Once they stopped I went around, taking my spot at the Admiral's side, snapping to attention as I scanned over each of the squire's faces, saying things through my eyes.

"Today, each of you graduate from squires, to soldiers. Whether you'll be deployed to the front lines, stuck here and watching over the palace, or given the highest honor, protection for the queen, commander, and their son." What? Protection for the queen commander and their son? That was. . . basically my whole purpose. Who the hell were they trying to replace me with? "Over the past six months, you have been trained under Commander Humeneaus, and in the near furture, you may go to war alongside him."

Kayla watched, confused at the sounds of replacement.

I can't react, not here, not infront of the nobles, council, and War Council. Eventually the ceremony was over, and I was free to dilly dally with the rest of the people there, except I beelined for the admiral, grabbing his arm and yanking him aside. "Are you out of your damn mind?!"

Kayla hurried to Gale's side. "Calm, Gale. Not here where they can hear you." She said, placing a hand on his arm

"You both come on, and you too." I seethed, pointing at one of the captain's, dragging the three others outside the room, shutting the door behind us as I looked at the captain and admiral, about to lose my ever loving mind. "Are you two fucking out of your damn minds? 'Protection for the queen, commander, and their son'?! That's my entire purpose here, and if you think i'd trust any of those squires to protect Malakai and Kayla you have lost everything in you."

Kayla pinched the bridge of her nose, listening to Gale. The men were crazy for thinking any of them could replace Gale's duties here and they did need to be put in their place but Kayla still stressed over Gale's stress and anger

"Gale, that is not a way to talk to an admira--" "Do you really think I care about anything you have to say after announcing that there'd be somebody 'protecting' my family? I do not care about our titles, admiral. You are easily replaceable, and don't forget that the War Council also deals with placement in ranking, and you're talking to the head of it." I turned to the captain, silencing him with a glare before turning to Kayla. "Kay, could you make sure the captain settles inside? Me and the admiral need to discuss a few documents,"

She nodded, eyes wide wit slight fear from all the shouting and she led the captain away
