Sage heard her say his name, and he made a face. "I know," he muttered. They were both a hot mess, and neither of them could seem to fix it. This really wasn't good. Last night she was able to look away. Now neither of them could, and they were both blushing and this was getting...almost scary. Anya was the princess, and going to be queen. She had a whole life, including a future husband. Sage shouldn't mean anything to her, but it seemed like he meant a lot.

Shit. Why didn't she look away while she could? When she could move and stop whatever this was? She felt her heart beat speed up a little... they both knew this needed to stop, and that they should probably end the night there once they did. Anya's stomach was turning... butterflies, or was it fear? She didn't know. It was all terrifying. Where was Lizzie there to make a joke when they needed her? She drew in a shallow breath when he spoke, unsure of how to make herself speak, or how to do anything for that matter. Sage didn't need her to worry about... not while winter was coming. Sage bit his lower lip, thinking of a way to stop this bit was crazy...why couldn't he just look away? It was such a simple task, and yet it seemed impossible. His stomach seemed like it was turning in circles, though it wasn't necessarily in a bad way. Why couldn't Lizzie butt in and break this? Did he even really want to stop it? He didn't know. Though, if Lizzie knew he liked Anya, he'd never, EVER live it down. Why couldn't he even blink? Blink and look away ...it was simple. So, so simple and yet so difficult.

At some point, Anya had rolled onto her side. She hadn't realised she done it at fist, but surely if she could move her body, she could simply bat her eyelids and look away. Did she even want to? She didn't want to push him away again... but on the same hand, she had to. Whatever this was, even if there was nothing stopping them from being together, it would end badly. It always would. She didn't want to hurt Sage, or herself for that matter. That thought hurt. They'd never get to figure this out. Eventually Anya managed to look down and placed her hands lightly on his chest to quite literally push him away from her, so that this could finally end. Edited at August 25, 2022 10:28 AM by Belle

Sage knew it was better this way, with them farther apart. He did appreciate her efforts, since he couldn't seem to make himself move away. His stomach dropped, and it hurt of course, but all of it hurt. His chest burned where she had touched him, and he couldn't even tell if it was in a good way or bad way. This was crazy ... Why was be rendered so useless when it came to Anya? Why couldn't he quench these feelings like he could with everything else? It made no sense. He turned his eyes to the fire, staring into the flames, thinking.

Anya turned away from the boy and looked at her hands for a few moments before wrapping them around herself. Everything felt so fast now... it felt a bit like time had stopped in Sages eyes. It was strange the power they had over her. The fact that her, a literal princess could be captured by the eyes of a tavern boy... it was strange that she had feelings for him at all. She had the pick of anyone she wanted in her class until she married Luther, but the one person that she actually felt something for, loved if she was brave enough, wasn't of her class or rank. He was on the opposite end of the scale. Someone she wasn't even permitted to see. Everything was quiet for a while... the only thing she could hear being her own heartbeat, which was still going rapidly. She took a short breath, still not daring to look over at him again. "Sorry," she murmured out of the blue. She felt like whatever that was happened because of her... she could have stopped it before it got awkward... and yet, for whatever reason, she didn't.

Sage glanced over at the girl before looking back at the fire again and shook his head slowly. "No, you did the right thing," he murmured. "Whatever that was...it shouldn't be happening." It almost hurt to say it out loud ... That she had her own life and her own..whatever. Her own everything. And he was just a tavern worker. Some random kid she should never even have met. He let out a slow breath, trying to calm his heart down a bit. It only worked so well, though. Anya was like no one he had ever met before, let alone talk to and be with every single night. He wondered what would happen the rest of the times she would come, or if she would decide to stop coming. Edited at August 25, 2022 12:09 PM by NightClan

Anya nodded slightly, curling into a little bit of a ball. "Yeah, right," She murmured, not really paying attention. She knew that it shouldn't be happening, but for whatever reason it hurt to hear it from his mouth. Should she leave? It would just be awkward if she stayed. On the same hand, she hadn't been there that long, and she wasn't inclined to walk back in the cold just yet. They were sort of back to back now, which was a nice break, because it meant she didn't have to worry about the blush that was still heavy on her cheeks. "Is Lizzie coming tonight?" She asked quietly, her voice a little fragile.

Sage thought for a second and shrugged. "I don't know. She's been busy gathering and drying herbs. Although it's snowed now, so she might stop by." He chuckled softly. "More likely she's curled up in every single blanket at the house in front of a fire as she sorts all her funny little healing leaves." He smiled softly at the thought. "She's always helping people. She's almost the towns doctor of sorts." He sighed softly, wishing he had the time to figure out his own hobbies. But he never had that chance. It was always work, hide, and fight for him. Every second was a fight. Edited at August 25, 2022 12:35 PM by NightClan

Anya gave a small smile, amused by the thought. "If the doctor was a bit nicer I'd see if she could shadow him for a while. It'd be good for her to learn a thing or two." She thought it'd be good for the girl... and then when she got older then maybe she could use that to actually be a doctor of the village. Really help people. "I'll wait a little while to see if Lizzie shows up, then I'll go." She murmured thoughtfully. In truth, she didn't want to leave at all. She wanted to talk things over with Sage, try and understand what was happening, but nothing would come of that. They had just gotten so close to... something, she didn't know what, but it was terrifying, and she wanted to know if Sage was scared too. She also didn't want to leave in fear that she might not come back. Of course, she wanted to see Sage, and be with him, but not if she would just be thinking about what about what couldn't be the whole time.
