Camery Valatieri - Camery watched for most of the night... well, that was until she physically couldn't stay up any longer. She fell asleep in that chair, and only left for the bathroom the next morning. It continued that way for a good few days. His dreams were awful. These memories were awful. She didn’t know how he was strong enough to make it this long. How he survived his father for so long, and still came away from it all so... good. She had no answers, only endless questions that weighed down on her heart like a stone. The next few days dragged on, each one bleeding into the next, Camery desperately hoping that at some point, he'd wake up. When he did, she didn’t think she’d ever let him out of her arms, or out of her sight. The thought of losing him was too much to bear, but the fear gnawed at her every moment. It seemed as though he'd gained some sort of consciousness in his sleep. Like he could move around himself, interact with his surroundings. Surely... surely that meant something, right? Maybe he was coming back to them, inch by painful inch. Maybe, just maybe, he was fighting his way back from the nightmare. Every small movement, every twitch, made her heart race with hope. But hope, like everything else, was fragile. One evening, though, she was watching intently on a particularly... interesting scene. Well, that was until he fell, then the screen went static. Her heart leapt in her chest, her whole body shaking as she jumped out of the chair, knocking it over as she ran to the bed, almost jumping on Malakai as she tried to wake him up... somehow. She was shaking his shoulders, calling to him, everything... but nothing worked. Her voice cracked, desperation flooding her every word. She didn’t know what it all meant, but she had a feeling it couldn’t be good. Not good at all.

Camery Valatieri - Camery couldn't stop the tears that welled in her eyes as the nurses rushed in, and they fell hard as they pulled her away from him. God, she wanted him to be okay. She wanted nothing more than to see him okay. But now, as the nurses were working on him, shocking his lifeless body in an attempt to wake him up, all she could do was break down. After the last few days, seeing everything he'd seen, everything he'd done... all she wanted to do was cry for him. Hold him tight. She could feel her heart breaking in pieces, splintering into fragments as she watched them fight for his life. Her breathing became uneven the longer the nurses worked on him, gasping for breath as she tried not to completely break down. It felt like the world was falling apart in that one room, her world, the one she had tried so desperately to protect. Eventually, though, the man jolted awake, and the nurses dispersed from him. Her heart caught in her throat, a breath of relief slipping out before she even realized it. Her eyes red and her brows pinched together, she jumped up and rushed to his side, not hesitating to wrap her arms probably a little too hard around his back. "God, Malakai," she whispered, her breath hitching as she held him. She could feel the tension in his body, the tremor of what he had just gone through, but all she could focus on was that he was there, in her arms, alive.

Camery Valatieri - Camery shook her head and buried her nose into his shoulder, quietly sobbing into his shoulder, holding onto him as tight as she could. She still couldn’t believe what he’d gone through. What had happened to him. It made sense that he could be skittish, now. It made sense why he was the way he was, and it hurt her to think of all the pain he’d endured, all the scars that ran deeper than she had ever known. How could he still be so kind? She thought, almost in disbelief. “It’s okay, it doesn’t matter,” she whispered, her voice catching in her throat as she tried to calm herself down, clearly just relieved he was alright. That he was alive. He didn’t need to apologize for anything, not now. She couldn’t bear the thought of him blaming himself for what had happened, not when she saw him so vulnerable, so fragile in her arms. When he told her he loved her, though, she just broke down, her shoulders shaking and her breath catching in her throat, like she couldn’t get a full breath in. It was as if the weight of the world had just crashed down on her all over again, but this time, it was different. This time, it was full of love, and pain, and regret, and relief all at once. She could feel her heart breaking and mending all at the same time. She sat back after a moment, her cheeks still wet with tears, and rested her forehead against his, her hands gently on his cheeks. “Malakai, I’m so sorry,” she whispered to him, closing her eyes tight as she tried to regulate her words. She was trembling, her hands barely able to stay steady on his skin. “I didn’t understand, but I do now,” she whispered in a hurried tone. “I understand and I’m so sorry,” she cried to him, holding him tighter. She hated what he’d been through. Those images flashed through her mind, and she wasn’t even the one in the nightmare. She could escape it, and he couldn’t. He had been trapped there, living it, and all she wanted was to take that pain away. “God, I love you,” she whispered, her voice breaking again. “I love you so much,” she told him, another wave of tears flooding down her cheek. “I’m sorry for pushing you away, for making you feel like that,” she continued, her heart pounding and chest heaving. She clung to him as if she could somehow erase the hurt, as if her love could somehow be enough to heal him. Please let it be enough, she thought desperately, her fingers digging into him as if he would slip away if she let go.

Camery Valatieri - Camery shook her head at him, her brows pinched tightly together. She was sorry. She should have asked more questions, been there for him. She could have tried to understand better. It shouldn't have taken her actually seeing it to worry about him so much. His fingers were sinking deep into her, and it admittedly hurt just a bit, but it wasn't bad. He was holding her. He had the strength to do that. He was alive enough to do that. She held him a little tighter, though rather suddenly his lips were against hers. She didn't fight it. She didn't want to fight it. She wanted to kiss him, to hold him so tight. She wanted to show him just how much she cared about him, how much she loved him. She leaned into him a little, as though she couldn't get any closer. She was clearly disapointed when he pulled away, though his words hit her so hard. Nothing would change it. Just the way nothing could sway how she felt for him. Her fingers traced his jaw for a moment, her breath steadying out. "I don't want to pull away from you... or tell you no, or leave you," she whispered to him, leaning in slightly, so that as she talked her lips brushed softly against his. "I just want you, Kai," she whispered. She'd tried to tell him this before... tried to tell him, that if she could, she'd give him the world. Her gaze trailed down to his lips again, and leaned in, pressing her lips back to his for a short moment. She knew this wasn't the best time for it... not after everything, but she didn't want to hold back, not any more.

Camery Valatieri - Camery looked at him for a moment, her eyes soft. She loved him. And, if he'd still have her, she was all his. It was stupid to start something now, she knew that, but this was what she wanted. She didn't want to push him away anymore. All she wanted now, was to hold him tight and keep him safe. Make sure he felt safe, safe with her. When he leaned into her, kissing her back, she couldn't stop herself from leaning into him, as firmly as she could, her lips gently working against his until he pulled back, just a little, although their lips were still touching lightly. She nodded, humming gently to him. "Fuck I've missed you, Kai," she whispered gently, pressing her lips back to his so softly, her brows pinching tightly together as the scenes from his dream passed through her head. She really thought for a moment there, that he'd chosen to leave her. She couldn't even imagine it now.
