I mean, I don't know if it's an American university or if your curriculum is based off having good class participation, but believe me, you aren't the first student they've had ask a dumb question, and you won't be the last. I had my fair share of dumb questions when I was going through college

Jora sighed softly as she heard the dinner bell, the sound breaking the brief peace they’d found. She could tell Sage didn’t want to go, even if he tried to hide it behind that casual tone. The way he relaxed into her, the warmth of his presence—it felt so good to just *be* for once. He was always running around, always so caught up in everything.
"I'll be waiting," she replied softly, trying to keep the disappointment out of her voice. She didn’t want to make him feel guilty for needing to go; she understood the responsibilities he had to juggle. But still, part of her wished he could just stay a little longer.
She felt his hand on her back, the small pat before he moved to get up, and couldn’t help but smile a little. "Don’t take too long," she teased gently, pushing herself up as well. "You know I get hungry for more than just dinner."
The warmth between them lingered a moment longer, but then he was gone, leaving her with the quiet room and the soft echoes of his words.

Sage hummed softly when Jora said she'd be waiting. She always was...and he did appreciate it. It was more than just being her when he came back with dinner though, it was something more than that. She was always at his side, no matter what happened. Even when they hadn't seen each other in years, she'd seen him and immedietly known she wanted to help him.
He knew she didn't want him to go as much as he didn't want him to go, but it was just part of the job he had now. Pretend to be something he wasn't but, that was for all their sakes, including the baby. And he'd do anything to protect his family. Her comment made him chuckle softly, and he gave her a grin. "Careful, or the food will get forgotten," he teased lightly, throwing her a wink before slipping out their door.
As he walked, his cheek reminded him he had to be careful though, and he focused his mind on the task at hand, slipping in and out of the kitchen quietly, avoidning everyone he could.
He was back soon enough, offering her a plate with a grin. "Eat up," he chirped. "Then you can fill up your other needs," he added lightly, referencing her earlier comment.

(should we do a timeskip? I feel like we need more drama haha)
Jora couldn’t help but smile softly when Sage hummed. She had always loved the sound of it, that low, comforting hum that was a mark of him being near, of everything feeling just a little more stable. She had always been at his side, and even in the toughest of times—when they'd been apart for years—she knew exactly who he was. That hadn’t changed, not even after all the time, not even with the secrets he carried.

She hated that he had to go, just like he hated leaving her, but she knew it was part of the job now. The job that kept them safe, kept their future safe. The baby. He’d do anything to protect their family, even if it meant pretending to be something he wasn’t. She saw the weight he carried, even when he tried to hide it, and it made her love him even more.

Her teasing comment made him laugh, and the sound of it made her heart flutter, even when things felt heavy. "Careful, or the food will get forgotten," he teased, his grin infectious, his wink a reminder that they could still share moments of lightness between all the shadows they were caught in.

As the door clicked shut behind him, Jora let out a long breath. She would wait. She always did, even if it was hard. But she trusted him. She always had.

When he finally returned, her eyes lit up at the sight of him, and the plate in his hands. “Eat up,” he chirped with that same playful grin, the one that always made her feel like they could take on the world together. "Then you can fill up your other needs."

Her heart skipped, the familiar warmth of him filling her up in ways words never could. She took the plate from him, her gaze soft as she met his eyes. He was home for now, and that was enough.

(we could definitely do a timeskip. Is it bad for my mind to immediately go to skipping months later, and something happens where the boats destroyed, maybe they're attacked or something, and they lose each other? Maybe Jora goes into labor, but they each think the other one's dead? We could do the initial thing, then skip ahead and maybe she finds him back in a tavern later on again, back in a bad situation like before? lol)

Sage just grinned at the girl as he offered her the plate. They'd developed a system of eating by then, since he wasn't suppsoed to get his meal until later. They split this meal, and she snacked on whatever she wanted until he could go get 'his' meal. They split that too, though there often wasn't much there. Sometimes there was nothing. That was to be expected, of course, since he still got grief from literally everyone else on the ship. But that was ok. He had learned to ignore it long ago.

He'd flopped onto the bed next to her with a soft sigh, content to be back in the room with her, where he didn't have to act like something he wasn't. He wasn't a prideful person...in fact he was pretty much the complete opposite...but with Jora constantly building him up, he was starting to realize his worth as a person. It was a good feeling...knowing you were better than what others told you you were.

(I like that idea! Perhaps another enemy attacks? Also, remind me what the gender was? Or did we not decide?)
Jora glanced up at Sage, a small smirk playing on her lips as she accepted the plate. She’d long stopped questioning the way things worked on this ship, and by now, the routine felt almost comforting. They'd figured it out, made the most of what little they had, and it worked. She could always count on Sage for one thing—he was solid, steady, and in a weird way, he gave her peace in the chaos.
As he flopped down beside her, Jora leaned back slightly, studying him for a moment. She noticed the way his shoulders seemed to relax just being near her. He never had to try to be anything he wasn’t with her. That was the part she loved most—how much he trusted her, how much he was *becoming* himself again, bit by bit.
“You know,” she said with a soft chuckle, picking at the meal, “you're a lot more than what they make you out to be, Sage. I hope you realize that.”
She offered him a sideways glance, letting the words hang in the air, watching how the corners of his mouth twitched, as if he hadn’t quite heard that enough to really believe it yet. It was her mission to make him believe it.

(yeah, works for me! And I don't think we decided...I don't really care lol)

Sage sort of peered over at jora when she spoke up, offering her a small smile and a nod. He was learning that about himself...ir was slow going, and he did doubt himself a lot of the time still. But he was starting to figure out his own worth. It was thanks to Jora, all of it...and he did appreciate it.

"Not anymore," he hummed, just resting his head against her leg lightly. He'd been a servant before...worse than a servant, really. But he'd risen from that, and now he had Jora and the baby. He had a family. And that was more than he'd ever imagined he could have.

(Time skip?)
Jora’s heart softened at his words, her hand automatically reaching to brush through his hair, the simple gesture grounding her in the moment. She could feel the weight of everything he’d carried, everything he still carried—more than he realized, maybe. But she didn’t want to push. Not now.
She smiled, her voice gentle, like she was savoring the quiet between them. “You’ve always had worth, Sage,” she murmured, her fingers lingering at the back of his neck. “It just took someone who could see it. And... maybe someone who needed to see it, too.”
She wasn’t sure if that made sense to him, but she could feel the truth in it, something unspoken that had been there all along. She loved him—how far he'd come, how far they'd come together. And he deserved all the good things that had found him. "You have me, you have us," she added softly. "And that's worth everything."

(sure!)

The next few months had been...long, to say the least. Things had gotten pretty hectic, especially once the morning sickness and such started and became a regular occurrence. The doctor on board the ship was also often in the room, and Jora's mother had stopped by pretty often. Long story short, there was always someone in the room.

He'd started using the walk to get food as an escape from the noise....which was what he was doing now. He was taking his time walking back towards the cabin at the moment, since the hallway was quiet. Though, after a few moments, he paused. Something was off. It was too quiet....and he didn't like it. He frowned slightly, ears twitching slightly as he tried to figure out why he felt odd. It was just a feeling....but even so it caused his steps to quicken as he moved back to the now very pregnant Jora.

He didn't get very far though, since as he was almost to her room the side of the ship blew up, and he was tossed into the opposite wall. When his vision cleared, he blinked the dust out of his eyes and moved to push the heavy beams of splintered wood off of his body in an attempt to get back to the room.

Jora and the baby were the only thing on his mind...no doubt he was hurt, it had been enough to send him flying and knock the hair out of its half bun sort of thing he'd had. But he didn't feel anything. All he could think of was getting this wood off him and getting back to his family.

Jora had been resting on the bed, her mind too clouded by the exhaustion of the last few months to fully focus on anything. She had just closed her eyes, trying to enjoy the silence for a brief moment when it happened.

The explosion was deafening. The ship rocked violently, throwing her from the bed as the walls shuddered. Her heart stopped for a moment, breathless in the chaos. The sound of metal twisting and tearing apart made her pulse spike. She gasped as a pain shot through her abdomen—though, it wasn't like anything she'd felt before. Panic surged in her chest. Was it the baby? Was the baby okay?

She couldn't think. She couldn't breathe.

But then, she felt it—a presence. Sage. He had to be.

"Stay calm, Jora," she whispered to herself, trying to push herself off the floor. The room was in tatters, debris everywhere, the air thick with smoke. Her legs were shaky, but she managed to stumble to her feet. She needed to get to the door, needed to find him, but the ship had other plans.

Sage had managed to scramble out of the pile of heavy debris, mind focused on just getting back to the cabin. He could see it, all the way down the hallway, and it looked nasty. God...Jora and the baby had to be ok. They just....had to be. He was blind with panic as he scrambled to the room, working at shoving the debris in front of the door away.

"Jora," he'd sort of called, once he made a sort of hole in the pile in front of the door, breathing heavily and head swirling as panic tightened his chest. He couldn't breathe, couldn't think. "Jora are you ok," he added anxiously, clearly worried sick.

He didn't know if she'd responded or not though, since another explosion knocked the ship, knocking him off his feet again. He tried to get up, and staggered a few feet down the hallway, back towards her, but as the ship listed to the side, he found himself loosing his footing again, landing in the water under a bunch of broken wood and metal.
