Jora caught the lingering smile on Sage's face as he helped her unpack, her own expression softening in return. It was a little surreal, the way things had turned out. Here they were, in this tiny cabin on the open ocean, surrounded by the quiet rhythm of the waves—and despite everything, it felt like the closest thing to peace she'd had in ages. She could tell he was trying to hold onto that peace too, but there was something in his eyes, a shadow lurking there that didn't quite match the lightness of his smile. The fact that he'd be killed if anyone found out who he really was... that would always hang over them, wouldn't it? It was a dangerous life they were living, but right now, with him next to her, unpacking a life they didn’t have to hide away... it didn’t seem so impossible. Jora folded a small shirt and placed it in a drawer. She glanced at him, watching him move, the quiet comfort of his presence pushing back against the weight of everything that could go wrong. The ocean stretched out endlessly beyond their window, and in that moment, she almost believed they might be able to outrun it all.

Sage just worked at putting the few decorations they had up while Jora finished putting their clothes away, and then packed the bags up in the closet. He did wonder what they'd do....it was rather boring being on a ship and not being captain. Of course, being captain was a lot of work and he didn't especially miss it....but there were aspects to it he did miss. Being out on the open ocean especially. But they were here now, on the ocean, and a family slowly growing. He really couldn't be happier. Besides, this room was peaceful, and they could be themselves in it. He didn't always need to keep up the act, he had Jora.

Jora glanced over at Sage as he worked, moving through the small cabin with a quiet sense of purpose. She didn't mind the stillness. It was rare to have a moment like this, just the two of them, without the constant rush of duties or the noise of the crew. The ship's hum beneath her feet was comforting, like the heartbeat of a home she hadn't quite expected to find. Her eyes lingered on Sage as he packed away their things—his thoughtful, deliberate movements—and she smiled faintly. It wasn’t lost on her how much he'd changed since they'd first met. He'd become someone who could slip into these quiet moments without feeling the need to be anyone else. She appreciated that, more than he'd ever know. Still, she could feel the undercurrent of restlessness in him. The sea called to him, just as it always had. Jora understood that longing, the desire for open water, the freedom of it. She felt it, too, though maybe a little differently. She didn't need to be captain to feel the thrill of the ocean, but she did miss the wide expanse of it, the wind on her face, the stars at night. They both carried that old yearning, that pull of the horizon. But for now, this was enough. The room, the warmth of it, the soft quiet. She knew Sage didn't mind the peace, at least not when they were together. He’d adjusted, just as she had, to this new life. The family they were building was real, and it made all the difference. "How's it feel?" she asked, her voice low, almost to herself. "Not being captain anymore?" She turned to him, eyes bright with curiosity, her expression open. She knew the answer—knew he'd never fully leave behind the call of the sea—but she wanted to hear it from him. They didn’t have to pretend here. Not with each other.

Sage was happy to work quietly, moving about the cabin contently, finishing up the last few things they had yet to put away. At Jora's comment though, he sort of paused, thinking, before looking back at her with a hum of thought. "Odd," he admitted with a small chuckle. "I feel like I should be checking on something or doing paperwork or something like that," he noted with a chuckle, placing the item he was still holding in its place before moving back towards her and continuing to talk. "I do miss it...the open ocean I mean. A big ship. The freedom of it all," he mused softly, sort of glancing around the little cabin. "I like the idea of not knowing what comes next, a bit," he chuckled. He liked the adrenaline of it....the spark as you waited for a fight. The tension in the air. "But I don't miss all the work," he added with a small smile. "I think....I think being here, not in charge and with you...this is nice," he murmured softly, sitting down on the bed and watching her. "I can just do what I want to here. Stand on the bow and let the water spray my face, or climb up the mast and feel the wind as long as I so please," he added with a small grin. "And I have you to join me. A son or daughter to teach, soon. I think that will be better than any ship I could ever captain."

Jora tilted her head slightly as she watched Sage speak, a warm smile curling at the edges of her lips. She could feel the weight of his words, the nostalgia in them, the longing for a life of adventure and uncertainty. It was the same pull she had always felt, the rush of the sea, the vast horizon that promised both danger and discovery. She understood it completely, but there was something different in his tone now. Something softer. She leaned against the doorframe, folding her arms as she listened, her gaze flickering to the cabin around them, taking in the way the small space felt like home in a way the open ocean never could. "You don't miss the work," she echoed softly, her voice almost teasing. "But I think you still crave that spark—the rush of it all. The uncertainty," she added, her smile widening slightly. Sage’s words about being here with her, in this quiet cabin, made her heart flutter in a way she hadn’t expected. She had known he was drawn to the sea, to the life of a captain, to the thrill of the chase—but hearing him speak about this life, about them, about their future, made everything feel real in a way she wasn’t sure she was prepared for. Jora took a step closer, her eyes meeting his with a softer intensity. "I think," she murmured, her smile softening, "being here with you is a kind of freedom, too. One that’s just as precious as the open ocean." She leaned down slightly, kissing his forehead, the weight of her affection settling between them as she pulled back, her hands resting on his shoulders. "The best adventures," she said, her tone quieter now, "are the ones we create together." Her gaze flickered briefly to the small cabin, then back to him, her heart full with the promise of everything still to come.

Sage hummed softly when the girl spoke up again, nodding along with a sort of grin. "There's a part of me that'll always seek out a little bit of chaos and adventure," he mused lightly. "But I think this life has mysteries of its own," he noted happily. Namely, the kid that was on its way. He'd barely even seen children, let alone interacted with them. When he came down the street, in the few times he's was in a town to smuggle food and supplies out, people took one look at him and pulled their kids in the opposite direction. So he really had no clue how to interact with a baby. But that was ok...they'd learn together. He felt a smile curved his lips upwards when she moved to press her lips against his forehead, and reached for her hands, entwining his fingers with hers happily. "I think these next few months will be an adventure for both of us," he noted, nodding along in agreement. Really, the next few years would probably be an adventure...being parents was a whole new thing, to both of them probably. But he was certainly looking forward to the challenge of it all.

Jora watched Sage, his grin softening as the words fell from his lips. There was a warmth in his voice that hadn’t always been there, something genuine and steady that made her heart flutter in an unexpected way. Her gaze lingered on him as he spoke about the baby, the life they were about to start. He didn’t know how to interact with kids, that much was clear—but she could see it in his eyes. He was eager, not afraid. That was something. She smiled and reached out, her hand finding his without hesitation. His touch was grounding, something she hadn't realized she needed until this very moment. The idea of becoming parents was still a little surreal, but with him by her side, the chaos felt like it could be navigated. “An adventure,” she echoed, her voice soft, but full of hope. She squeezed his hand lightly, looking into his eyes. “I think you're right. We’ll figure it out. Together.” Her mind drifted for a moment to the future—late nights, tiny shoes, diapers... but somehow, the unknown didn’t seem as daunting with him here, beside her. She chuckled lightly, the thought of raising a child—of being responsible for another life—seemed a little absurd, but in the best way. She’d always been reckless, but maybe, just maybe, this little one would be the kind of chaos they both needed. The kind that would remind them why they'd chosen this life in the first place. Her thumb traced over his knuckles, the smile on her lips steadying. "We'll be good parents, Sage. I believe that. You'll see."

Sage hummed softly in agreement to her first comment, nodding along happily. "It'll certainly keep us busy enough," he noted with a fond chuckle. He didn't know the little on eyet, but he was clearly already head over heels with it. Hell, they didn't even know if they were having a son or daughter. It could even ne more than one. That was unlikely...but they really had no idea. He gave her a grin and nod in reponse to the rest of her comments, rising to his tiptoes to plant a light kiss on her lips. "Our child will never have to suffer like we have," he promised. "No harm will come to them." Children would get hurt...a scraped knee, mayne touching something hot. That sort of thing. But that was learning too, of course. He didn't want it to happen, but sometimes it did. He would protect them from the small things too, of course, but he was talking about bigger things mostly. Their baby would never be treated badly by others. As far as it was concerned...it was Jora's child, not a pirate's in legal terms. It wouldn't be hunted like some kind of beast. Wouldn't be bullied for pointy ear tips or the like, if they even held any nymph characteristics. They'd never feel betrayed by the ones who were supposed to love them.

Jora’s heart swelled at Sage’s words, his gentle promise settling deep within her. She smiled softly, her hand resting on the curve of her belly, already imagining the little life growing inside. His words were a comfort, and though she hadn't yet fully realized what the future held, she found herself clinging to that hope. “Our child,” she repeated quietly, savoring the sound of it. It was still surreal, but the idea of their child, growing up in a world where they would be safe, was something Jora had never dared to dream of. Her past had been a tangled mess of betrayal and violence, a world of cruelty she'd fought to escape, and now—now she could offer something better. She leaned in, returning the kiss, her lips soft against his. "I know," she whispered, voice full of the quiet strength she'd always carried, even when she'd had nothing. "We'll make sure of it. They’ll never know what we did." Her gaze softened as she looked at him, her fingers brushing lightly over his hand. "No one will hurt them. Not if we have anything to say about it." And for once, she truly believed it. Together, they could give their child everything they never had. A soft breath left her lips as she rested her forehead against his, her mind briefly wandering to the future. Whatever came, they would face it together. This child, this family—they would be their world. And no one would take that from them.

Sage couldn't help the chuckle that bubbled up and moved past his lips when she spoke up. The way she spoke about their child, the happy tones of her voice, the love that already spoke volumes about their family...it was all just so wonderful to hear it coming from her. Amazing, really. His gaze followed her hand to her belly, wondering how in the world people could stand to wait for a while none months to meet their baby. It seemed like an eternity. A very, very long eternity. He didn't know how he'd ever manage to wait that long. "They'll have the best life we can give them," he promised, leaning against her as she rested her forehead on his and closing his eyes, just basking in the love that was swirling thickly through the air around them. "I don't think I can wait a while nine months," he sort of groaned after a moment, tone lighter and just sort of joking around now. It was fully true, but still ...he found himself laughing along to his words. "God, it seems like forever," he added. "Do you think it'll be a boy or girl," he added, honestly just crazy excited about the whole thing. He didn't care....he was just happy to have a family.
