Jora felt the weight of Sage’s emotions before he even spoke, the way his breath hitched, the tremor in his body that spoke volumes. She didn’t pull away when he sank to his knees in front of her—she just held him closer, her fingers running through his hair, offering him all the silence he needed to let it all out.
His words, when they came, were a mixture of disbelief and raw, tender vulnerability. It hit her in a way she hadn’t expected, stirring something in her chest. She knew Sage had carried a lot of pain, a lot of loneliness for far too long. To hear him now, to feel the weight of his gratitude and joy in her arms… it was everything.
She crouched down to meet him, her heart swelling as she whispered softly, “It’s real, Sage. It’s all real. We’re here. And we’ll always be here.”
Her voice was steady, but her own emotions were rising in a quiet tide, threatening to overflow. She’d never seen him like this, so open, so raw… and it made her heart ache in the most beautiful way.
"I’m right here with you," she added, brushing her lips lightly against his forehead. "Always."
There was no need for grand gestures, no need for more words. She could feel it in the way he held her, and the way she held him back. This was their truth now. And somehow, in that simple moment, they both knew that they had found something far more precious than they'd ever dared to hope for.

Sage appreciated Jora even more as she gave him the silence he needed to attempt to process his emotions. To find the words to try to explain everything he felt. And she did it all without judging him, or anything like that. She just listened. And then shed moved to kneel down in front of him, moving to his level.

He choked out a sort of chuckle when she spoke up, nodding softly, fighting to keep the tears at bay. It was stupid really....he hadn't cried in years. Probably not since the day Joras father had dropped him back off at the orphanage. It seemed so stupid to cry now, when things were going so well, but suddenly his emotions all just...overflowed.

He knew she meant what she said, and he knew she would always mean it. And really it all just makes everything well up even more. He sort of moved to drop his head against her shoulder with a heavy breath, after closing his eyes weakly in response to her kiss. He was trying to keep himself under control. Fighting to keep his emotions in line. But for whatever reason now, he could barely contain himself. And he sort of didn't want to. He like this a little bit...all these good feelings he hadn't ever really felt before. But he also wasn't used to showing this side of him. Letting those emotions loose. He wasn't sure he'd be able to calm himself if he let them go. And that scared him.

Jora sat there, watching him, her heart aching with the weight of the moment. She could see the conflict in his eyes, the struggle between letting go and keeping everything tightly wound up inside. It reminded her of how he'd always carried himself—strong, guarded, almost too composed. But now, in front of her, he was raw, vulnerable, and for some reason, that made her feel even closer to him.
She hadn’t said much, just quietly listened. She wasn’t sure what words could help, so she gave him the space he needed, letting him find his own voice, his own release. And when he finally let that soft, shaky chuckle escape, it wasn’t stupid to her. It was a reminder of how much he’d been holding in, how long he’d been carrying everything alone.
When he rested his head against her shoulder, her chest tightened. He was allowing himself to break in a way she hadn’t seen before, and it was both heart-wrenching and beautiful. She could feel the tension in his body, the way he tried so hard to stay in control, even now. Jora didn’t push him to speak, didn’t ask for more than what he was ready to give. She just let him lean on her, offering nothing but her presence.
His fear of losing control didn’t escape her notice. She’d seen him push everything down for so long, but there was something different now. The quiet, steady breath against her shoulder, the trembling in his chest—it told her he was ready, even if he wasn’t sure what he was ready for. She held him, pressing her cheek lightly to the top of his head, hoping that somehow her calm would help him feel safe enough to let those emotions flow without fear.
"You're not stupid," she whispered softly, almost more to herself than to him, her voice warm and steady. "You don't have to hold everything in, Sage. I’m right here." She knew he wasn’t used to this, but she wasn’t going anywhere. Not this time.

Sage just stayed there, letting Jora hold him. He knew she didn't mind, and he supposed that made all this easier. He shouldn't be breaking now though ...they needed to be strong. He needed to be strong. For her and the baby. For the family they were forming. It didn't feel right to just let himself break. He wasn't sure he'd be able to pull himself back together again.

At her words though, the breath left his chest in a rush before hitching slightly. He tightened his fingers slightly on her, shaking his head slightly. "I know," he managed to whisper, though his voice broke partway through. The way she just held him tighter in that instant though, sent his emotions spiraling out of control, and he felt a few silent tears slip down his cheek.

He just pressed his face into her shoulder then, not really sure what he was thinking, or if he even could think about much. He was just so, so glad to have her. He wasn't sure he could ever express it all to her. But this was as close as he could get, he supposed....all this was because she believed in him. Because she'd chosen him, and he knew beyond a doubt that they would be able to grow their family. To have a good life. He could let go of the anger and the desire for revenge that had driven him, kept him going at all, for so long. Something else could keep him going now.... something much better than anger and hate.

Jora could feel the weight of his breath against her shoulder, and she held him even tighter, grounding him, as though her embrace alone could tether him to something solid. She could feel his hesitation—his struggle to hold it all together—and it broke her heart in ways she didn't know how to voice. He was always so strong, so resolute, but right now, in this moment, it was clear that even the strongest walls had cracks. And she was there to catch him when they shattered.
Her fingers tightened around his, not to stop him from breaking, but to show him that it was okay to. He didn’t need to be perfect, not for her, not for the baby, not for anyone. She didn’t want him to carry all the weight alone anymore. She wanted him to know he wasn’t alone. She whispered, "We’re in this together. Always."
The feel of his tears against her skin—the rawness of it—made her chest ache. But she didn’t pull away. She just let him be, let him crumble as much as he needed, knowing that what they had was stronger than any past hurts, stronger than any darkness that had once ruled his world. She kissed the top of his head softly, the warmth of her breath steadying him, even as she held him closer.
"You don’t have to carry everything," she whispered, her voice quiet but firm. "We’re building something new now. Something better. Just let me help you, Sage."
Her hand stroked the back of his head, a silent promise that she’d never let go.

Sage just let himself collapse against the girl, grateful that she just held him. She didn't ask questions, she didn't try to understand what he was thinking. He wasn't sure he understood it all himself. She was just there, holding him, supporting him even though he should probably be the one supporting her.

After a while though, his tears had stopped falling and he sort of pulled back enough to wipe his face off, still sort of embarrassed about the whole thing. "Sorry," he sort of mumbled, noting the wet spots on her shirt, but he didn't move enough from her grasp to escape it. That was probably the only thing keeping him from completely freaking out .. her steady presence holding him, allowing him to break with her there to support him. He really was grateful for it.

(But short were heading out for a Christmas Eve service lol)

Jora didn’t say anything when Sage’s weight settled against her. She didn’t need to. His presence was like a storm, and she was the calm. She didn’t try to understand what he was thinking, didn’t try to fix it. Sometimes, people just needed space to break without the pressure of explanations or expectations. She just let him be.
When his tears finally stopped, and he pulled back to wipe his face, she noticed the subtle shift in him. The hesitation. The way he mumbled an apology, like he was ashamed. She could see the wet spots on her shirt, but that didn’t matter. She’d take them all if it meant being there for him in this moment. He didn’t have to apologize, not to her.
“You don’t have to say sorry,” she said softly, her voice steady, reassuring. She didn’t let go of him, didn’t pull back. "You’re not alone."

Sage sort of let out a shaky chuckle in response to her comment, nodding along. "I know," he noted softly, just shifting to let himself relax a little bit more in her arms. His head hurt now... probably a side effect of crying like that for so long, he supposed. It didn't really matter though. He could relax here for as long as he needed, and Jora would be there to support him. He knew that.

After a while of that though, he sort of shifted to sit up, taking a deep breath and glancing at the clock, then back at jora. "I'm gonna go grab dinner," he noted softly, moving to fix his hair, which he'd messed up while he's had his face buried in her shirt.

If he was her servant, he'd be expected to get her dinner and bring it to her. That was just common knowledge. And he'd calmed down now a little bit, so he'd be alright. He pecked her on the head lightly, letting her know he was alright, and murmured a quiet thanks to her before slipping out the door and down to the kitchen area.

He could hear all the sailors chuckling as he walked past, whispering crude things about him. He chose to ignore it though, just sliding in and out of the kitchen with a plate for Jora. He was told he'd get leftovers to eat, which was a bit annoying, but he knew there was no use arguing. He just hoped Jora wouldn't make a huge fuss about it. He slipped back into their room, handing her the plate with a soft chuckle. "Not quite a good homemade meal, but it doesn't look half bad," he noted. It certainly looked better than anything pirates could get their hands on.

Jora watched as Sage shifted away from her, the quiet weight of the moment hanging between them. She could see the effort it took for him to pull himself together, the way he checked the time and ran a hand through his hair, trying to regain some semblance of normalcy. It was a small thing, but it made her smile softly. He was trying, and she respected that. She didn’t say anything, just gave him the space he needed.
When he kissed her on the head and murmured a quiet thanks, Jora felt a flutter of warmth in her chest, even as he left the room. She stayed still for a moment, a quiet kind of loneliness settling in her heart, but it didn’t last long. She knew Sage would return to her soon enough, just as he always did.
A short while later, she heard his footsteps again, and the soft sound of him slipping back into the room with a plate in hand. The familiar grin tugged at the corner of his lips as he handed it to her, and she took the plate with a small chuckle, eyeing the food skeptically.
“If it’s edible, I’ll count it as a win,” Jora teased lightly, her voice warm with affection.
She gestured for him to sit beside her, giving him a small, reassuring smile. Sage always made sure she was taken care of, even when he was still picking up the pieces of his own emotions. It was one of the things she loved most about him.

Sage moved to hand her the plate, soft smile on his face as he made sure she had food and drink, and was settled down to eat happily. Once that happened, he moved to flop down next to her with a content sigh, pressing his side against her leg lightly. He was hungry, sure, but he could deal with it. He certainly wasn't going to take anything from Jora. If she was pregnant she needed all she could grab.

Besides, he was used to meager rations. He wouldn't be surprised if the sailora acted like...well...sailors, and made sure to leave nothing for him. But Jora would make sure there was food left for him, he knew that. She wouldn't let them starve him. But she and the baby were his first priority, so they got all the food she needed.

As captain, he always ate last...of course, his crew made sure to leave a large portion for him, but it was the same thing as then. Just ....no one respected him, save for Jora. He was still scared of her father, though he'd never admit it. As for the sailors ...well, they'd just thank whoever made them or whatever that he couldnt fight back, or start a fight.

Either way, things had gone well so far, and he was just glad they had somewhere to go. He wanted Jora and the baby to be safe...the thought of losing one of them, or even both, was absolutely unbearable. But for now they were safe. At least, mostly.
