Sage broke out of his little zone slightly when he heard her voice, and after a moment he turned his head to look in her direction. After a few moments of silence, all he could say was "you came back." He didn't know if it was a statement or a question... everything was so confused inside his head, and the last thing he expected was to see Anya. Maybe he was just hoping. Maybe she was just an illusion brought about by the cold. It was possible, he had been sitting there sweaty in the snow for hours now. Maybe that was it. He was just freezing. But did he care? Not really. If Liz was gone, he didn't have to keep fighting to survive. It was just him and his father now. He could die, he didn't care about the old man. He would die soon anyway, so why not just let it happen now? Sooner rather than later. No, Anya wasn't real. She couldn't be, she had left.

The few moments of silence seemed to last a life time in Anya's head. God, what if she had spoken to the wrong person? It could be someone else, someone potentially dangerous. The girl thought about that for a moment... Sage was dangerous too. If she caught him in a bad mood, or he thought she was someone who would cause him an issue, she had no doubt he could cause some serious damage. Though, she didn't suspect he went around attacking random people, and he wouldn't hurt her... she hoped not at least. She was armed, but being armed did nothing if you had no skill. Hopefully, she had spoken the name of the right person. And her hopes were confirmed when she heard his voice. She shook her head slightly. "I didn't come back for you." Now, why would she say something like that? Seemed fucking stupid. Somewhere deep down, she did want to see him, though, she wouldn't admit that. Sure, she come out, but that was for herself... so she could calm down a little. No way was she planning to see the boy just yet.

Sage shrugged. "But you're here. Unless I'm just imagining things." He should be happy to see her. He should have welcomed her happily. But he couldn't seem to muster the energy to even smile. He had barely glanced in her direction. Maybe if she had come yesterday, he would have reacted differently. Of course, no one could have guessed Lizzie would have gotten sick. He knew the chances were high, but she had always been healthy. Stronger, almost, than him. He had given her everything, did everything he could to keep her safe and happy. But it just wasn't enough. Anya should have lifted his spirits. But he felt too numb for that now.

The girl nodded slightly. Her brows furrowed slightly. He seemed upset. Was that because if her? She stared at him for a moment. "Yeah. I'm here," she shrugged slightly before wandering over slightly. For a moment, she thought about just walking away again. She wasn't trying to get caught up with Sage anymore... but something compelled her to stay. Just for a short while. She sat down next to him and offered him one half of her little coat before staring out into the river, her knees tucked up and her head resting on them lightly. She glanced over at him, trying to think of something to say. She hadn't seen him in almost two months. It was a little scary how fast that last few weeks of that had gone.

Sage should probably turn to her, say something, do something...she seemed awkward just sitting there in silence. But it seemed like all he could do was stare out across the water, staring at nothing. Feeling nothing, not the wet, not the cold, not even the fact that he was probably freezing right about then. It seemed odd that even Anya couldn't lift his spirits any...normally he would have greeted her with a smile. But that seemed impossible. It had nothing to do with her, though that's probably what it seemed like to her. He didn't mean it, but he couldn't seem to muster the energy.

Anya sat silently, just watching out into the distance. It seemed so... weird. She couldn't figure out what was wrong with Sage, or what to do or say to make things a little livelier. She thought the next time she saw Sage, it would be like where they left off, only without the awkwardness. Now, it was so strange. She felt almost nothing. She had expected to be exited to see him again, and for him to be exited to see her. She pouted in thought for a moment before deciding to make some sort of small talk. "How've you been?" That seemed like such a bland question, but it'd do. She still didn't want to stay long... and she wanted to stay away for another few weeks before coming out again, but it would nice just to catch up with him just a little.

He shook his head slightly. "That depends on what you call good and bad," he murmured thoughtfully. "I've been busy I guess, which means I'm making money, although I guess I won't be needing as much anymore." Oops. He hadn't meant to say that. He didn't need to burden Anya about Lizzie. He wasn't sure he could even talk about it. Not that he was really thinking about what he was saying....it almost seemed like his voice was coming from somewhere around him, but not his body. He felt almost like he was floating, not really existing in this world. He cold breeze whipped through the trees, which usually would have at least made him shiver, but he barely even noticed the biting cold.

Anya raised a brow slightly. "What do you mean, you don't need it?" She asked quietly. She didn't need an answer, and she supposed it was a kind of personal question. She didn't really need to know what he was doing with his money. She held herself a little tighter as she felt the breeze before looking over at Sage. In the same old tattered clothes. They were pretty lucky to be out of the snow where they were, but it was still cold. "God, you must be freezing." She rolled her eyes slightly before using half of her wrap around coat and placing it lightly over his shoulders. She knew he was used to the cold, but she didn't need him freezing to death while she was there.

Sage shrugged. "I guess I just don't care anymore," he muttered. He jerked his head in the direction of Lizzie's grave, the upturned earth stark against the snow. "There's only one of us to feed now. And I don't think I'll be eating for a while anyway," he murmured horsely. You would think that he'd be more emotional. Cry, maybe. But no, his voice was flat. Dead, almost. Emotionless. (It's a bit short I've been busy today lol)

Anya stared at him for a moment before furrowing her brows. She carefully glanced in the direction he had tipped his head before she felt her heart drop. Shit. No wonder he was distant. "...Liz?" She asked quietly, her voice wavering slightly. She didn't need to ask, and she wasn't sure why she did. The girl thought back slightly. Lizzie seemed so... lively last time she saw her. And she was so young. She found herself wishing she had stayed just a little longer the last night she had been in the village, so she could see her again. What was Anya supposed to do? Sage seemed so emotionless, but he was used to death. This, though, this was his sister. He had said she was the only reason he was still going. There was nothing Anya could say or do to make this better for him. (All good! I'm out competing for the next three days, but then should have a chill week lol) Edited at August 27, 2022 04:25 PM by Belle
