Ajax let out a small huff, but he didn't have the energy to argue. He felt like he was fifty... but he would be forever 20-23. He tilted his head as she started talking, his eyebrows furrowing. "Huh?" Ajax looked appalled for a moment, then his eyebrows lifted. "But- I could get so much more done..." He faded out towards the end of the sentence. Ajax was, to tell the truth, tired enough to let Mercy do what she wanted... including peering at his shoulder. An injury that went with him through death.

"Nope, I won't hear it, so shut your mouth." Mercy huffed, shaking her head at his words and gently resting her hand against his right shoulder. Her touch was cool and featherlight- almost ticklish as she dragged her fingertips over his shoulder, a frown forming on her face. She gave the injury a slightly frustrated look. She could tell it was painful, but there wasn't really much to heal. There was so much scar tissue blocking and surrounding... everything, he may as well have been wearing a winter coat while She attempted to peer through it. She ended with an aggravated huff, standing to go turn on the TV. She wasn't often bested by an injury, but she hadn't quite given up.

Ajax opened and closed his mouth a couple times before succumbing to Mercy's wishes, keeping it closed. If she let him, he could probably do a tree a day... which meant it would be around 4 days before he could actually start the building process. He huffed a little thinking about it, not wanting it to take that darn long. When Mercy touched his shoulder, Ajax flinched away just slightly from the prodding pain but tried not to move too much. It wasn't like there was a way to get out from under her glaring at his shoulder. When Mercy turned away with an aggravated huff Ajax smiled a little. "Too much scar tissue, I'm guessing?" He mused, sighing a little when she went on a quest to see if the TV was less ancient than he was and actually worked.

Mercy raised her eyebrows slightly at the lack of argument, but she didn't say anything. She frowned at him over her shoulder as he commented on it. "Yeah. It never got the chance to heal right, so now it's just healed in this weird, jumbled way. But that means there isn't really much for it except to just throw stuff at it until something works." She shrugged, kneeling to feel for the power button. After... a few minutes, she managed to turn it on, and it was on some sort of true crime show. She seemed satisfied enough with it and walked back to the couch, flopping down beside him.

That brought a small smile to Ajax's face... how Mercy looked more concerned that he DIDN'T argue than she was about his shoulder. How unique. He raised his eyebrows a bit, cocking his head. "Of course it didn't get a chance to heal. On a ranch you to your daily work, hurt or not. Plus it wasn't like anyone actually knew it was hurt. Unlike you Miss Angel, they can't tell when someone's in pain... especially when I have an incredible poker face if you ask me." He explained with a snort, his gaze flicking to the small window. Gah, he should at LEAST cut up the tree a bit... but no, Ajax was sure Mercy wouldn't let him work anymore. It was already almost supper time.. he had completely skipped lunch. Or, rather, forgot about it. "So you are just going to poke, prod, glare at, and chuck stuff at my shoulder until it heals." Ajax pointed out drily, ten continued. "I'm not a magic doctor or anything, but I have this weird feeling that may not work the way you want it to." He finished with a single eyebrow raise. When the TV actually turned on Ajax looked surprised. "Well you are some type of magic worker in the least, I haven't turned that on since I went insane and bought it." He sounded amused, not bothering to waste the energy stidling to the side to 1. Get away from Mercy a little further because she was rather close or 2. Give her a little more space. The second option didn't even cross his mind because that just wasnt how Ajax thought. Especially when she was tiny, and as she pointed out many times, he was "like a skyscraper", Mercy had enough room. "Am I, like, allowed to... move?" Ajax asked, purely for the sake of wanting to go on a walk or SOMETHING that wasn't sitting there. "I don't need to work, or do anything, I just want to..l do... anything but... ya know..l watching television." He snorted. Edited at October 14, 2023 11:40 PM by Wild West Warmbloods

"Pfft, you have about as much of a poker face as Rex does." Mercy laughed, smiling as she practically watched the gears turn in his head while he looked outside. He really, really wanted to go outside and keep hacking away at that tree, so it meant a lot to her that he stayed inside anyway. She listened to him speak with a mock thoughtful expression and then nodded. "I mean, yeah. That's exactly what I'm going to do." She teased, giving him an amused look as he commented on the TV. "Well, you see, there's a reason they call angels miracle workers. If I can get you to let me sit beside you without immiediately running away, I can do anything." She teased, shuffling a little bit away from him. He didn't like being close, she knew that. So when she remembered, she tried to make an effort not to force her preference on him. "I guess so. As long as I'm allowed to come with and annoy you." She said sarcastically.

"Well then Rex has an AMAZING poker face." Ajax retorted grumpily, looking at the giant St. Bernard mix who was laying on the floor, sleeping. "And I also have a much better poker face than him," he mumbled feebly, glancing out the window again. Really, really, really wanted to go back out there. "I guess you can do anything." Ajax let out a small snort. "Except one thing. The day when I see you treat Rooster with a wound he doesn't want you to treat, I will admit you can do ANYTHING." He pointed out with a slight eyebrow raise, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Oh splendid! And yes, didn't you hear the whole emotional part where I just poured out my fears and somewhere in the middle I stupidly said *I will never let you out of my sight again*?" Ajax asked dramatically, standing right up and cheerily, though a little stiffly, walking to the door and opening it. "Ladies and Miracle Workers first." He gestured outside with a grin, going out after her and starting to walk towards the back of the field, past all the fence. There was a miniature break in the trees where, sometime, he had hacked down a tiny path. Ajax ducked through the foliage and sauntered along, his eyes flitting everywhere in the nature, soaking in the greenery. He just loved nature, and had always appreciated it 100 times, no 1,000 times more after he had actually died. If Ajax could pick any place to be... it would be smack in the middle of a northern forest. Maybe Northern Minnesota.

Mercy leveled a glare at him. "Hey, anything's possible, so consider that challenge accepted." She grinned, nodding at his next comment. "Oh yes, I remember. Now you're never getting rid of me." She teased, standing and walking after him with a little eye roll. "Always a gentleman." She said sarcastically, walking at his side the whole way.

Ajax looked around the entire forest, it seemed, before following the trail all the way to a very small waterfall. The evening sun shone through the green leaves in just the right way to bath the ground in its warm light. The branches of the majestic trees made a pleasant sound, rustling in the wind. The water from the waterfall gurgled down an equally small stream, going towards the lake they had seen before. It was perfectly clear, so clear you could see every multi-colored pebble that lay beneath the surface. Ajax turned to Mercy and gently cupped his rough hand around her face. "Mercy, I just wanted to say that- I do really like you. Well, more than that. I- I love you. You have brought light to my life when no one else could. You have shone brighter than any star on my dim horizon. In a world that I thought was only cruel, you showed me kindness. When I was ready to give up, you pulled me forward. You protected me and healed me, and I couldn't ask for more." Ajax said quietly, tilting Mercy's head up towards him and giving her a gentle kiss. "Thank you."

Mercy watched him intently as he deliberated on exactly where to walk, following him without a word as he continued walking and continuing to look around at the foliage. It was truly stunning scenery, what with the evening light filtering through the trees, but nothing compared with the breath taking sight he lead her to. It seemed like something quite out of a fairytale, and she took in a sharp breath when she saw it, her eyes widening just a bit. She blinked out of her shocked state when she felt a hand lightly cup her face, utterly surprised to see that it was Ajax. He never initiated contact, much less like this. Once the initial puzzlement died off, she offered him a soft smile and tilted her head into his hand slightly, listening to him speak happily. She took in a small, sharp breath when he uttered 'I love you', her brain taking a few moments to process the words entirely. By the time she had accepted the fact that she wasn't in some sort of lucid dream, he was pulling her into a soft kiss, which she reciprocated gently. When he pulled away, her eyes fluttered open and she simply stared at him, still trying to get up to speed with... everything. "Anytime." She whispered, barely managing the words. "And I- I love you too." She added softly, gently bringing her hand up to rest on his.
