, so was it something to have to do with that? Why didn't she like Minnah? Was Minnah doing something behind his back? He slowly grew more agitated as he was thinking. Riptide could officially classify himself as a worrywart, and he was rather good at it. His anxiety built slowly, but when he glanced back to see Noda frowning, it burst. "Did- did I say something wrong? Was it about my last comment? I didn't mean it as bluntly as that, I just didn't know what to say- I- I'm not interested in any of the mares in my herd, that's what I meant. Not anything more or anything less." He rambled the slightest bit, knowing he probably said too much, but he couldn't help it. He hated the knowledge that he might've made her unhappy within the first couple HOURS of their trip. What would happen later!? Ripp was really on the fence, in the way of he was trying not to say anything wrong so that Noda didn't push him away. There was already a wall between them, and he didn't want there to be.

He followed her slightly quicker pace, extended his strides, yet they were still slightly sluggish, as he didn't want to go ahead of her at the moment. He was too busy thinking. Would she actually send him back if he did something wrong? Would it be weird if he just tiptoed around his words? Why was he worrying about such trivial things? He huffed quietly, unhappy with how his brain was working at the moment. As water came into view, he gratefully slowed and lowered his muzzle, sucking some of the clear, cold liquid up.

It's not that often that I stay up so late! XD Alright, what is the next stop on this journey of theirs before they get to their destination? Predator encounter? Tresspassing? lmao)
.
Noda almost didnt hear his words as she had trotted off. The water had been a good distraction but she could tell she had made him uncomfortable by cutting the conversation short. He stumbled over his words as he tried to make her understand his intentions. It was kinda cute. Cute? What the hell. Noda stalled as long as she could in the water, drinking until her belly could hold nothing else and she felt as though she would sink to the bottom of the river if she somehow got swept away. Eventually though, she came from the river, regrouping with her companion. "I didn't mean anything by my silence ... just ..." She paused, trying to find the right words. "I think it's a shame to keep yourself detached." She finshed, snorting out a small, breath of air in satisfaction of her choice. "It sucks to be alone, ya know?" Noda smiled birefly at the stallion before stepping forward to keep on the trail. She cast her broad head to the sky, taking in the sun's postion in the sky. It would probably set soon enough and she wondered if this would be a place good as any to rest for the evening. Truthfully, if her body could keep up with her mind, she'd run all night in order to get to their desination faster. However, she was still recovering from her wounds and that just wasn't something possible. "Shall we rest here for the night?" She asked, turning to face Riptide.

(Hmmm... predator encounter!! They're going to either: accidentally get in between a mother bear and her cubs, or get attacked by a pack of wolves))

Riptide tossed his mane in a jittery way, worried. Why was he being so anxious all of a sudden? His brain came up with an answer he didn't want. You want her to like you. She's changed, and you're hoping that means another chance. The truth was brutal, as he had learned over and over. His audits pinned for a second as he thought it over, but he manged to get his expression back to normal, as to not make her uncomfortable. As she started speaking, he lifted his cranium slightly, audits swiveling to listen. They were not what he expected, so he was slightly taken aback. "It does suck to be alone." He mumbled, mostly to himself. That made him think about a whole other array of questions. Why didn't he just move on sooner? Why was he letting himself be miserable? He wasn't a social horse, but he got lonely easily- he wanted at least one horse to talk to at all times, and even with the herd, most of the time he had no one. It was a rather lonely, boring life he had led, and he realized... Noda had cheered it up quite a bit, even if there had been catches. After her memory loss, anyway.

She had stopped abruptly, and was speaking. Ripp halted as well, registering her words a couple seconds after she spoke, a she had been lost in thought. He glanced around, surveying the area. It had some sheltered places, and he could tell if predators were coming... so it'd probably be a good place to stop. "Sure." He then answered, glancing at the sky. It was getting later, and it wouldn't be smart to travel in the dark. He walked off to do a quick perimeter sweep. After seeing nothing, he returned to Noda, although he didn't plan on sleeping much- he was too tense.

You're alright! I am the same way right now, so no worries!)
.
Noda watched as the stallion inspected the area in which they intended to spend the night. He made her feel safe, and not just as a body to protect her. He cared for her, whether he intended to show that through his words or not. Noda couldn't deny that, but she still had reservations about how she felt. She just kept shoving everything she felt down, convincing herself it was for his sake. She thought she had caused enough trouble without pushing for more than answers. And maybe this crusade across the wilderness was just a distraction she could focus on instead, however, that seemed to have backfired when the stallion tagged along and all she now could do was think about him ...
.
The red mare found a small crevice that was too small to really consider a cave, but deemed it suitable for one night. She gathered some moss and other foliage to create some form of bedding to keep them off of the hard ground surface. Noda brought herself to lie down and begin grooming her coat. Though relatively clean, she still was able to work some dirt and leftover paste from around her healing wounds. She found herself beginning to feel restless as the night drew closer, knowing she would need to sleep. She had already evaded sleeping more than an hour over the last two nights, so she knew it would be inevitable. She wondered with Ripp here, if perhaps the nightmares that plagued her would flee in his presence. Or maybe that was the sleep deprevition getting to her. When the stallion had returned, she offered him a small smile. "All clear?" She asked in a slightly joking manner as she laid her head against her side, one audit tipped in his direction.

After Riptide inspected the whole area, he returned to Noda, smiling faintly. "All clear." He confirmed with a small chuckle, the most he dared. Lifting his cranium, he gazed at the setting sun for a second before walking a couple feet away, to the protection of a low hanging pine, and lowering his cranium slightly. Cocking a back hoof, his audits still on high alert, flicking around. As the sun finished setting, the moon rose and lit up the landscape in a silvery glow, making the green grass look almost eerily pale. As the night faded on, his stance slowly became more lax, until he finally couldn't keep awake anymore and dropped off into a dark sleep.

Quickly, the land lit up- but he wasn't in the same place. Figuring out it was a dream, he seemed to be a spectator from the outside, watching himself walk up to none other than Noda. They exchanged a friendly greeting, nuzzled each other, and started talking about the foal on the way. If he felt like he was in his own body, he would've been staring with wide eyes. They were in a sunny spot, near a couple other blurred horses that he couldn't tell who they were. A whispery voice floated through the air. *This could be you... could be, but you're too scared to say anything*

The vision swept away, getting replaced by a cage, metal bars heated to a temperature at which they were turning red and twisting slightly. Under his hooves, molten lava churned, but he didn't sink in. There wasn't a single life source in sight. Again, he was disembodied, watching himself wallow in the lava. He could tell what it was, though. Misery. Memories of things he could've changed. Hate. Regret. All the bad emotions. Especially, most of all, loneliness. Loneliness that overwhelmed everything. That was the source of the heat. Of course. *This is you...* the voice sneered.

He awoke with a jerk, just as a sliver of the sun was peeking above the horizon. He knew dreams were his own consciousness trying to figure out the events of the day. He knew none of it was real... but it was. That was exactly how he felt, every day. Suffocating. However, this trek? Actually doing something useful? It was like he found a key to that cell, and was just wandering down a long hallway, wondering if he'd make it out. Ripp sucked in a deep breath, his audits swiveling, his gaze flitting around to make sure everything was still okay. The morning was still early, so they didn't have to move yet, if Noda wasn't ready.

Sleep. Peaceful, uninterupred sleep ... Noda had known no such thing. It was nearly the identical dream she had every night, except this time ...
.
She woke up in pitch black darkness, the haunting hum vibrating around her. She steadied herself, as if preparing for the jolsting that came just seconds later. Her nostrils filled with the suffocating smoke that seemed to be all around her. The small window illuminated an orange light around her. This was the same dream but ... it was like she was aware of the things around her, able to control what she felt and sensed ... Noda allowed her orbs to adjust in the darkness until she caught something she had never seen before in this dream. She had always been able to hear the rigid and shallow breaths of others around her ... but for the first time, she was able to make an outline of someone just feet away from her. She wasn't alone! "Hello?" Her quiet voice broke the white noise all around her, but there was no answer. Just, every now and then, light flickered and flashed through the small opening and illuminated just enough light that she was able to make out the features of this equine. His body quivered just slightly, but his blue orbs were fixed steady on her, boring holes she swore reached into the depths of her soul. A wave of fear overcame her so fiercely, her body folded back, just as the ground beneath her began to jerk and toss them around, as this nightmare always did. She soon felt her skin on fire and burning ... just as it always did.
.
Noda awoke from her sleep in panic. Her body cold from sweat as she pushed her front hooves deep into the earth before her, leaving her sitting up halfway on her rump. Her eyes blinked in the darkness around her and her panic furthered, thinking she was trapped once again in the nightmare. She immediately begn to feel as though she couldn't breathe; her chest was on fire, just as it had been moments ago, and her breaths were shallow despite her efforts to gasp as deeply as she could. "No, no no-" was all she could mutter as she scrambled to her feet, but losing footing and landing back on the ground. In her mind, it was just the same as slamming into one of the metal walls that stung with intense heat coming from the other side. Believing to still be trapped, she turned her head rapidly, frantic because she was unable to find that equine she swore was lurking around. "St- Stay a- Stay awa-" She couldn't manage her words which made her more scared, if that was even possible. Noda was completely oblivious to the landscape lightening up around her in "the real world" or the familair stallion's presence near by. This was some new kind of nightmare she couldn't bring herself to snap out of.

The grey stallion had quietly walked away from the still sleeping form of Noda, not wanting to disturb her. He patrolled the border again before stopping on a rise, gazing at the peak of the mountains that rose above the forest. That was their destination- where they needed to go to hopefully find Liona and his own dam. He hoped they were both still there, and okay. He also wished he had spent more time with them, but that couldn't be avoided.
Staring out upon the Landscape, it truly was a beautiful sight. The bright emerald grass sparkled with dewdrops of gold as the early morning sun shone down on it all. Green trees rustled quietly in the sweet smelling breeze, and the white capped mountains rose behind it all, high up into the fluffy white clouds that framed a beautiful blue sky. Ripp let out a quiet sigh of contentment. He'd be okay to stay there forever, but a noise awoke him from his dream like haze. His cranium jerked to the side as there was a scuffle of hooves, and he saw the blood bay mare jerking up, her orbs full of terror. Greatly concerned, he cantered over quickly, his audits pinned with worry. "Noda? Noda are you okay?" His words obviously went unheard. At her muttered words of stay awake, his audits pinned even further- he didn't understand. What was happening? Finally, he thrust out his muzzle to her shoulder, nudging it. "Noda, it's just Riptide. Wake up." He said firmly yet quietly, hoping to get through to her. She was obviously in a scared nightmare of sorts, and whether she was asleep or just thought she was didn't matter. He stayed right by her side, not wanting to move, fearing she would freak out and hurt herself moving. He wondered if being close to her would help, or if he should leave- decisions decisions. He let his pelt brush her, hoping it would tug her out of whatever trance she was in.

The stallion's words fell short of her audits, as she was overwhelmed by the world closing in on her, or so it felt. Her brain just couldn't make the connections to prove to her that she was indeed awake and in the real world. That overpowering fear she had felt during her nightmare still possessed her body, and made her overly paranoid. Who was this horse that could make her fear just his presence? She could still see his stale blue orbs stabbing daggers into hers and it made her phsically weak. Her line of vision was blurred, but not just from the tears that escaped them. She was still in the midsts of hyperventilating, on the verge of passing out, when her overly sensitive skin felt the warm touch of the stallion's muzzle. Though a small gesture, it acted as a catalyst in shutting down her brain and the panic attack that had befallen her. Finally, his voice greeted her audits in the gentlest tone that resonated with her. Her amber orbs looked up to his as her pelt tingled under his touch, but she didn't move away or even flush at the realization. Instead rather, she laid her forehead against his stretched neck as she tried to slow her heart rate and breathing. The red mare inhaled his scent and held it for several seconds before she could feel herself calming down. "I'm sorry," she began to whisper. "I don't know what's happening to me." She voice was so quiet and shaky, it was unclear if her words had even been audiable.
.
Feeling more in control of herself, Noda finally brought herself to pull away from Riptide and stand up on all four of her own legs. Her plumage flicked nervously against her flanks as she breathed in deeply. "Thank you," she offered him a small, gentle smile as she turned her head and finally took a look around her at something other than the stallion. The sky above them was now light enough that Noda could get her barings and it made her feel a little better. She kept replaying the nightmare in her head, flinching each time she thought of the strange horse's features. "It was the same nightmare ... but, something was different this time. And it scared me." Her explanation was a rather downplayed expression of her emotions, but how was she to explain that a stranger scared the living daylights out of her? She couldn't even utter a mention of the creature with the emotional and subconcious wounds still open and very raw. "That's never happened before," she sighed, finding his face once more and seeking comfort in his familairity.

A bit of panic was threatening to brush across the studs mind, but he held it back, afraid that if he let it in his emotional state would waver. He didn't understand what was happening, and that made his fear levels spike slightly. He was quite controlling in the way of he wanted everything to be safe, he would patrol places before sleeping, he didn't fall asleep easily, and he tried to understand horse's every emotions. When he couldn't complete a task at hand, he got a little nervous because that meant there was something he didn't know, and in turn, he couldn't help with.
As the mare started to react to his touch, he grew slightly relieved and calmer, understanding something would help. His hooves planted where they were, he stayed near her, waiting for a bigger reaction, hoping he could figure out exactly what went wrong and where. As her still slightly panicked amber orbs flitted to his, he pushed himself even more to remain calm, as there was no reason he should be freaking out. Ripp stayed still as Noda reached out to rest her cranium on his neck, not paying attention to all the other worried thoughts and instead focusing on the problem at hand.
His audits pricked carefully, attentive to catching every word she managed to utter. He slowly blew out a warm breath at her voice, glad she had calmed down enough to attempt to speak.
Lifting his cranium just slightly as she pulled away, he studied her with concern, making about 34 mental notes to ask her what had happened. Of course, she obviously didn't know much, but she knew more than him. As she regained what seemed like full control of herself, he flicked his plumage against his legs and bobbed his head slightly. "Of course.." He replied, acting like he wanted to say more but cutting it short, observing her small, twitchy, flinching movements. What had scared her so much? He remembered, quite plainly, the intense fear in her eyes as he had been coming back. That wasn't normal, nor did many things grant passage to that level of terror. At her quiet words, his audits swiveled to catch every one, his brown orbs darkening slightly as he thought about what she said. He recalled being told about a nightmare, but definitely not the specifics. However, he knew what it felt like to wake up in a lather of sweat because of a nightmare- he just didn't think he had ever been that truly terrified. What horrible things was she seeing, to place her in a state of such panic? This mere thought made him wish he was able to just quiet her mind and let her sleep- sleep without disturbance or blemish. He wished he could save her from whatever monster that lurked the edges of her mind. No wonder she never wanted to sleep. Her sigh reached his distracted audits, and he quickly registered she had spoke- thankfully he caught most of what she said. His gaze grew even more concerned, watching hers, as if trying to figure out why without actually asking. "Are you okay?" Ripp finally spoke, his voice quieter than he intended. He was quite worried, now, about how she was going to make it through the trip if every night was like this. "Has every night been this bad..? Since you woke up from losing your memory? I know you said this hasn't happened before, but .." He trailed off, not sure where he was going. He couldn't help if the monster was in her mind.
