He felt the sadness build. "I'm sorry if you thought I was following you. If you want me to leave, fine." He started walking back to the hill he came from, feeling slightly angry and a lot sad that this mare was so untrustful.

"Wait! I- I didn't mean it like that" She called after him.

He stopped walking and turned back. "Like what? I think it's perfectly fine you didn't ... know I wasn't following you. So is your answer a : I don't want you to leave right now : or a : I didn't want to hurt your feelings but leave anyway?" He half laughed, but his heart felt as I felt it was sinking.

"I- I didn't want to hurt your feelings. You can stay if you'd like. " She put her head down.

His brown eyes gentled. "You didn't hurt my feelings, it's okay. I should go get a drink anyway." He don't know why he turned down the offer, but now it felt wrong to stay. He trotted up the slope, and down the other side to the river, drinking deeply.

"oh- okay..." She lay down where she was.

He hoped he didn't hurt HER feelings by turning her down. His brow creased worriedly and he cantered back to the top of the hill, watching the mare. "Well that was a stupid descision." He muttered. Now he felt bad for turning her down, and sad he turned her down! "Sheesh, maybe I am just a young stupid stallion." He muttered, walking silently halfway down the hill so he was close enough to hear the mare and laying down.

She sighed and closed her eyes.
