Ajax turned as Mercy came up and spoke. Whoops, his slight sadness seemed to show. He was usually better at hiding his emotions, but for some reason, around Mercy, they always seemed to show. "... yeah. I'm fine." He nodded slightly and went to sit down. "Perfectly fine." Ajax added, almost as if to reassure himself. He offered a small smile to back up his words, hoping Mercy would buy it.

Mercy gave him a slightly disbelieving look, following him to the couch and settling at his side, leaning her head against his shoulder as she looked up at him. "Are you sure?" She asked softly, reaching up to gently brush her fingers through his hair. If he said it again, she would leave him be, but she wanted to give him one last chance.

Ajax caught the disbelieving look with a slight sigh. Why exactly was he even upset? -oh yeah... the memories. Duh- He thought with a cringe, glancing at her as she asked again. -Ok, here's your chance to prove you are not a stubborn mule. Ready, set, go- Ajax thought, taking in a slow breath. "Ah- nothing really, just being reminded of the fights I have gone through... not very fun. Replaying one by one how, for example, the fight with Bellatrix went, is not a 'splendid' train of thought." Ajax mused, glancing at Mercy before looking back out the window.

Mercy continued to gently stroke his hair as he spoke, tilting her head ever so slightly at him. "No, no it's not. Do you want to talk about or should I get your mind off the subject?" She asked softly, holding his gaze so she had an excuse to look at his eyes.

"Eh, I don't care. I'd be interested to know how exactly you get my attention off of it." Ajax joked with a snort, his gaze meeting hers. He had the deepest, darkest blue eyes ever that seemed to stretch down into a chasm, looking black as ever at most times, but shimmering blue with the right light. "It's not like they're important anymore. Scars are just reminders of the past. I can't change the past, so I will just have to work on shifting the future." Ajax said quietly, his gaze flickering out the window again.

Mercy shot him a teasing smile, sitting up and shifting a little closer to him. "I have lots of ideas." She joked, curling a lock of his hair lightly around her finger. She tilted her head slightly when he spoke again, giving nodding slightly. "That's a really smart way to think of it." Murmured, searching his eyes quietly. She was always so mesmerized by them.

Ajax widened his eyes slightly. "Hmm, I'm just terrified." He snickered slightly, pleased that he had learned to either ignore or, in his dreams... or nightmares... enjoy when Mercy played with his hair. He mostly definitely couldn't stop it, and if he thought it over again.. it really wasn't that bad. Ajax chuckled a little at Mercy's second comment, smiling. "Thanks for the compliment." He teased, but really, he was thankful. Ajax glanced back at Mercy as she watched him. Being the obviously SUPER observative man he was... he kinda guessed she was looking at his eyes. Anyone that ever got close enough to figure out they were blue and not black seemed to just want to stare at his mesmerizing eyes. It almost made him want to laugh, at this point.

Mercy smiled at him, placing a light kiss on his cheek. "You're welcome." She said sarcastically, continuing to toy with his hair somewhat absentmindedly. She watched him quietly for a few more moments. "Ajax, you're so... you're so great." She said softly, lightly pulling her hand back from his hair and sighing.

Ajax snorted slightly as he glanced back at Mercy, miraculously not pulling away, flinching, cringing, wincing, or anything else when she kissed his cheek. It was amazing, really, how far she had gotten while others couldn't break through the steel on his outside. Granted, no one had ever really tried. His dad didn't care at all... saw him as a tool to be whipped and abused when he didn't work perfectly. His mom cared a little at first but stopped when she realized to keep him alive she would have to work. No one else cared in the least because no one else knew him. Goose and Rooster were good friends, but that's all they were... friends. And they were also males so they lacked that passionate understanding side. Mercy had really helped him heal. As Ajax said, scars were in the past, but all of his scars felt like open wounds before he met Mercy. They WEREN'T in the past. When she came, however, it felt like she mended the wounds... emotionally. ON that note: Ajax raised an eyebrow as Mercy said her second comment, tilting his head. "Well- you're amazing too, Mercy. Thanks." He seemed a bit puzzled as to why she said that.

Mercy curled up slightly, promptly inserting herself under his arm and leaning against him quietly. "I love you." She muttered quietly, honestly to satisfy her inner curiousity. Was it simply something he had said in the heat of the moment, or had he really meant it? She wasn't able to tell she was reading too far into it, she was an over thinker at its finest.
