Mari furrowed her eyes softly to the boy before moving to peck his forehead. "I know. Neither of you should have had to go though it," she told him softly. "But he's alright. And you're alright, so just relax, okay hun?" She asked him gently before resting her head just above his. Had he noticed that his vision was off? Or was he expecting it to just come back? She didn't know. She also didn't know how to tell him either way.

Sage had almost drifted off again by the time she spoke up, and he let out a soft sigh, closing his eyes. "But it was my fault," he pointed out softly, not really agreeing with her that he shouldn't have had to go through it. Maybe it was just punishment for killing so many people, or stealing so much, or his work at the tavern...he didn't know, and he was too tired to think about it right then...but surely he deserved at least some of what he'd been through. That's what his father had always said anyway. But he ended up falling back asleep before he could hear how Mari would respond. No doubt she'd disagree, but he just hoped he hadn't upset her too much, because now he was asleep and couldn't apologize for it all.

Mari shook her head quietly. "Oh, Sage, you know it wasn't your fault. There was nothing you could have done. You're both safe now, and that's all that could ever matter," she told him quiely. Sage felt awful for him... she knew his past had a lot to do with his way of thinking. His father had always put him down, telling him he was useless and deserved everything that came his way. And she knew that had effected him hugely... but he truely didn't deserve any of this, and it absolutely was not his fault. She was about to say something else in response, but he was already blacked out... that was fine. They all needed a little bit of rest.

Sage slept well for a while, since he was still pretty drugged up, though as the medicines wore off, he started to get slightly less... comfortable, he supposed. His dreams started getting worse and worse, and then everything sort of just...hurt. A lot. A groaned slightly and opened his eyes, sort of trying to move into a position that hurt slightly less, but that just made it hurt more, so he sort of just stilled, surprised to find that his breathing was ragged and he'd already broken into a cold sweat. Well, that was just great. At least Silas didn't feel as bad as him. And he still couldn't see most of the room, so he looked around in a panic until he noticed Mari there.

Mari eventually found herself drifting off to sleep. She'd gone to check on Silas, who was resting quietly and seemingly happily enough. She went back to Sage to rest, though. She woke up when she felt movement next to her, though, and looked over at Sage who was looking around frantically. "You alright?" She asked quietly as she sat up next to him to get comfortable. He looked panicked. She reached to get him some of his meds... it had been a few hours, so he could have some more, right? That'd be alright? She was sure it'd be all fine.

Sage had calmed down enough when he heard Mari there and craned his head to look over at her. "Yeah," he rasped after a minute, trying to move so he could fully see her face, since she was on the side where he couldn't see anything out of. He winced when he moved, then sunk back down onto his back in defeat when he couldn't hold himself up since the arm was in a sling. "Just couldn't see you," he eventually whispered with a shrug

Mark looked over at the boy after a moment, still waking up before realising that she hadn't actually told Sage about his sight... oh, no wonder he'd been so frantic. She moved to rest on her elbow, kind of hovering over him while her hand went over to stoke the cheek on the side of his face he could actually see on. "Yeah, hun... I'm afraid that's the way it'll be from now on," she started before moving to rest her hand over the right of his eyes. "You really can't see a thing out of it?" She asked softly.

Sage sort of looked over at her when she moved to hover over him a bit. He relaxed though, now that he could see her. He knew she was there, really there...not just a figment of his imagination he'd used to keep himself fighting in the cell he'd been in. He blinked slowly when she said it would stay that way, frowning slightly. "What," he asked before chuckling slightly at her comment and shook his head. "Nope," he hummed. "Can't see anything over from the edge of the painting on the wall," he said pointing to the wall decoration he'd spoke of.

Mari furrowed her brows a little bit when he confirmed he actually couldn't see anything... well, she knew he wouldn't be able to. She knew that the doctor had said he'd torn the nerve, but Sage confirming it just made her feel so sick... they would get used to it, she was sure, but it still made her a bit nervous. "Well, when you were fighting, you were shot... in the head... and the doctor says the bullet torn the optic nerves in your right eye. You won't be able to see out of it anymore," she stated slowly. Her brows furrowed a little before adding. "We're so lucky to have you here still. If it was even a little bit over you'd be gone," she told him quickly.

Sage sort of hummed and nodded when she told him what had happened. He'd figured he'd messed something up....he'd known he'd been shot...but finding out that something like that had actually happened made his stomach churn. He was silent for a minute as he tried to calm the panic rising in his chest. He'd known he'd couldn't see...the bullet had done something...but this somehow made it so much more real, and terrifying. How was he supposed to fight? To defend his family? How was he supposed to work and train the horses? He k, how was he supposed to dress their kids or make dinner? Everything seemed so far out of reach. "yeah," he finally sighed when she added he could have easily died. "I guess I got lucky," he murmured, though he didn't really believe it wholeheartedly.
