Jora could feel his presence even in his half-conscious state, the way his slow breaths moved against her, the slight warmth of his body pressing against hers. When he stirred, she couldn’t help but smile, even as her heart tightened a little. She wasn’t sure how much he was aware of, but the fact that he was still there, still with them, felt like the greatest gift.
She’d been watching him sleep for a while, letting him rest, letting him heal, knowing he needed this time. But she also couldn’t stop herself from feeling this overwhelming sense of gratitude. She didn’t know if he realized just how much he meant to her, or how much he meant to their little girl, but the fact that he was trying, even in his exhaustion, meant more than words could say.
She leaned in gently, pressing a soft kiss to his forehead, her voice barely a whisper, “I’m right here, Sage. Always.” She knew he couldn’t have heard much of what she'd said when he was drifting off, but she hoped he could feel it—feel how deeply she meant every word, even in moments like these when he was too tired to speak.
And for a fleeting moment, she just watched them both, the weight of everything they’d been through and everything still ahead of them, but also the peace that came with simply being together. It wasn’t perfect, but it was enough.

Sage hadn't been aware of much, but he did know Jora was still there at his side, just like she'd always been. Her steady presence calmed him, reminded him that all of this wasn't jsut some cruel dream. He felt a small smile flicker onto his face when she pressed a kiss to his forehead, the small gesture jsut flooding him with happiness. Gratefulness she was still here, and they could heal together. That was all he wanted...for their family to be able to truely be a family, and to be happy that way.

He missed their island...their home. He wanted to get back out to the ocean. He could barely smell it here, all the way inland, and the sun just didn't seem as warm and strong. It was so busy here too...the hustle and bustle of the roads and taverns and shops....it was loud. A little overwhelming, if he was honest. Their island was peaceful. Simple. A home they could rely on, where they could thrive in their own small place. He couldn't wait to get back there and build their baby girl's crib. To start spoiling her rotten from the get-go.

His thoughts wandered a bit more as he slowly started to wake, shifting slightly as he did so, though staying comfortably nestled against Jora's side, grateful for the warmth she brought. He was pretty much skin and bones now...which meant he was pretty much constantly cold. He got cold easily anyway...which he found really quite annoying..but it was worse now. Blankets could only do so much, he was appreciative of her heat. He was thirsty though, so as he sort of blinked open his eyes and glanced up at Jora he hummed softly. "Did the doctor say no food or water or can we find something," he sort of asked after a moment or so, still pretty tired but determined to eat and drink at least a little something.

Jora’s heart stirred as Sage shifted against her, his warmth seeping into her own skin, grounding her in the moment. She could feel the fragility of him—so thin, so cold. She wished she could do more to help him heal, but she knew he needed time. And, most importantly, he needed *them*—her, their baby, their future, all of it. That thought alone helped ease the weight that had settled on her chest.
She smiled softly as he hummed, so quiet and gentle in his exhaustion. The way his voice carried that mix of wanting and patience—*he wanted to get better*, wanted to be strong for them, and that steadiness always made her feel like they could face anything together. She pressed a soft kiss to his temple, fingers lightly brushing through his hair as she leaned in closer, whispering just loud enough for him to hear, “You’re alright, love. The doctor said nothing too heavy for now, just fluids. But we can find something light, like soup. I’ll make sure it’s exactly what you need.”
She glanced out the window, watching the hustle of the town beyond, then returned her gaze to him, offering a smile that was both reassuring and full of unspoken love. “Soon, we’ll be back home, back where we belong. And we’ll spoil our little one, just like you want. But for now…” she kissed the top of his head again, then rested her cheek against his, “...you need to rest. Let’s get you something to drink first, okay?”
She kept her tone gentle, hoping it would ease any worry he might still feel.

Sage had nodded softly in response to her comments. It made sense he supposed... It wouldn't do him much good to get right up and try to eat a huge meal right away. He'd probably just make himself sick, simply because it had been so long since he'd eaten a decent meal. But soup sounded good... Really anything sounded good at this point, but soup had its perks.

He just melted into her touch when she leaned in, closing his eyes as she kissed him, just soaking it all up. He wasn't sure he'd ever get used to her being here like this.. It was always so wonderful each and every time. The light press of her lips to his skin, the gentle way her fingers moved through his hair.... All of it was just so nice. Always had been. "Alright," he hummed in response to her comments, offering her a smile. It was a tired one, but still, it was a smile.

He shifted to take the baby from her, so she could go and get what he needed a bit easier. Besides, he did love the little one... More then he could ever express in words. It was nice to hold her. So he just nestled her lightly on his chest as he lay there, wrapping his arms snuggly around her, more than happy to rest there with her as he waited for jora to come back.

Jora moved quietly into the kitchen, her steps light and steady. The soft glow of the dimmed lights cast shadows across the countertops, and for a moment, she just stood there, the gentle hum of the house filling the space around her. She let out a soft sigh, as if trying to absorb the stillness before she got to work.
Pulling out the ingredients she’d already set aside, Jora quickly got to work on the soup. It wasn’t anything fancy—just something simple, something warm. She didn't need to overthink it; all she wanted was something that would help Sage feel a bit better, even if just for a little while.
The broth bubbled on the stove, steam curling up and filling the kitchen with a comforting smell. As she stirred, her mind wandered back to Sage. How often had he been like this—exhausted, drained, barely able to find the strength to get through the day? She’d been watching him closely, feeling his weariness in her own bones.
She smiled softly to herself, then checked the soup again, giving it a taste. Perfect.
With a deep breath, she carried the pot back to the bedroom, the warm steam from it curling around her like a comforting cloak. When she entered, she found Sage still cradling the baby against his chest, looking content, peaceful in the moment. It was hard to believe how much had changed in such a short time.
"Soup’s ready," she said softly, setting the bowl on the nightstand and taking a seat next to him, just close enough for her fingers to brush against his hand. "Let’s get you some of this before you drift off to sleep for good."
She gave him a playful look, her voice light, teasing, but there was warmth in her eyes. She just wanted to see him feel better.

Sage had been perfectly happy to just rest there with the baby on his chest, the slight weight and warmth a comforting presence within the quiet room. Hed closed his eyes after a while, not sleeping just resting, letting his skin soak up the sun and his mind relax for a little while. The baby was comfortable, and he was comfortable...so why not?

When he heard Jora come back in, he opened his eyes to glance over at her with a soft chuckle, moving to sit up and lean against the headboard of the bed softly. He moved to take the soup in one hand and offer the baby back to Jora with the other. He didn't want to accidentally spill the hot liquid on her or anything.

His eyes light up when he sipped at the food though.. it had been forever since he'd had a good meal, and even longer since he'd had Joras cooking. That would always be his favorite. There was something about her food that just always made it the best. He couldn't eat it very fast, since it was hot, but he certainly did his best. He slowed down about halfway through the bowl though, humming softly. "You've been with her longer....what name would you pick for her," he asked after a moment, wanting to figure out her name. It seemed odd just calling her the baby. Plus ...well, he was excited.

Jora couldn’t help but smile as she watched Sage settle in with the soup, the way he looked so content made her feel lighter than she had in days. It was nice to see him relaxed, even if only for a little while, especially after everything they’d been through. She carefully took the baby from him, settling the tiny bundle against her chest with practiced ease.
His question made her pause, a thoughtful hum escaping her lips. She had been running through possible names in her head ever since they’d found her, but nothing had felt quite right until now. She glanced down at the baby, whose little face was still soft with sleep, and felt a quiet warmth spread through her. "I think," she started, her voice soft as she stroked the baby's tiny hand, "I’d choose something strong. Something with meaning, but gentle at the same time. What about Lyra? It’s the name of a star constellation—something beautiful and a little rare, like her."
Her eyes met his then, and she gave a small, knowing smile. "But I’m open to hearing what you think. After all, you’ve got just as much say in this." There was a light teasing tone to her voice, but her expression was genuine, waiting for his response.

Sage sort of cocked his head as Jora explained what she was thinking, and he couldn't help but grin about it all. They were naming their child...he'd waited so long for this moment, and he was glad beyond expression it was finally happening. He had though the baby had died, without a name and without anyone ever really knowing her. He wouldn't have even known if his child was a boy or a girl. But they were here, and she was perfect, and he couldn't be happier about it.

"I think that's perfect," he hummed softly, looking over at the baby, a soft smile lingering on his face. "She's just as precious as the constellations," he added. As a sailor, he'd known the constellations well. They guided them through the night, the dark times. Just like his family would be here to guide him through life's darkness times now. It made sense he thought....it all fitted.

Though, after a moment he grunted. "For her middle name...what about Cordelia," he suggested. "It means daughter of the sea....sort of a gesture towards our home and life out on the ships," he added. It wasn't really first name material, he didn't think...but he did like the name, and he liked the thought of naming her a little bit of something to relate back to the ocean.

Jora’s gaze softened as Sage spoke, her heart swelling at the warmth in his voice. She could see it in him—he had been waiting for this moment, too. His words about their daughter, about how she was like the constellations, made her feel a strange kind of peace, like they were on the brink of something bigger than both of them.
She glanced at their baby again, a small, perfect bundle of life between them, and smiled. The way Sage had described her was so fitting. “Constellations…” Jora repeated, almost to herself, as if tasting the word. It made sense. It felt right. "Yes, she’ll be our guiding light, won’t she?"
When Sage mentioned the middle name, Jora’s expression softened even further. *Cordelia.* It was beautiful, and it carried such depth. “Cordelia,” she murmured, letting it roll off her tongue. The meaning behind it hit her in the gut—the sea, their life on it, the way it had shaped them both. She could already picture their daughter, someday standing by the shore, looking out at the endless horizon, and knowing that she came from that vast, timeless place.
“I love it,” Jora said, a smile tugging at her lips. “She’s already a part of the sea. A part of us, too.” She reached out, brushing a finger lightly over the baby’s soft skin. “Lyra Cordelia, it is. Our little daughter of the sea.”

Sage couldn't help but just grin over at the girls beside him, nodding along happily. "She definitely will," he hummed, reaching over to run a soft finger over the baby's cheek. It wasn't enough to wake her or anything...but it was enough to reassure him she was really there. That she had a name. A name as unique and as powerful as she was. Well ...she might not be so powerful as a baby, but she would grow to be the mightiest woman on earth, he knew that already.

"It's prefect," he agreed softly when the name had been decided. "Just like her," he added, smile still lingering on his face as he looked up at jora happily. He hadn't expected to be here...hadnt expected to be able to share this moment with her. He was so unbelievably thankful that he was. He wanted to be involved in her life. To walk with her through all the mountains and valleys. To ride the literal and not literal waves through life. Teach her to fight, to hunt. To sail. To captain a ship grander than any other. Teach her to love. Give her the best of both lives. And most of all, he wanted to protect her. To make sure she never had to suffer like Jora or he had.
