Jade bit her lip, turning to look toward her room again. "Maybe I'll visit the kitchen. She stops by there from time to time, so maybe she got distracted?" There was a hint of hope in her otherwise worried tone. She glanced at Gail. "Let's go." She gave a brief smile to the other guard posted beside her room then started down the beautiful halls. Lush grey carpet softened every hurried step she took, the portraits of past kings and queens staring blankly from their spot on the wall. She placed a small hand on the railing of the stairs and practically ran down them. Please, be in there. She thought to herself. She took a right turn past the dining room, searching for the servant's enterance. She smiled as the scent of fresh dough and cookies filled the air. She slowly pulled the door open to reveal the head cook barking orders to the younger cooks. His cheeks were flushed red as he snapped at a man for having the wrong type of sugar. He spun around, preparing to yell at someone when his eyes caught on the princess in her robe. "Your Highness!" He sank into a quick bow. The others did the same before returning to their hasty cooking. "To what do I owe the honor of serving you? Would you like a pastry?" He asked, his voice suddenly chipper; there was even a small smile on his lips. Suddenly, a woman burst from the pantry. "Princess Jade!" The woman informally greeted her, coming up and smooshing her in a hug. A little girl clung to the joyful woman's leg. "It's been so long since you've visited us!" She held Jade's arms, leaning back to look her up and down. "You've grown." She sighed. "I've missed you, Rebecca." Jade hugged her again then reached down to ruffle the little girl's pigtails. "Hi, Hannah." The little girl smiled then backed away. Rebecca, finally finding her manners, looked over at Gail. "Oh, deary, who is this?" She eyed Jade then elbowed her lightly, leaning toward her to say "Did the king finally find you a nice looking guard?" She elbowed her a few more times until Jade giggled and pushed her away playfully. "Rebecca!" She squeaked, earning a few gentle glances from the cooks.

Gale nodded, understanding her concern about the maid. He followed close behind her, gaze sweeping every little detail to make sure nothing was rigged or trapped. Eventually they reached the kitchen, the smell of baked goods hitting him in a wave. One of the younger cooks ran into him with a bowl of water, splashing it all along his face. Gale ran a hand down his face before flicking the water off, looking at the young woman staring at him in shock. He chuckled dismissing her with a simple wave of the hand though she came back and offered him a towel, the knight accepting and drying the rest off, being offered ten things at once. "Sir Gale is this right?" "Does this need anything in your opinion?" The man just raised his hands in mock surrender, seeing the few familiar faces and huffing a laugh, the group joining in before he collected himself back up. "Oh please, I haven't cooked let alone baked in years, but Liz it needs more sugar, Caden go boil it for a few more minutes, Charles do go and add some basil for me, and the rest of you go ask somebody else," He paused, leaning in and dropping his voice to a whisper. "I kinda got threatened to be beheaded if I don't stay with her." He mused, the group nodding and scattering as Gale heard Rebecca's words. The knight turned and chuckled, eyes scanning their surroundings on instinct.

Jade couldn't help but feel as though Gail was more comfortable down here than he was following her around all day. "Wait, did you say you've cooked?" She reached toward his arm, but she pulled her hand back before she could make contact. Her entire expression shifted as she got an idea. "Prove it." She teased lightly, practically bouncing on her toes. Rebecca rook her arm for a second, leaning in and telling her that Nima was in the back helping in place of a sick cook. Jade nodded slowly, a hand on Hannah's shoulder. The little girl threw her hands up and Jade gave in, lifting the girl onto her hip. "You're so big now!" She tapped the girl on the nose and they both giggled. The princess turned to Gail again with a hopeful smile. "And I wanna help."

He shrugged, shaking his head. "I mean, used to. Was at my family's bakery everyday but, pay didn't cut it, so came here, and now I send everything to them, haven't had the chance to bake or anything in nine years though." Gale said simply, gaze flicking down to her hand reaching out to his arm, keeping his gaze there for a moment and seeming to stare at the floor while she carried on with other conversation. -Did she just try and touch my arm? Oh my, she did. Wow, okay. . . didn't think that'd ever happen but, sure, why not.- The man thought, looking back up at her, his piercing blue eyes searching her face for a moment as she spoke. Gale smirked a smidge when she said she would help, honestly curious as to see if she could keep up. "Sure, try and keep up though, Princess." He teased, pulling his gaunlets off and sticking them in the pouch on his hip. Gale then turned, pointing at a few cooks he personally knew, all giving them quick orders to grab this or grab that, find this, bring this here, etc.

Rebecca clapped and tapped the head chef on the shoulder. The big man turned toward his wife, giving her a kiss on the cheek as she passed. Hannah squirmed and Jade let her slip to the floor. "Papa," The girl grabbed the chef's leg but he gently pushed her back. "Felix!" Rebecca snapped from the pantry and the chef only chuckled, sneaking a piece of dough for his daughter. Hannah waddled off with her mouth stuffed. Jade rerouted her focus on Gail. "What's first?" She pulled her robe off, slipping her hands over her nightgown. She placed her gown on a hook with the coats of the workers. She thotoughly cleaned her hands, flicking the excess droplets at Gail with a snort. She scurried away, grabbing an apron. "I'm all ready!" She smiled at her guard.

Gale flicked water back at her, chuckling warmly as he dried his hands off and looked at the variety of ingrediants infront of him. The man looked over at Jade, eyes watching her before realizing he was watching and flicking his gaze elsewhere. "Well Jade, we can make anything, so, what do you want to make? I all out of ideas," He mused lightly, voice not so stern and cold for once but loose and warm, as it was with people he enjoyed. Felix walked over, instructing them on a new method he learned on bread, letting it sit for longer than it should, making it more fluffy since it'd rise more. The knight nodded in thanks, dismissing him as the man hurried and got back to work. "Sir Gale!" A messenger called, breathless as he burst through the doors to him, dipping his head in some sort of salute before handing him a folded letter. "Sorry if I seem rushed---which I am---today's been long day," The boy mused tiredly, Gale chuckling before sending him off and slipping the letter alongside his gaunlets before turning back to Jade and waiting on a response.

Jade thought hard for a second. "Maybe we can make cookies? Like the sugar cookies in stores? I've never had them, but they seem delightful!" She had mistakenly gotten a catalog of pastries from a store outside the walls. The flakey sugar cookies with frosing and star shaped sprinkles had been engraved in her memory and she longed to taste them. Jade glanced around the kitchen, spotting Nima in the corner, head ducked over her work. She'd pay her a visit later. As if on que, Nima looked up, wiping her forehead. She caught Jade's gaze and shared a smile before returning to her masterpiece. The princess spun around to see a boy run in. She tilted her head, curiosity getting the better of her jusgement. "What's that?" She asked. "If you don't mind me asking, of course." She added, stammering slightly, an embarassed flush on her cheeks. Rebecca eyed the pair, smiling to herself.

Gale tore the letter open, eyes reading through all the nonsense before his expression fell for a moment, a deep sadness washing over his features before he forced a smile back on his face and folded up the paper, stuffing it in his breastplate---the letter clearly important and acting as though it never happened. "Sugar cookies? I remember a good recipie, if you'll trust it, that is." He mused simply, hearing the barks of a commander outside the wall drilling squires, glad he got out of that job with the opprotunity to be with Jade instead of staying out in the blazing sun all day and waiting on idiot newbies who don't even know how to hold a sword right to find their brain cells and put them to use.

Jade clapped, nodding. "Yes!" She cheered, starting for the pantry. She had notice his reaction to the letter, but she didn't prod. She spoke to Nima for a second before walking to Rebecca. She and Jade caught up on how the past year had been while Gail collected the ingredients. "I'm going to go help him." She jabbed her thumb in the direction he was before hurrying over. Rebecca gave Jade a knowing look. Jade came up beside Gail. "I wanna hold the sprinkles." She plucked the container from his arms and opened the top, letting a couple fall into her palm. She dropped them in her mouth. Suddenly her eyes lit up. "These are so good." She hummed.

He chuckled at her reaction, honestly a bit shocked as he started mixing everything in the bowl. "Uh. . . have you. . . not had those before?" Gale asked, somewhat confused, smiling a smidge at how she had reacted, how her eyes lit up, the way she seemed when----woah, okay yeah, maybe he was a little bit crazy over her. -Don't think that, you're going to get attatched and then she'll get shipped off to be a brood to some snooty prince and you'll never see her again, besides, you can't fall for somebody like her, you have to find somebody who will provide for you're situation. You're not royal, you're simply just a commander on the Royal Guard.- The man glanced down at the pin on his arm. -See that? That's the only thing that even gives you any purpose here, what are you even doing, baking cookies? You're supposed to be protecting her, making sure everything is safe, not. . . this. Whatever 'this' even is.- Gale offered the spoon to her. "Here, you mix it."
