"Okay, well, you do you." She shrugged and started clearing the floor. She shook her head to herself. If he didn't want to find something else, there wouldn't be a something else. Fresh starts didn't just land at one's feet. "I just know that if I were in your position, I'd leave. Find an adventure, go exploring, whatever it took to make my life better." Saying it out loud made the idea more appealing. Yes, it would mean leaving yet another place, but she knew she'd be on the run probably for the rest of her life. Especially after what she's done. Her fingers brushed the fabric of her coat over the dragon pendent she'd stolen the day before. "A new adventure..." She mumbled under her breath.

Sage thought about that for a second. "I guess it does sound fun," he admitted. He eyed the girl for a moment. "You seem like you've seen your share of adventures," he pointed out. He wondered if leaving would help him at all. Would anywhere else be better than here? Or would prey get more scarce as he went farther away? Leaving did have it's positives, but so did staying.

Madrigal studied her new friend. "I've seen... my fair share..." She trailed off, her mouth turning down at the corners. Emotions coiled in her chest at the memories she forced her mind to block out. Her gaze drifted for a moment, then hardened on the boy. Standing, she said, "We can go together, find more dragons, explore the world. If you don't want to come with me, I will go alone. But from what I've gathered, if you don't come with me, you might be saying goodbye to your only friend in this city." She knew the ultimatum wasn't fair, but it would force him to make a choice; one that he would be responsible for. Either way, he would be making his own choice, and maybe that would be freeing enough for him. Either way, she would be happy for him, and would remain his friend whether he needed her or not.

He raised his eyebrows. "Friend, huh?" He hadn't expected that - he didn't think that would ever happen. And he hadn't been honest with her. "Fine, but if you're going to be my...friend...you need to know that if you're seen with me you'll get labeled as a native sympathizer." Those were seen in a negative light too, although he had never seen or met one. The last one he had heard of was over fifty years ago. He stared at the ground with his brow furrowed when he told her that. He had told anyone, ever, that he was a native. Some of the people in the village knew, because of his father's loud mouth, but they hadn't liked him to begin with. He fully expected the girl to walk out of the cabin and never come back.

Madrigal threw her hands up with a grin. "Aaah, I've been labeled with worse!" She knew of the natives. Knew they were hated and shunned for no good reason. That their history doomed them to a life of persecution. It wasn't Sage's fault; he was who he was. "And yeah, we're friends now," she added in a matter-of-fact tone.

He met her eyes slowly, the shock evident on his face. Yesterday morning, if someone had told him any of these things would have happened, he would never have believed it. He was still reeling from his father's death, and now she was claiming to be his friend. And she didn't care that he was a native. Who was this girl? He suddenly felt very lucky he ran into her in the market. He took a deep breath and looked out the window. "Then where do you want to go first?"

Madrigal picked at her cinnamon hair, curling a few strands of fly-aways around her pointer finger. She walked around the head of the kitchen table, her nails dragging along its surface. Her gaze drifted again, thoughts and ideas rushing through her mind. Memories of old stories told on the road came to the forefront of her mind. She found herself holding the wooden dragon pendant that was looped around her neck. "I've heard stories... they're vague memories- I try to block that time of my life out as best I can. There are legends about the Kildryd mountains... and snow dragons. Snowy Stormcutters with a beautiful mirage of white and silver and grey, like dapples." Madrigal snorted and then shook her head. "I mean, they're only stories..." She shrugged, bending down to pick up a bottle that had rolled under the table.

Sage grinned. "You had me at dragons. If there's anyone who'll find them, it's me." He chuckled lightly, and this time he found he was actually laughing at something instead of justaking a bitter noise. "Speaking their language tends to help with that." He thought for a moment. "But we'll definitely need warmer clothes and, uhm, blankets or something."

I'm at home sick so I just rewatched all of the httyd movies XD Always so good!)) Madrigal grinned right back at Sage. "Ha! I knew I could persuade you," she teased with a sly smile. She nodded as he spoke. "Yeah, warmer clothes, and blankets, definitely. Snow boots... Food. You know what? Okay, Mr MVP, let's create a list of the things we'll need, and we can start to... gather." By that, she meant steal, but she knew he'd get her meaning. Apparently he was quite practiced at it, too. "Just imagine the journey." her face took on a sort of dreamy look. "Walking all day, every day, along tough trails and mountainous terrain. The snow. Trying not to freeze. Gods, this is going to be so painful, but what an experience it will be!"

(Those movies are amazing! I hope you feel better tho!) He snorted out a laugh. "Trying not to freeze. Ah, yes, that's the most fun thing to do in all the land." He pretended to look dreamily into the distance, coping her in a teasing way. "I can't wait." He chuckled and went through a list of things they would need and then frowned. "Well have to carry it all though so we'll have to be careful about it."
