Mari leaned away from him at his first comment and gave a bit of a laugh. "Sage, you're my only husband," she mused lightly. To be fair, it wasn't particularly uncommon for people down in the slums to have more than one spouse... but she didn't, and she didn't want anymore because she wanted Sage. She wanted her whole heart to go to him, for her every pride and love to be directed towards him... she wanted every little achievement to be noted with him, every tiny experience to be experienced with him.

Sage chuckled lightly and nodded. "But that means I'll always be your favorite one too," he chirped happily, squeezing the girl lightly. It was a rather amusing thought, he supposed, but they both knew he wasn't likely going to live as long as the girl...and he did sometimes worry that once he was gone she'd just....move on. Find someone else, or just not care after a week or so, like Anya had done. He knew Mari cared for him more like this than Anya had, but it wasn't much comfort. But he did trust her, and he wasn't gone quite yet. Edited at May 15, 2023 10:58 AM by NightClan

Mari shook her head at him, though smiled happily and buried back into him. "Always my favourite," she told him happily before letting out a heavy breath. She was so thrilled to have found him... to have given him a chance. That he hadn't gone back to the tavern, or to have him resenting her... no, she was just happy to have him curled up with him right then. "Does that mean I'm your favourite, too?" She asked in a very childish voice, her smile softly across her face as she rested next to him.

Sage chuckled lightly, letting the girl curl up against him happily. He chuckled again at her other comment and nodded with a light hum. "Of course you are," he hummed lightly. "I'd never love anyone like I love you," he told her. It was true too....he hadn't felt like this even with Anya, and he'd thought that was love. But it turned out it was a different kind of love....not this kind of love. Not the love he had for Mari. Even his abounding love for Silas, or the doctor, or even little Amber, was different.

Mari couldn't help her stomach from fluttering when he said he wouldn't love anyone like he did her... it was a nice feeling. That he was always hers... she didn't want anyone else, and she hated the idea of him even being with anyone but her. It made her wonder if anything had ever happened to her, would he move on? Would he just forget about the life they'd had and move on? She doubted that so very much, but she still had that worry. "Never?" She whispered to him with a small smile across her face.

Sage looked down at the girl from where he was cuddled up against her and grinned with a nod before going back to resting his chin on her head. "Never," he chirped. "And when I die, I'll find Lizzie and we'll both wait for you to join us again," he hummed lightly. He was being quite serious too ...if there was an afterlife, he'd find his sister, and the doctor, and then his wife and child. They'd all be together for the rest of thime, then. And really, that did seem pretty great. He didnt care what anyone said....she was his wife, and he was going to find her no matter where they were and no matter what happened.

Mari hummed gently to him, her smile only growing at him, and her arms wrapped around his sides tighter. "Don't say things like that," she told him gently before sighing softly to him. "But I can't wait to meet her," she whispered gently, gently kissing his neck and resting gently. She didn't believe in any of that... but if it was real, then she'd be next to him forever... and she couldn't be more thrilled about it. "If you say things like that, then I'll end up crying," she then added with a soft sigh, wrapping the blankets around him tightly.

Sage hummed lightly and felt a soft smile drift on his face. "You'd have loved her," he murmured. "You remind me a lot of her, actually," he hummed. He pecked her lightly on the head with a slight chuckle when she said she'd end up crying if he kept going. He didn't really believe in anything...if there was a god or something controlling fate, he was obviously a bit annoyed and mad at the thing for making his life so hard. But, they'd given him Mari and Silas, so he supposed things were looking up. He just was still so afraid he'd lose them. But they were here, and if he had eternity with them, then he'd be happy. If they just faded away...well, then he'd be at peace. There wouldn't be any pain anymore. So either way it worked out, really.

Mari let out a gentle hum before sighing. "I do?" She whispered, keeping herself tight around his waist. "How do I remind you of her," she whispered gently to the boy, her fingers gently running along his back as she traced the scars on his back and the small divots she'd made on him with her nails the night before. She was happy she reminded him of his passed sister... it was sweet. If she made him happy, he'd really say that he'd wait for her when he died... that just made her feel so completely and utterly loved by him. He cared about her that much... there was nothing so sweet she could even say to him, as much as she wished to say so much to him.

Sage hummed lightly and tightened his hold on the girl slightly. "Well, you have the same hair as she did," he started off with. "any you're both friendly, and cheerful, and you both help anyone you can," he went in, sort of just happy to talk about her to Mari. He really did love the girl...both girls. (Short I have to run)
