Cassidy left the cave and once she was in the water, she looked back at the waterfall to make sure Sage wasn't near. When the coast was clear, she shifted into her wolf form, groaning quietly while her body morphed into a wolf. After the shift was done, she made her way deeper into the water with her head down to look for any fish. She spotted one large enough to fill her and Sage so she quickly dove her head down, wrapping her jaws around the fish and quickly snapping her head up to toss the fish on land. Cassidy walked out of the water, shaking out her fur and shifting back into her human form. She grabbed the fish and she walked back into the river to head under the waterfall, tossing the fish up which landed right next Sage. She hoisted herself up with a grunt and she looked at Sage with a grin "Dinner is served."

Sage sat up groggily and yawned, shaking his head slightly. "How the heck did you manage that?" Then he shrugged. "Never mind. Gimme that so I can clean it." He could do it quickly and get it in the fire...he knew how to survive in the woods at least. He took the fish from the girl and cutted and skinned it before grabbing a few sticks and making some sort of structure he set over the fire. Then he put the fish meat on it and leaned against the cave wall. There went the last of his energy. Though, he was glad the girl had found the fish...it would feed both of them, probably for two days .... It was pretty big. Edited at September 6, 2022 08:58 AM by NightClan

"My dad used to take me fishing a lot. He even taught me how to fish with just my hands but you have to be patient enough for that and you have to have good throwing arms to toss it onto the bank" she laughed softly and watched Sage clean the scales off of the fish and put it on the fire. Cassidy walked over to Sage and she sat down next to him, putting at least a couple feet of space in between them so she didn't make him nervous. She put her back against the cold cave wall and shivered, goosebumps lining her arms. The cave would work out nice as protection and it would keep any nasty elements out such as harsh wind, rain, and snow when the time would come. It was truly a perfect place for them to live and the town wasn't too far either for them to scavenge in. The river also held quite a lot of fish from what she could tell.

Sage nodded, thoughtfull. "It sounds like your dad was a good guy," he murmured softly. He was silent for a second before looking over at the girl. "What's it like, having a family that...I dunno ... Actually likes you? Wants you around?" He really wanted to know the answer to that question. His own father hated him, had almost killed him on numerous occasions. But he really did want to feel like he belonged somewhere, to have someone that would say he belonged. Maybe say they loved him. It was far fetched, he knew, especially the love part. But he wished it were possible. It didn't even have to be a romantic love....just a friendly love would be fine.

Cassidy glanced at Sage out of the corner of her eye before her eyes turned to the fire when she started to speak. "It's nice. You feel like you belong and knowing someone loves you makes you feel wanted. Happy even" she knew her words might upset Sage since it seemed like he had no one who ever loved him. She turned her head to look at him and she placed her hand on his shoulder "I can't say that I love you like a friend because I barely know you but if we stick together, maybe it will happen" she offered him a smile. "I mean, that's if you want to stick together? I think me and you could make a pretty great team" she took her hand away.

Sage smiled softly at her words. A team. Possibly a friend. "I think that sounds great," he murmured. He turned his eyes to his injured leg and made a face. "Though, I'm not entirely sure why you'd want me, I'm pretty much just a burden right now." And he'd be one for a while...this darn leg wouldn't heal any time soon, he knew that, He might even have a constant limp after it healed, because of how deep it went. And that was if he didn't get it infected and die from that. Out here, infection was just as dangerous as the initial wound. But Sage wasn't going to dwell on that...if this girl, Cass, wanted him, he wasn't going to argue about it, he was going to stick around and try to do what he could to help in the meantime.

She shrugged "An injured leg doesn't bother me and you won't slow me down. This cave will work really well while you heal and there's plenty of fish in the river. We have enough resources here to survive without having to actually search for food but I will have to look for more supplies for your leg." Cassidy sighed "Growing up I lived with a lot of people which meant I helped a lot of people. You don't give up on someone just because of a slight mishap" she explained. "Your leg will heal. Yes it will take time but that doesn't mean you are a burden on me. My momma raised me to be helpful and to care for others, even strangers. If someone treats you kindly then you must do the same for them." Cassidy stood up and she walked over to her backpack to grab the water and she walked back to Sage to hand it to him "When you are healed and fed, me and you can conquer this crappy world" she smiled.

Sage shook his head wordlessly and took the water. He took a few sips, and then chuckled, though it wasn't exactly a happy chuckle per say. "Your mom sounds nice too." He stared into the fire for a moment before setting the water down next to him. "My mom was killed when I was five. My dad was drunk, got mad, and ... Well, you can guess the rest." It was a bad memory, yes, and he still had nightmares about it. But he could deal with it. Talk about it a bit, at least. And if his brain was messed up, Cass deserved to know.
