Sophia pushed through the crowd and jumped in her car, her body tense as she drove to the hospital. She had tried to see him, but the doctors continued to only let other people in, claimigonly family were allowed in. "Please. I have to see him!" She hit her plan against the counter and laid her head over her hand. "Please" she whispered. The lady at the desk looked terrified. "I'm sorry miss but I can't let you in" Sophia stood and crouched into a chair, her head in her hands. She kept a most of the tears at bay, but some still managed to slip through her eyelids and creep down her cheek. It was midnight when a doctor came out of his room and down the hall. She jumped up and begged him to let her into his room. They were right outside, but she couldn't see Zephyr. "Please. Please Doc... let me go see him. Hold his hand. Talk to him. Please. " the doctor shook his head and stepped away. "I can't. Only family and his coaches. I am deeply sorry. " he started walking away. "If you mean that you would let me in" she sat down on the floor beside the door. She knew she would get in trouble if she went in, so she sat outside and waited. Waited for a sound or her name or something.

The doctor looked at Zephyr. "I truly am sorry." He said before leaving. Zephyr was numb. He didn't know what to feel. He LOVED basketball. It may not have been his life, but it was important to him- SUPER important to him. His whole after school life revolved around Basketball. He let his head sag against his chest, his breathing shallow. His eyes glazed over again. What was he even supposed to do...? He couldn't lift his shoulder above his head now. His life was going to he completely changed now. He heard quiet breathing outside. Zeph took in a slow breath before his brain started functioning again. One person flew to his mind. "S... Sophia?" His voice was hoarse as he murmured the name quietly, his shoulder starting to throb with pain. "Sophia, are you out there...?" He murmured a little louder.

Sophia's head shot up. "Zephyr? " she stood and peeked through the door. "Oh-" she stepped around the door and shut it. "Oh Zephyr" the words stuck in her throat as she very slowly walked closer to him. "Are- are you ok..?" She pulled a chair up and sat down, putting her hand over his. "That's a stupid question. Of course you aren't ok. What happened? How hurt are you? Are you GOING to be ok?" The words suddenly fell out of her mouth as tears pricked at the corner of her eyes.

Zephyr didn't look too good. One side of his face was black and blue, badly bruised and scraped from hitting the concrete. His shoulder was all bound up and in way too much pain, and his throat felt like it was on fire. As Sophia came in his dull eyes lit up slightly. "You probably would know what happened more than I do." He murmured quietly, gently squeezing her hand with a faint smile, though it was painful and it quickly disappeared. "Hurt enough. I'll be okay... but not the same again." His gaze dropped to the ground, pain showing clearly in it. "The doctor said the bone will never heal quite right, so I'll never be able to lift my arm above my head again. Which means I'll never be able to play basketball again." He whispered.

"Oh Zephyr!" Tears slid down her cheeks. Why had this happened. "I'm so sorry. So sorry" she put her hand on his knee then laid her head on his lower thigh, looking up at him. "It's only your arm though right? Nothing else? " she lifted her head again to look at him. "How long until you can come to school again? And do I need to bring you any books?"

Zephyr blew out a quiet breath. "Don't be. Life happens." He murmured, his voice still low. It was hard to stay positive right now, and she wasn't REALLY helping much. "Yeah.. my arm took the brunt of the crash and my face took the brunt of the fall. Seems like I do that a lot." He closed his eyes for a moment, pain still radiating through his shoulder and throbbing through his face. "4 weeks... I can go home in a week but I can't lift anything and I'm not allowed to do any activity, including school, for 4 weeks." His voice dropped to a whisper again. "No, you don't need to do anything for me.." He was trying really hard not to just start breaking down. This whole thing could've been avoided if he had ran a little faster, or a little slower, or if that person hadn't run into him.

"I'm so sorry... but atleast you get out of school right? Sorry for being Mrs. Captain Obvious. You know all of this already." She sighed and looked at him. "You'll be ok though. I know it. I know YOU. You'll pull through. You'll show those doctors that you can do anything you put your mind to. "

Zephyr's face twitched in a small smile, but it was half lived. He was too injured to smile. "I'm not so sure about that. What they say is what they mean. I won't be able to do anything until I heal, and even after that I- I still won't be able to do what I WANT to do." He let his head sag back with a defeated sigh. "I won't be able to play, or do.... any sports. How am I ever supposed to do anything? What am I supposed to spend my day doing? Sleeping?" The hurt in his voice showed plainly.

"Zephyr..." she glanced away, gulping. There was something only her family and the softball coach knew and she was prepared to tell him if he wanted to know. "There's... there's something I know that you don't. I bet... because only my parents and the coach are aware of what happened to me." She took deep breaths. She was traumatized from her experience but used it to help others.

Zephyr glanced slowly at Sophia. The look on her face- she was scared of whatever she was talking about. Why did he have to be so selfish she felt like she had to share information just to make him feel better!? He was being stupid! "What happened?" He asked quietly, now needing to know, but also so he could focus his mind on helping her instead of his own pain and sadness.
