Sam laughed at her joke, watching the blue butterfly twirl and flip inbetween the plants and trees. Sitting down on a bench near a little stone fountain, hehugged his knees and watched quietly. It was a very quiet place, almost reserved for only the most beautiful of conversations. But Sam didnt want to puncture the quiet, so he was silent until Ellie spoke.

Ellie paused to look at the pretty fountain before following Sam to the bench and making herself comfortable. She waited for him to speak, but she soon saw that he was perfectly content with the silence. She smiled softly before closing her eyes, relaxing with her lips slightly parted as she listened to the small birds and rustling of the trees.

after a little whil more of peaceful silnce and happiness, Sam spoke "y'know, my Mother loved these places. Gardens, i mean." He said quietly, opening up. "i guess thats really why i like them so much. They remind me of her." he said, resting his head sideways on his knee so he could look at Ellie. She really was quite beautiful, he decided.

Ellie looked up slightly before giving him a small smile, "That's sweet," She said lightly before opening her eyes a little. "That they remind you of her. Did you ever go to one with her?" She questioned softly. She didn't think that he told her very much about his mother, other than he loved her very much. And by the sounds of it, there was good reason for it.

"she...she passed away when i was a kid, but we would always come to places like these together." Sam said, finally opening up about one of the most personal things he had- the fact that his mother, his loving, kind, cherished mother had died. He didnt really know why he was telling Ellie, but he trusted her and liked her.

"At least you have those memories- because they last forever." She said with a small smile. As he spoke to her, she found that she was struggling with what to say. It also reminded her the the young man in-front of her was now an orphan. He had lost his mother and more recently his father. Ellie felt a wave of pitty flush over her before giving a heavy breath. "Do you have a picture of her?"

Sam did a little half smile, and took out his phone, showing it to er. His phone wallpaper was one of him, age 6, walking hand-in-hand with his mother, smiling oyously as the young Sam looked at the intertwining trees and flowers around them. "thats us." he said quietly, his voice full of emotion.

Ellie gave him a small smile as she took a closer look at the photo. "You look like her," She said softly, "You have her eyes," Ellie paused quietly before sitting back slightly to take his emotions in, "I'm sorry you lost her." Ellie whispered with a slightly shaky breath.

Sam smiled silently, "thank you." he whispered quietly, feeling the urge to hug her tightly, but he was a little shy so he wrapped his hands around his knees and folded them up on the bench, close to his chest while looking, smiling a little sadly out onto the beautiful garden in front of them.

She smiled softly but she felt as though she hadn't done enough but she wasn't sure what else to say or do. She could see he was trying to mask his upset and she felt bad for not being able to do anything. "Did you two spend a lot of time together?"
