"Sir, that is quite unsanitary..." The doctor said, pulling Kayla's dress up enough to reveal the ugly scar. "And leaves terrible looking marks..." Kayla was in too much pain to be hurt but she did glare at the doctor for his comment. One of the nurses swatted at the doctor. "Out with you and your foolish nonsense!" She snapped, pushing the man out the door and talking Kayla through everything. "Gale, I'm scared..." She said, her voice turning into a scream as she began pushing. "You're doing amazing, majesty, keep pushing. Very good, I can see him now." The nurse coaxed. Kayla's hand gripped Gale's with the greatest force imagineable as she screamed in pain, tears streaming down her face and her skin slick with sweat. Eventually, newborn cries filled the room and Kayla's ears rang with the sound. "Give...him...here..." She requested, the newborn baby being handed to the queen. Her face was still contorted in pain but she managed a small smile. "Perfect. Malakai is...perfect..." She breathed, wincing and looking at Gale

I got out of the way, sort've just staring in shock as the whole thing happened. "Um...Kay y'know, i've always known you were tough but that just....proved it way more." I chuckled, walking back up. "I'm so proud of you," I murmured, tears welling in my eyes as I looked down at my son. Alive. Perfect in every damned way.

She winced as the nurses finished cleaning her up and went to get a more comfortable outfit for her. Kayla looked to Gale and her son, smiling tiredly and weakly. "Isn't he perfect?" She breathed

"In every way," I murmured, rubbing at my eyes. "Saints above, I don't know if I want to laugh or start sobbing."

"Gale, I love you" She said softly, eyes blinking shut slowly from exhaustion

"I love you too," I murmured, pecking her cheek as I questioned her. "Do you want me to take him so you can rest?"

She nodded weakly. "Please" She breathed, blood still around her and sweat still covering her skin but she had a soft smile on her face

I gently took Malakai, my large hands pulling the baby close to me, a single tear slipping down my cheek. I didn't bother wiping it.

Malakai grinned and reached toward his father's face, his little legs kicking around and his fingers making a fist and undoing over and over. Kayla slept
